Abstract [en]
Social exclusion is a major social issue for minority people in society. In Sweden, immigrant sex workers are victims of social exclusion due to their minority status and their type of job. These people are excluded from access to health services and job opportunities. The lifestyle of these vulnerable people subjects them to social challenges such as poor health, lack of income, poor housing, sexual harassment, and drug and substance abuse. A remedy for these social issues is access to social services. Social workers primarily use feminist social work because the social exclusion of immigrant sex workers mostly targets female sex workers. This research investigated feminist social work interventions to address the challenges of social exclusion among sex workers. The choice of respondents for this research was based on social work experience working with immigrant sex workers. The research used a thematic data analysis method by analyzing the data based on the research questions and the research themes. Feminist social work interventions focus on enhancing access to health services, especially gynecology services. These interventions also enhance access to justice due to harassment and discrimination. The intervention also focuses on guidance and counseling to influence behavioral change. The services also enhance treatment and therapy for drug and substance abuse victims. The interventions also focus on empowerment by encouraging women to look for alternative job opportunities. Although immigrant sex workers are victims of social exclusion, feminist social work interventions provide them with access to quality health services, justice, and better living standards.
