Express yourself: Implementerar skolan de nationella styrdokumentens kunskapskrav på elevens verbala språkutveckling?

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to explore specific pedagogical activities that benefit the student's verbal language development and to learn more about how our schools use teaching methods to achieve the ambitions in the governing documents in Sweden. The aim is finding the correlation between theory, research, governing documents and the educational work in our schools. This study contains an empirical survey in intention to see how teachers, pupils and school administrators experience school activities, to see if those activities are formed with the intention for pupils to reach the learning goals according to the governing documents.

The aim of this study has been achieved by relating empirical data with theories and previous research on conversation analysis. Goffman's and Norrby's research on the importance of dialogue and previous research on dialogicity studied by Dysthe, Vygotsky and Bakhtin are presented. Those are related to empirical data and show that most teachers realize the importance of integrating dialogues in daily activities and in different learning contexts. However, the intentions of learning exercises are not sufficiently visible so that pupils understand and find the sense in the verbal communicative trainings.

This study shows that schools in Sweden need to increase their efforts so our students can achieve better results in order to improve their abilities in verbal interaction, that according to The Swedish Governing Documents.

Abstract [sv]

Syftet med studien är att undersöka konkreta pedagogiska handlingar som gynnar elevernas verbala språkutveckling och att veta mer om hur våra skolor anpassar undervisningen till det beskrivna uppdraget i vårt nationella styrdokument, läroplanen. Ambitionen är att synliggöra sambandet mellan teori, forskning, styrdokument och undervisning. Denna studie innehåller en empirisk undersökning med avsikt att utreda hur lärare, elever och skolledare upplever huruvida skolorna arbetar enligt de nationella styrdokumentens intentioner.

 

Studiens syfte har uppnåtts genom en sammankoppling av empiriskt material med teorier och tidigare forskning gällande samtalsanalys. Goffmans och Norrbys forskning om dialogens betydelse presenteras och tidigare forskning om dialogicitet studeras genom Dysthe, Vygotskij och Bakhtin. Dessa kopplas till empirisk data och visar att de flesta respondenter på lärarsidan inser vikten av medvetna åtgärder i kommunikativa undervisningssammanhang och arbetar på att förverkliga dessa i olika inlärningskontexter. Emellertid görs inte skolaktiviteternas intentioner tillräckligt synliga så att eleverna förstår och känner igen sig i skolans verbala kommunikativa övningar.

 

Föreliggande studie visar att skolorna i Sverige behöver öka sina ansträngningar så att eleverna kan uppnå bättre resultat i att utveckla sina färdigheter i verbal interaktion, detta i enlighet med de nationella styrdokumenten.
