Abstract [en]

This thesis explores the feasibility of reintroducing tramway lines in Malmö, Sweden, as asustainable transport solution to a rapidly growing population. The study employs a Multi-CriteriaDecision Analysis (MCDA) methodology, integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS)tools, to evaluate potential tramway routes between Malmö central station and the Lindängen andStenkällan neighborhoods. Drawing from a comprehensive literature review, the researchestablishes a structured decision-making framework utilizing the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) to define criteria and assign relative weights. Ten criteria are identified, including, forexample, accessibility, conservation, and integration. Utilizing spatial data from various sources,suitability maps are generated to delineate optimal tramline routes, considering factors such aspopulation density, land use patterns, and proximity to key public facilities. A sensitivity analysisis conducted to assess the robustness of the evaluation results, while a least-cost path analysisevaluates the optimal paths within Malmö’s road network. The study contributes valuable insightsinto tramway route selection methodologies, demonstrating the efficacy of MCDA in supportingsustainable urban transportation planning. The findings provide a roadmap for policymakers andurban planners seeking to enhance public transport infrastructure and promote environmentalsustainability in urban areas like Malmö.

Denna avhandling undersöker möjligheten att återinföra spårvagnslinjer i Malmö, Sverige, som en hållbar transportlösning för en snabbt växande befolkning. Studienanvänder en Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) metodik, integrerad medGeografiska Informationssystem (GIS) verktyg, för att utvärdera potentiellaspårvägslinjer mellan Malmö centralstation och stadsdelarna Lindängen och Stenkällan.Utifrån en litteraturgenomgång etablerar forskningen ett strukturerat ramverk somanvänder den analytiska hierarkiprocessen (AHP) för att definiera kriterier och tilldeladess relativa vikter. Totalt tio kriterier identifieras, inklusive till exempel tillgänglighet,bevarande och integration. Med hjälp av rumsliga data från olika källor genereraslämplighetskartor för att avgränsa optimala spårvägar, med hänsyn till faktorer sombefolkningstäthet, markanvändningsmönster och närhet till viktiga offentligaanläggningar. En känslighetsanalys görs för att bedöma robustheten iutvärderingsresultaten, medan en minsta kostnadsvägsanalys utvärderar de optimalavägarna inom Malmös vägnät. Studien bidrar med värdefulla insikter om metoder för valav spårvägsvägar, vilket visar hur effektiv MCDA-metoden är för att stödja hållbarstadstransportplanering. Resultatet ger en färdplan för beslutsfattare och stadsplaneraresom vill förbättra kollektivtrafikens infrastruktur och främja miljömässig hållbarhet istadsområden som Malmö.
