Abstract [en]

The consultant manager has been described as a complex profession with requirements from three directions (consultants, own managers and clients). The purpose of this study was to investigate whether consulting managers perceive their psychosocial work environment differently from a typical middle management role (which only has requirements from staff and their own managers). Furthermore, the purpose of this study was to see which dimensions in the psychosocial work environment had the greatest impact on middle managers' perceived health and well-being. Through a quantitative study, a multiple variance analysis and a multiple regression analysis were performed. Part of the digital version of Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire 2 (COPSOQ 2) was used as a measuring instrument. The questionnaire was sent by mail to 22 consulting managers and 25 middle managers. The data collection generated 40 questionnaires distributed among 20 of each professional group analyzed. The results showed no difference between the professional groups in perceived psychosocial work environment. The analysis of the multiple regression analysis showed that the dimension requirements in the work could largely explain the variance in perceived health.
