Sammanfattning

Med tiden kan äldre personer få svårt att utföra vardagliga sysslor och kan då behöva ansöka om plats på ett äldreboende. Tidpunkten då äldre individen inser att denne inte orkar lika mycket som förut, kan det vara svårt att fortsätta vara motiverad till vardagliga aktiviteter. Att då vara motiverad till fysisk aktivitet kan vara ännu svårare för äldre personer. Studiens syfte var att undersöka vilka uppfattningar personalen hade om äldre personers motivationsfaktorer till fysisk aktivitet. Undersökningens data baserades på personalens uppfattningar om fenomenet. Studien har genomförts med hjälp av en kvalitativ ansats, där det är fem stycken som arbetar på ett äldreboende intervjuats. Resultatet visade att majoriteten av äldre personer kan motiveras av gruppaktiviteter och sociala aktiviteter. Personalen och anhörigas engagemang och uppmuntran en avgörande roll för de äldres motivation. De aktiviteter som erbjuds regelbundet på de äldreboendena där studien utfördes var sittgympa och promenader. Dans erbjöds också vid vissa tillfällen. De faktorer som inverkar negativt på äldre personers motivation är väderförhållandena, personalens tidschema och personalbrist samt sjukdom och orken att utföra något som är fysiskt ansträngande

Abstract

With time older people can find it difficult to perform everyday tasks, whereas they can apply for a place at the retirement home to be taken care of. The moment when older individual realizes that they do not have the same strength as before it can be hard to keep the motivation up to perform daily tasks. This limitation makes it even harder for elderly to be motivated to perform physical activity, even though physical activity is crucial for them. The purpose of this study is to investigate the retirement home staffs point of view when it comes to what motivates older people to perform physical activity. The survey data it based on the staffs perception regarding this question. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach where five persons that work at the retirement home were interviewed. The result showed that the majority of older people can be motivated to perform physical activity by being offered group activities and social activities. The involvement and encouragement from staff and relatives also played a crucial part. Physical exercise that was offered at a regular basis at the retirement home where the study took place was activities performed sitting down and promenades. Dance was also offered from time to time. Factors that the staff has noticed that can have a negative impact on older people’s motivation to perform physical activity are weather conditions, lack of time for the employees to help the older people, staff shortages, diseases and not being able to perform something physically strenuous.
