Abstract [en]

Background: To become a nurse in Sweden, a three- year basic education in required, which leads to a nursing degree. Being a newly graduated nurse means a big change with a lot of challenges. Nursing is the nurse prime area of responsibility where each individual shall be cared for based on a person-centered approach. Emergency care is a part of the healthcare system where nurses work with acute conditions due to accidents, injuries or illness. Aim: To describe the experience of being a newly graduated nurse in emergency healthcare. Method: The study is a descriptive literature review where ten qualitative studies were included. Results: Four themes and three subthemes were identified. The themes were ''Newly graduated nurses’’, ‘’Experiences of feeling inadequate in the first time as a nurse'', ''The experience of being challenged in their professional role as a new graduate’’, ''Strategies for dealing with challenges in the professional role", " and "Experience professionals as a learning process". The sub-themes were "Lack of time", "Demands and expectations” and "impact on private life". Conclusion: The newly graduated nurses experienced both obstacles and possibilities during the first period in the profession, which they learned to manage in different ways. Development happens continuously and with time comes experience, which strengthen the nurses confident in their new role. Having knowledge about this may help students to prepare for their working life and give co-workers an understanding for the new graduate’s situation.

Bakgrund: För att bli sjuksköterska i Sverige krävs det en treårig grundutbildning, som leder till en sjuksköterskeexamen. Att vara nyexaminerad sjuksköterska innebär en stor omställning med många utmaningar. Omvårdnad är sjuksköterskans främsta ansvarsområde där varje individ ska vårdas utifrån ett personcentrerat förhållningssätt. Akutsjukvård är en del av sjukvården där sjuksköterskor arbetar med akuta tillstånd till följd av olycksfall, skador eller sjukdom. Syfte: Att beskriva upplevelsen av att vara nyexaminerad sjuksköterska och arbeta inom akutsjukvård. Metod: Studien är en deskriptiv litteraturstudie där tio kvalitativa artiklar inkluderats. Huvudresultat: Fyra teman och tre underteman identifierades. Teman var ‘’Nyexaminerade sjuksköterskors upplevelser av att känna sig otillräcklig första tiden som sjuksköterska’’,‘’Upplevelsen av att utmanas i sin yrkesroll som nyexaminerad”, “Strategier för att hantera utmaningar i yrkesrollen” och “Att uppleva professionen som en lärandeprocess”. Underteman var “Tidsbrist”, “Krav och förväntningar” och “påverkan på privatlivet”. Slutsats: De nyexaminerade sjuksköterskorna upplevde både hinder och möjligheter under första tiden i yrket som de lärde sig hantera på olika sätt. Utveckling sker fortlöpande och med tiden kommer erfarenheter, vilket stärkte sjuksköterskornas självförtroende i sin nya roll. Att ha kunskap om detta kan hjälpa studenter att förbereda sig inför arbetslivet och ge kollegor förståelse för de nyexaminerades situation. Nyckelord: Akutsjukvård, Nyexaminerade sjuksköterskor, Upplevelser.
