Correlation between the amount of money for recreation and pleasures, and risk behavior regarding alcohol and drugs among young people in Gävleborg. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there was any correlation between how much money young people had for recreation/pleasures and their risk behavior regarding alcohol and drugs, and to see if there was no gender difference in any correlation. A quantitative method was used where units with different risk behaviors were compared based on how much money young people had for recreation and pleasures. Confidence intervals were calculated for the units to assess whether any differences between the groups was statistically significant. The material used was a complete survey of Gävleborgs county among high school students in years two 2010th The result of the survey showed that the adolescents who had a relatively large amount of money for recreation and pleasures (1000 – 1499 SEK and 1500 SEK or more) were the young people which are most likely to be alcohol consumers, high consumers, intensive consumers of alcohol and those who largely had used drugs. The conclusion of this study showed that there was a correlation between money and risk consumption of alcohol and drugs among young people, and a gender difference. Those who had more money for recreation and pleasures were those who consumed more than those with less money. The study showed that the boys with the highest proportion in each group (alcohol, high and intense consumer) had a lot of money for recreation and pleasures, among 1500 SEK or more. While the girls with the highest proportion in each group had a relatively large amount of money, among 1000 - 1499 SEK.
