Syfte: Fotboll är en globalt dominerande sport som genom sitt samhällsbidrag spelar en viktig roll såväl ekonomiskt som kulturellt. Studien genomfördes i syfte att undersöka hur investeringar i spelartruppen påverkar sportsliga resultat inom svensk elitfotboll.

Metod: Studien nyttjar en kvantitativ metod där data från svenska elitfotbollsklubbar analyseras statistiskt genom korrelations- och regressionsanalyser. Populationen består av de klubbar som mellan 2010 och 2022 spelat i Allsvenskan, Sveriges högsta fotbollsdivision.

Resultat och slutsats: Resultaten indikerar ett positivt samband mellan investeringar i spelartruppen och sportsliga resultat, samtidigt som en hög riskexponering korrelerade med en sämre sportslig prestation. Dessa fynd belyser vikten av en effektiv resursanvändning och strategisk personalhantering för att maximera sportsliga framgångar och säkerställa en ekonomisk stabilitet.

Examensarbetets bidrag: Arbetet bidrar till litteraturen genom att tillhandahålla nya empiriska bevis som stärker tidigare forskning samtidigt som nya mätvärden för spelartruppens humankapital introduceras. Praktiskt förmedlar studien insikter till klubbar och dess beslutsfattare som kan vara till hjälp vid strategiskt- och ekonomiskt beslutsfattande.

Förslag till fortsatt forskning: Studien belyser behovet av ytterligare forskning för att utforska alternativa variabler för mätning av spelartruppernas humankapital.

Aim: Football is a globally dominant sport that plays a significant role both economically and culturally through its societal contribution. The study was conducted to examine how investments in the player squad affect sporting outcomes within Swedish elite football. 

Method: The study employs a quantitative method where data from Swedish elite football clubs are statistically analyzed through correlation and regression analysis. The population consists of the clubs that have competed in Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top football division, between 2010 and 2022. 

Results and conclusions: The results indicate a positive relationship between investments in the player squad and sporting outcomes, while high risk exposure correlated with poorer sporting performance. These findings highlight the importance of efficient resource allocation and strategic personnel management to maximize sporting successes and ensure economic stability. 

Contribution of the thesis: The work contributes to the literature by providing new empirical evidence that reinforces previous research while introducing new metrics for the human capital of the player squad. Practically, the study conveys insights to clubs and their decision-makers that can aid in strategic and financial decision-making. 

Suggestions for further research: The study highlights the need for further research to explore alternative variables for measuring the human capital of player squads.
