    Abstract [en]

    Fossil fuels and non-renewable resources are being replaced with, as modern day society has coined the term, green energy. This movement towards green energy creates a demand for renewable energy resources, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This study used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in conjunction with Remote Sensing (RS) practices and two weighting systems the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Rank-Order methods for PV site selection. Six multi-criteria models were developed using spatial factors and constraining images to locate potential photovoltaic power plant sites for three settings of fixed axis PV arrays. This analysis was performed at a macro regional scale and further analysis is encouraged for micro site selection.

    Abstract [en]

    With the implementation of the Bologna declaration, European and other universities must change or adjust courses and programmes so they fit into the Bologna model. In Sweden this will take place during 2007. The intention with the declaration, for example, is that a basic course in one subject at one university should be treated as equivalent to the same type of course at another university. Once a year, the recently formed section for education of the Swedish Cartographic Society gathers university lecturers and others for an education conference to discuss matters concerning higher education in geomatics, geoinformatics, geography, etc. Last year’s conference identified the need for a harmonized course curriculum in basic GIS. One of the advantages of such a course is easier transfer of study records for inclusion of course credits in study programmes at other universities. Therefore, an attempt has been made to write a harmonized course curriculum for basic GIS. The course will contain about 50% common content and about 50% of content decided by the individual university. The common content will be described as learning outcomes, and then it is up to the universities to place the learning outcomes into a context. Thanks to this common core, the course can be given for such diverse programmes as archaeology, land surveying, or economy, and still be able to include the required knowledge for students to continue on more advanced courses at other universities.

    Abstract [en]

    The demand for easily available geographic information is increasing in society. Moreover, knowledge of spatial data infrastructures (SDIs) has increased in many European governmental agencies, in large part because of the implementation of the INSPIRE directive. Many countries, thus, recognise the need to provide more detailed geographic information as network services at the national level. One means of realising this goal is to create INSPIRE extensions, i.e., to extend the INSPIRE data specifications with more detailed and specific national information. This paper describes a study where a complex INSPIRE extension has been created to describe the national need of hydrography information in Sweden, based on the Swedish water system standard (SWSS). The study includes the creation of a UML application schema that extends the INSPIRE Hydrography (HY) theme, the transform from UML to an XSD schema, the creation of GML files, and finally, testing and evaluating the approach of using INSPIRE extensions. When evaluating the results, the consequences of replacing existing dataset/download services with one extended INSPIRE HY dataset/download service are evaluated from the perspectives of both users and data providers. The evaluation is carried out as quantitative tests of the resulting GML files, in a user-centric test where a user tests the applicability of the GML files in hydrological analyses, and by telephone interviews with personnel from Lantmäteriet, the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority. Beside these evaluations, the possible effects on the information modelling process when creating an INSPIRE extension are also examined. The study shows that it is possible to create complex INSPIRE extensions that include many object types, attributes and relations. From a user perspective, extended INSPIRE HY files do not differ substantially from SWSS files, and can be used in hydrological analyses. Data providers can relatively simply replace their current download services with one for the extended INSPIRE HY, but the specific economic consequences for this could not be drawn. It could be expected, though, that there can be both economic, administrative and maintenance advantages if today’s separate INSPIRE and national download services are replaced with services exposing datasets based on an extended INSPIRE data model for all adequate themes.

    GävleTidningar AB är en del av Mittmedia, en av Sveriges

    största tidningskoncerner. Företaget kommer under 2007 att

    uppgradera sitt webbpubliceringssystem och behöver därmed se

    över de befintliga systemen inför migreringen till det nya.

    Målet med den här utredningen är att dokumentera de system

    som tillhandahåller uppgifter om privatkunder och se om det i

    sin tur kan leda till förslag på ökad integration systemen

    emellan. Ett exempel på vad ökad integration kan innebära är att

    man skapar en så pass användarvänlig webbplats för kunderna så

    att de inte behöver använda sig av flera olika

    inloggningsuppgifter för att ändra sin information. Utredningen

    har gjorts i samarbete med flertalet aktörer i företagets närhet,

    både interna och externa. Resultatet av utredningen blev en

    presentation av de olika systemen med datamodeller,

    beskrivningar och en användningssfallsspecifikation så att

    företaget enklare kan beskriva nuläget för kravställarna.

