The purpose of this Bachelor degree project is to design different types of services that can increase the amount of re-used timber within the building sector and by that means improve their environmental efforts. By examining how the sectors environmental work concerning recycling and re-using timber as a building material is getting on at present, conclusions have been drawn about what further could be done for improvement.

The project has shown that there is a scarcity of information and statistics within the sector, but that there are efforts in progress to change this. Questionnaires have been sent to a number of companies working with demolition and utilizing re-usable materials in order to find out what kind of problems there are within the trade. Unfortunately the survey gave insufficient result due to the low reply frequency.

It is obvious that active environmental work within the building sector is important and the knowledge acquired while working with the project has led to the design of three suggestions for services regarded as being of interest for improving the negative environmental impact caused by the sector:

Suggestion 1 – Sale of construction parts prior to the demolition of a building

Suggestion 2 – Re-utilization circulation when manufacturing buildings

Suggestion 3 – Education in relation to the purchase of houses  

The positive and negative qualities of the suggestions have been examined with SWOT-analysis and further adaptions and the results have been interpreted. The comparison has been based on the customer´s, the manufacturer´s and the seller´s and society´s point of view.  However the suggestions have not been put to the test in practice. All three service suggestions have proven interesting for further projects. Help and knowledge from different companies and persons involved in the sector who are affected by the drafted suggestions is necessary. As a consequence of the bounds of this project this has not been possible yet.

This project demonstrates three suggestions which could contribute to a reduction of the negative environmental impact caused by the building sector. Hopefully this project will lead to at least one of the suggestions having an impact in the near future.

Detta examensarbete syftar till att ta fram förslag på tjänster som kan öka byggsektorns återanvändning av trä och därigenom förbättra dess miljöarbete. Genom att undersöka hur sektorns miljöarbete med återvinning och återbruk ser ut idag har slutsatser om vad som ytterligare skulle kunna göras för att förbättra den dragits.

Arbetet har visat att det råder brist på information och statistik inom sektorn men att ett arbete för att ändra på detta pågår. Enkätundersökningar har skickats ut till företag som arbetar med rivning och tillvaratagande av återbruksmaterial för att ta reda på vilka problem som råder inom branschen. Resultatet av enkäterna gav tyvärr ett bristfälligt resultat då svarsfrekvensen var låg.  

Det är tydligt att ett aktivt miljöarbete inom sektorn är viktigt och genom den kunskap som förvärvats har tre tjänsteförslag utformats som anses vara aktuella för att förbättra sektorns negativa miljöpåverkan:

Förslag 1 - Försäljning av byggdelar redan innan byggnaden rivs

Förslag 2 - Återbrukskretslopp vid tillverkning av byggnad

Förslag 3 - Utbildning i samband med köp av hus

Förslagens positiva och negativa egenskaper har genom SWOT-analys och vidare bearbetning jämförts och resultaten har tolkats. Jämförelsen har baserats på kundens, tillverkarens och säljarens samt samhällets utgångspunkt. Dock har förslagen inte prövats i praktiken. Tjänsteförslagen har visat sig vara intressanta för ytterligare arbete som behöver utföras med hjälp av kunskap från de aktörer inom sektorn som berörs av de formulerade förslagen. Inom ramarna för detta arbete har inte detta kunnat utföras.

Detta arbete påvisar tre förslag som skulle kunna bidra till att minska den negativa miljöpåverkan som sker inom sektorn. Förhoppningsvis kommer detta leda till att något av förslagen får genomslag framöver.
