Abstract [en]
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions have a significant impact on the environment and human well-being, however, many people are unaware of how their daily choices contribute to climate change. Researchers are working towards developing more effective strategies to reduce emissions, but they face challenges due to limited access to comprehensive tools. While Carbon Footprint (CF)-based tools have been introduced in recent years, their efficiency is currently under scrutiny, with discussions on their potential use in "Greenwashing" being presented in the literature.
This research aims to emphasize the importance of utilizing appropriate CF tools for sustainable management. The objective is to evaluate CF tools through a comparative analysis focusing on accuracy, user experience, and information provision. To better understand their distinctions, an assessment framework has been introduced, utilizing a multi-parametric approach. This framework is established on a dual criteria foundation, covering both practical and academic aspects of the tools being assessed. The evaluation was conducted on a selection of 15 tools, chosen based on their popularity and influence. The results indicated that tools such as Svalna, WWF CF calculator, CarbonFootprint.com, and Carbon Savvy yield similar outcomes, while others like UN CF calculator exhibit significant deviations, potentially due to algorithm disparities. The study underscores challenges related to feasibility, resource availability, and user engagement. It proposes that user-friendly interfaces, provisions for disabilities, and a lack of emphasis on eco-friendly practices can impact user involvement.
To overcome any existing limitations and restrictions, forthcoming objectives entail the completion of criteria through a questionnaire, conducting a thorough evaluation, delving into deviations extensively, and examining the impact of IoT and AI tools.
