Abstract [en]

In November 2022, OpenAI launched the AGI tool ChatGPT. Since its launch, ChatGPT has become a widely discussed topic in the news media, where its impact on several societal institutions has been debated. This thesis aims to conduct a critical discourse analysis of articles from two of Sweden's largest newspapers, Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter, to analyze how the reporting on ChatGPT has changed since the tool's launch. The analysis of the articles is based on an analytical framework created by Anabela Carvalho, which has formed a model for critical discourse analysis adapted for media. The study is carried out from an ideological critical perspective combined with Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional model for a communicative event: text - discursive practice and statement - social practice and action. The analysis demonstrates how the reporting has shifted from focusing on ChatGPT at a concrete level – how the tool functions – to later addressing its influence on all levels of society, where a conservative perspective towards new technology permeates the content. The results are then related to a socio-cultural discourse with a conservative perspective on new technology, which the discourses identified in the analysis are situated.

Abstract [sv]

I november 2022 lanserade OpenAI AGI-verktyget ChatGPT.
