Abstract [en]

Using a life-centered packaging design approach in thecontext of packaging applications for consumer goods, thispaper presents a conceptual model for the concurrent developmentof packaging, product, logistics process, and supplychain (SC). The objective is to enhance the understandingof packaging logistics and logistics management in SCs andto identify current packaging logistics issues in the SC. Thefour-dimensional concurrent engineering (4DCE) framework, based on the alignment of and interaction between SC,logistics, packaging, and product, is used to increase overallSC efficiency. The model is applied and tested via threecase studies within different industries. The results indicateimproved understanding and knowledge-sharing betweenSC actors, with collaborative efforts leading to an increasedoverall SC performance.