    Detta examensarbete var en del i ett större projekt på ProElec AB i Söderhamn. Företaget ville ta fram en ny produkt i form av en displayenhet som ska kunna kommunicera med ett annat system via en operatör och ett CAN-protokoll. Användargränssnittet (GUI) i produkten understödjer växelverkan mellan en operatör och exempelvis ett hydrauliskt system på en grävskopa. Syftet med detta arbete var därför att hitta en bra metod som kan användas för att utveckla ett applikationsinterface (API) som sedan används för att implementera detta GUI på displayenheten. Enheten består av en mikrodator och en LCD-skärm och är ett system som har begränsat med minne och resurser. Därför så fanns det krav på att applikationen som använder detta API får snabba svarstider och bra prestanda, men även att den blir användarvänlig. För att kontrollera om resultatet blev bra så gjordes också en test för att se om alla krav uppfylldes. Här visade testet att resultatet blev väldigt bra och att inga kvarstående problem fanns kvar att rätta till i det API som togs fram för displayenheten.

    Relying on random and purposive moving agents, we simulated human movement in large street networks. We found that aggregate flow, assigned to individual streets, is mainly shaped by the underlying street structure, and that human moving behavior (either random or purposive) has little effect on the aggregate flow. This finding implies that given a street network, the movement patterns generated by purposive walkers (mostly human beings) and by random walkers are the same. Based on the simulation and correlation analysis, we further found that the closeness centrality is not a good indicator for human movement, in contrast to a long-standing view held by space syntax researchers. Instead we suggest that Google's PageRank and its modified version (weighted PageRank), betweenness and degree centralities are all better indicators for predicting aggregate flow.

    En av de svåraste utmaningarna som ett företag står inför är jämvikten mellan användbarhet och säkerhet, så att ingen av dessa väger över och på så vis påverkar organisationen negativt. Utifrån intervjuer med anställda har användbarheten undersökts, även samtal med ansvariga inom IT-säkerhet har givit förståelse för företagets arbete inom området. I det undersökta företaget kan man se att stor tyngd läggs på säkerheten, vilket kan påverkar användbarheten för användarna. Eftersom det i nuläget saknas en utredning och ett riktigt beslutsunderlag av vilka användare som skall ha vilka behörigheter på sina datorer, ges i slutet av arbetet rekommendationer till företaget gällande användartypernas fördelning utifrån säkerhetsperspektiv och ur användarnas egen användbarhetsuppfattning.

    Abstract [en]

    A Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) is required to make the spatial data be fully used and well shared by the society. In China, SDI’s has also been established progressively. A thorough understanding of the potentials and shortcomings about SDI in China has a positive significance to clearly identify the future direction and actions.In order to find out the potentials and shortcomings of SDI in China, the current situation of SDI and SDI in China have been assessed through literature review and interview. Then a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis has been developed. Based on the current experiences of SDI development in China, the thesis concludes that China have a good potential to develop its SDI function. It also points out that there still are some weaknesses needed to be surmounted, such as: lacking advanced technology, data duplication, and lack of skilled workforce. There is a big room and capability to improve the development of Chinese SDI well in the future.

    Software reliability growth modeling plays an important role in software reliability evaluation. To incorporate more information and provide more accurate analysis, modeling software fault detection and correction processes has attracted widespread research attention recently. However, the assumption of the stochastic fault correction time delay brings more difficulties in modeling and estimating the parameters. In practice, other than the grouped fault data, software test records often include some more detailed information, such as the rough time when one fault is detected or corrected. Such semi-grouped dataset contains more information about fault removal processes than commonly used grouped dataset. Using the semi-grouped datasets can improve the accuracy of time delayed models. In this paper, a fault removal modelling framework for software reliability with semi-grouped data is studied and extended into multi-released software. Also, the corresponding parameter estimation is carried out with Maximum Likelihood estimation method. One test dataset with three releases from a practical software project is applied with the proposed framework, which shows satisfactory performance with the results.

    Abstract [en]

    In 1776, the City of Gävle was immersed in a blazing fire, almost the whole city burned down and buildings that managed to survived have either been demolished or replaced by another one. To provide an actual view of Gävle from 1800-century is difficult due to the three different fires. A three-dimensional visualization model presents the entire city between 1776-1815 as it might have appeared. Archival images and information was provided from Länsmusem Gävleborg, Fogden, City library of Gävle and the City Archive. The three-dimensional model of the entire city is presented in a QuickTime movie format for viewing.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this article is to investigate the personal motives for participation in formalstandardization processes for geographic information. The method involved interviewing membersof technical committees at the Swedish Standards Institute, SIS. The results are that the majority ofthe interviewees are very motivated in their work and they think their participation is well-financedby their organizations allocating them to a technical committee. The main motives are to contributeto development of society and be at the forefront of development. However, this article also showsthat several members participating in this study felt that they do not have sufficient time for workingwith tasks related to their technical committees. Their daily work in their respective organizationsoften has higher priority in relation to standardization work. This contrasts with the organizationalgoals of the participating organizations and may slow down the development of standards and otherpublications due to lack of resources.

