Registered nurses’ perspective on patient safety culture in the hospital: An empirical study

Background: Patient safety had always been a concern, and serious patient safety and health problems existed in hospitals all over the world, and China was no exception.
Nurses were the group that had the most contact with patients. They provided patients with basic care and treatment, and they played a vital role in the issue of patient safety.
By studying the views of nurses, practical suggestions could be put forward to ensure the safety of patients.
Aim: To investigate the patient safety culture among registered nurses.
Methods: A total of 100 nurses completed the questionnaire. Safety attitude questionnaire (SAQ) was used, and data was collected online. SPSS23.0 software was used for data analysis.
Result: In the two dimensions of teamwork climate and safety climate, the maximum score and the minimum score in the teamwork climate were 4.61 and 2.77. The maximum score and the minimum score in the safety climate were 4.44 and 3.39. And the average score of each dimension was 4.04 and 4.21. The perception of teamwork climate and safety climate were difference with the years of working, difference department and professional position.
Conclusion: Study showed that nurses thought the hospital had a better teamwork ability, a higher safety atmosphere, and a higher overall level.
