Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose with this study was to create understanding why women stay in destructive relations. To succeed with this a qualitative method was chosen to execute the examination. Interviews were carried through with three women as well as with staff from the women´s crisis center and the police, then the text was analyzed and the result was shown. The result showed that women go through a process where they through adaptation gradually lose themselves. This is done by power and control from the men. The result shows that there is an evident pattern in the women´s experiences that can be referred to Lundgren´s (2004) Normaliseringsprocess (Normalizing process). An important conclusion appeared to be that it depends where in the process the woman is at the moment that determine if she manage to abandon the man. If the woman has not come to that turning-point but has got help from relatives or professionals to abandon the man there is a risk that she might return to the relation. Another conclusion showed that the turning-point is individual for every single woman.
