Abstract [en]

A 2 × 2 MIMO antenna based on meta-material is designed and analyzed for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The antenna is designed on 1.6 mm thick FR4 substrate having small dimensions of 40 mm × 40 mm. The leaf shape antenna structure with Full Ground (FG) is chosen which provides three wide bands from 0.1 GHz to 1.2 GHz, 1.2 GHz to 6.3 GHz and 6.5 GHz to 15.3 GHz. The composition of ground is varied from FG to Partial Ground (PG) to eventually PG with meta-material (PG with MM). The effect of PG with MM layer on the leaf structure shows that the return losses become smoother in nature with merging of first two bands into one, i.e., 0.1 GHz to 6.2 GHz. The structure designed provides good amount of isolation between four antenna elements. The compact size of antenna provides applications in portable UWB, X-band and Ku-band. © 2018 Electromagnetics Academy. All rights reserved.
