Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine how early childhood educators approach the issue around gender equality in the educational work with children. A web-based survey was carried out in a simple way, try to get as many respondents as possible. The sample for the study consisted of preschools in Gävle, however, knowledge about the number of participating preschools unknown. 70 respondents participated in the survey, of which two were men. The result shows that preschool teachers at  preschools in Gävle is aware that it is implemented gender equality on the effective preschool and a proportion mean that they themselves are involved in contributing to the work. More than half of respondents believe that there is a need for more male preschool teachers, and that traditional toys are replaced with gender-neutral creative building material. Other materials, such as books that challenge gender patterns are used in daily work. The respondents say that they treat the children, from the individual's perspective, however, described the work with the children to identify themselves as male or female. Based on the results concluded that preschool teachers meet the objective in theory but in practice, in connection with the service based on individual perspective clashes with help kids to identify themselves as male or female when it unconsciously takes a steering toward that boys should show more emotion as girls are said to do and that girls should be brave and tough.
