Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper was to investigate how a number of victims and offenders considered their participation in a mediation meeting, and how mediation has affected them. To fulfill the purpose we chose to use a phenomenological approach as well as a qualitative research in the form of seven semi- structured interviews in order to understand respondents´ life-world. The results of our interviews to a great extent agree with the earlier research. The conclusion we could come up with was that the parties experienced mediation meeting as positive and that they felt that mediation was a good method. Their involvement appeared to affect them in different ways, where the opportunity for enlightenment, help to move forward and crime preventive effects of mediation were perceived as common consequences. Using our theoretical framework we could also see that roles, identity and power were aspects that were clearly exposed during the mediation meeting
