The importance of knowledge : A qualitative study on the contact between social workers and clients with NPF (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The importance of knowledge for social workers is consistently described in the previous research to enable participation in society for people with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). The purpose of this study was to investigate social workers' perceived knowledge about NDD and their experience of the importance of knowledge for contact with adultclients with NDD. The research method for the study was qualitative semi-structured interviews in which six informants participated. Based on the results, the themes of knowledge acquisition, adaptations and limitations were identified, which were analyzed based on knowledge theory and then discussed in relation to previous research. The results show that the social workers feel that knowledge is important in order to be able to individually adapt the contact. Furthermore, there was a variation regarding how they experienced their own knowledge, where some informants experienced sufficient knowledge while others expressed it as limited.
