Based on the proposition that there is a paucity of gender perspectives in the field of health education interventions, it is argued that a gender analysis is fundamental to health promotion and health education planning and should be a part of all health planning and programming. The aim of this paper was to inquire to what extent gender aspects are considered in the development of interventions. For this study, published peer reviewed research papers describing interventions targeting prevention of pregnancy/HIV/STI, were selected from databases (see Wijk, 2002, this conference). Selected papers have been analyzed through a “gender reading” of the texts. Results describe the extent to which selected papers deal with gender in the development of theoretical premises and implementation strategies.
