Bakgrund: Cancer är ett samlingsnamn för olika typer av tumörer som kan växa och spridas till olika delar av kroppen. Patienter med cancer beskriver att det är av stort värde att ha en omsorgsfull relation till sjuksköterskan. Sjuksköterskan möter emotionella delar i arbetet som handlar om att skapa en mening mellan tankar och känslor som förekommer i arbetet med patienter med cancer.

Syfte: Syfte var att beskriva hur sjuksköterskor som arbetar med patienter med cancer upplever och hanterar de emotionella delarna av sitt arbete. Syftet var också att beskriva hur undersökningsgruppen såg ut i artiklarna som använts i litteraturstudien

Metod: Föreliggande studie var en litteraturstudie baserad på 11 inkluderade artiklar med både kvalitativ och kvantitativ ansats. Inkluderade artiklar hämtades från databaserna Cinahl och Pubmed  

Huvudresultat: Resultatet visade att sjuksköterskor upplevde många olika känslor i arbetet med patienter med cancer där ångest och frustration var de mest återkommande känslorna. Det framkom även i vilka sammanhang känslorna uppkom samt hur sjuksköterskorna senare hanterade dessa känslor som uppstod i arbetet. Det påvisades även i de inkluderade studierna att könsfördelningen och ålder på deltagarna var likvärdiga samt att arbetserfarenheten inom onkologisk vård hos deltagarna var generellt hög

Slutsats: En stor del av arbetet var emotionellt påfrestande för sjuksköterskorna där det framkommer att hanteringen av dessa delar var bristande. Det framkom även att det fanns ett stort behov av utbildning för att sjuksköterskorna skulle kunna hantera de emotionella delarna för att uppnå välmående och god hälsa i arbetet 

Background: Cancer is a collective name for different types of tumors that can grow and spread to different parts of the body. Patients with cancer describe the importance of having a caring relationship with the nurse. The nurse meet emotional parts of the work that involves creating an opinion between thoughts and emotions that occur in the work of cancer patients

Aim: The purpose was to describe how nurses working with cancer patients experience and handle the emotional parts of their work. The purpose was also to describe how the research group looked into the articles used in the literature study

Method: The present study was a literature study based on 11 included articles with both qualitative and quantitative approach. Included articles were collected from the databases Cinahl and Pubmed

Main results: The results showed that nurses experienced many different emotions in the work of patients with cancer where anxiety and frustration were the most frequent emotions. It also emerged in what contexts the emotions arose and how the nurses later handled these emotions that arose at work. It was also shown in the included studies that gender distribution and age of participants were equivalent and that the work experience in oncological care among the participants was generally high

Conclusion: A large part of the work was emotional stress for the nurses where it appears that the handling of these parts was lacking. It also emerged that there was a great need for education to enable nurses to handle the emotional parts to achieve well-being and good health at work
