Scientific Report Project title: «Human resources in poverty and disability: family perspective (Moldova and Ukraine)»: Popular description of the project
2016 (English)Report (Other academic)
The main aim of the research was to describe the “poverty” in families of children/adolescents with developmental disabilities in the perspective of different human resources and cross cultural experiences. The intention of the project included development of a common methodological way of scientific thinking regarding understanding a human phenomenon like poverty; to raise the research level of the participants of the project and to initiate the creation of a research model; to facilitate the awareness of the “poverty” phenomenon as a phenomenon of the life world, a phenomenon of human experience and human resources; to found an international network for developing further research studies in the fields of disability, poverty and family.
The main research question of the project was combined out of several perspectives: to understand socio-cultural [ideological] traditions in terms of “human recourses and poverty” in societies with “transition” economies regarding the phenomenon of “poverty and disability in families, upbringing children/ adolescents with developmental disabilities” [Ukraine and Moldova] and to enrich that phenomenon by describing how these families are experiencing “poverty” in their everyday life world.
The changes, which have been made since the application, were not significant. The project followed the proposed aims and research questions. Since the researchers of the project were representing the subject area of special education (scientifically and institutionally rotted in Defectology), critical reflection on special education as a practice of “reproducing a poverty circle” and assisting “unfreedoms in poverty and disability” became one of the strongest line of the analysis of the undertaking research. Families, upbrining children/adolescents with developmental disabilities in different socio-economical contexts, including a context of “extreme poverty” were reached.
