Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Sjuksköterskans arbete var ofta stressigt och långtidssjukskrivningar bland sjuksköterskor kunde till stor del kopplas till stress. Långvarig stress kunde leda till utbrändhet och tecken på utbrändhet var vanligt förekommande bland sjuksköterskor och försämrade deras arbetsförmåga. Syftet med studien var att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av yrkesrelaterad stress som skulle kunna leda till utbrändhet. Metod: En beskrivande litteraturstudie där studier i databaserna MEDLINE via PubMed och CINAHL söktes med sökorden “Burnout, professional”, “Nurses”, “Experience”, “Qualitative studies”. 10 studier analyserades genom en förenklad tematisk analys. Huvudresultat: Sjuksköterskorna upplevde stress relaterat till påfrestande arbetsmiljö och emotionellt engagemang i vårdandet och dem beskrev positiva och destruktiva hanteringsstrategier. Motgångarnas omfattning och bristen på stöd var anmärkningsvärd hos sjuksköterskorna i studierna. Slutsats: Hög arbetsbelastning, bristfälligt stöd, stort ansvar och emotionellt engagemang i vårdandet framkom som erfarenheter av yrkesrelaterad stress som skulle kunna leda till utbrändhet. Hanteringsstrategierna var varierade och genom att ta del av sjuksköterskors erfarenheter skapades en förståelse för hur sjuksköterskor upplever yrkesrelaterad stress som skulle kunna leda till utbrändhet.

Abstract [en]

Background: Working as a nurse is often stressful and long term sick leave among nurses could often be connected to stress. Long term stress could lead to burnout and signs of burnout was common among nurses and impaired their work ability. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe nurses’ experiences of work related stress that could lead to burnout. Method: A descriptive literature review, where the databases MEDLINE via PubMed and CINAHL was explored with the search words “Burnout, professional”, “Nurses”, “Experience”, “Qualitative studies”. 10 studies were analysed through a simplified thematic analysis. Main results: The nurses experienced stress related to a strenuous work environment and emotional commitment in nursing and they described positive and destructive methods of coping. The extent of adversities and the lack of support was noteworthy for the nurses in the studies. Conclusion: High workload, lack of support, big responsibility and emotional commitment in nursing was revealed as experiences of work related stress that could lead to burnout. The coping methods varied and through the nurses experiences an understanding was created for how nurses experience work related stress that could lead to burnout.
