This patent was developed from predictions and innovations stemming from my long term theoretical work on transition metal carbides and nitrides, coming to an apex in publication VIII and experimentally verified in publication XV. It is arguably one of the earliest examples of a patented innovation based on the results of electronic structure calculations (2000).
