Background: Knowledge of nurses’ experiences of caring for children in somatic emergency care can be useful for nurses and other healthcare professionals to increase their understanding of the difficulties they may face. There is research on nurses’ experiences of caring for children in somatic emergency care, but there is no compilation of the latest research.  Aim: The purpose of the study was to describe nurses’ experiences of caring for children in somatic emergency care.  Method: A descriptive literature study containing ten articles that were searched in the CINAHL and PubMed databases. Findings: The result showed that nurses’ experiences of caring for children in somatic emergency care were; Caring for children created strong emotions; Parents have a significant role in the nursing situation; Caring for children places special demands on the nurse and there is a need to have coping strategies.  Conclusion: This study can provide nurses with knowledge and tools to more easily manage the care of children in emergency situations. By taking part in nurses’ experiences, we can share the reality they experience in their work role. This is to be taken most seriously as they felt there was need for improvement work on several levels.
