Abstract [sv]

Abstract

Aim: To describe the relationship between physical activity and quality of life in women who have or have had breast cancer. Methods: Descriptive literature study in which the included articles were searched in the databases Medline and Cinahl. The search resulted in 13 articles, published between the years 2001-2010. Results: Positive correlation between physical activity and quality of life was seen in women who have or have had breast cancer. The positive relationship between physical activity and quality of life is seen mainly when the physical activity intensity is moderate to intense and are performed  about three times a week, for at least 90 minutes per week. The positive effect was measured in short term and over time. It turned out that low physical activity or no physical activity at all is leading to reduced quality of life. No difference in perceived quality of life after physical activity could be seen between those who have or have had breast cancer. Conclusion: Physical activity has a positive correlation with improved quality of life in women who have or have had breast cancer, both in short term and over time. The relationship could be seen most cleraly when the activity level is moderate to intense.
