Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to exam how autistic people can achieve a sustainable working life. The main question in the study were to examine what strengths in working life that can be identified for autistic people today. Furthermore, the study exams what kind of guidelines in working life autistic people can receive. It is also investigated what kind of support that is available for companies that employ autistic people. The study demonstrates that it is often the lack of adaptions in the work environment that is the primary cause of difficulties in work life for an individual diagnosed with autism.  By using a system-theoretical view and the Demand-Control model, the results of this study show that autistic people can be brilliant at their work, if the management can see the autistic way of being as something positive. The results of this study show the importance of an understanding working environment to assist the autistic person to get a sustainable working life.