    Ett community är en mötesplats på Internet där människor kan hålla kontakt, lära känna nya människor, diskutera osv. Det finns idag en mängd olika communities med många olika inriktningar. Communityn är idag mycket populära sidor på nätet och vissa har enormt mycket besökare och tjänar stora pengar. Det kan därför vara svårt att locka medlemmar om inte communityt innehåller nyheter som inte redan finns. Målet med det här arbetet har varit att skapa en tilltalande och användarvänlig design till ett community med ett sommar, fest och rese- tema. Delvis används en enkätundersökning för att ta reda på hur viktig det är med en design som sticker ut för att locka medlemmar. Resultatet av arbetet har blivit att en design med ett tema till sommar, fest och resor har skapats. Designen går i huvudsak i färgerna gul, blå och vit. Designen är till största del uppbyggd av CSS, ASP.NET och HTML.

    Arbetet syftar till att undersöka förutsättningarna för att skapa en virtualiserad utvecklingsmiljö för Windows som installeras och konfigureras utan manuell övervakning. Utvecklare på Sandvik Systems Development (SSD) arbetar ofta med olika utvecklingsverktyg eller använder sig av olika versioner av utvecklingsmiljöer och detta är ett problem. Det är också vanligt att utvecklarna blandar sina kontorsapplikationer med utvecklingsmiljön vilket kan vara en stor säkerhetsrisk. Ett annat stort problem är att tiden kan vara väldigt lång för inhyrda konsulter och nyanställda att få sina utvecklingsmiljöer installerade, vilket resulterar i stora kostnader för SSD. En möjlig lösning till problemen är att använda virtuella maskiner som utvecklingsmiljöer. Arbetet undersöker om det är möjligt att m.h.a. en applikation skapa, installera och konfigurera virtuella maskiner och utvecklingsmiljöer automatiskt. Målmiljön för de virtuella maskinerna är programvarorna WMware Workstation och Virtual PC. Arbetet förklarar även hur virtuella maskiner kan vara till hjälp vid mjukvaruutveckling. Detta arbete visar att det är möjligt att skapa en virtualiserad utvecklingsmiljö som med vissa restriktioner installeras och konfigureras automatiskt.

    A theory of many-sorted implicative conceptual systems (abbreviated msic-systems) is outlined. Examples of msic-systems include legal systems, normative systems, systems of rules and instructions, and systems expressing policies and various kinds of scientific theories. In computer science, msic-systems can be used in, for instance, legal information systems, decision support systems, and multi-agent systems. In this essay, msic-systems are approached from a logical and algebraic perspective aiming at clarifying their structure and developing effective methods for representing them. Of special interest are the most narrow links or joinings between different strata in a system, that is between subsystems of different sorts of concepts, and the intermediate concepts intervening between such strata. Special emphasis is put on normative systems, and the role that intermediate concepts play in such systems, with an eye on knowledge representation issues. In this essay, normative concepts are constructed out of descriptive concepts using operators based on the Kanger-Lindahl theory of normative positions. An abstract architecture for a norm-regulated multi-agent system is suggested, containing a scheme for how normative positions will restrict the set of actions that the agents are permitted to choose from.

    I förra upplagan av tillägget till Sveriges Kartläggning, 2008, redovisade Anders Brandt och Stig-Göran Mårtensson hur utbildningen inom ämnesområdet Kart- och mätningsteknik utvecklats. Kapitlet gav en sammanfattning av åren 1978-1997 samt enmer detaljerad beskrivning av tiden 1998-2007. Redan i 2008 års upplaga sågs stora förändringarinom ämnesområdet och därmed också inom utbildningen. Denna utvecklinghar fortsatt vilket bl.a. kan ses i de kapitel som ingår i denna upplaga som exemplifierar hur Sveriges kartläggning, eller tillämpande resultat av denna, sker inom en allt bredaresektor av samhället. Branschens breddning har därmed lett till en mer diversifierad uppfattning av vad som kan förknippas med kart- och mätningsteknik och vi kan idag konstatera att de traditionella kart- och mätningsområdena har fortsatt att utvecklas och nya områden har kommit till. Ett stort antal andra områden har de senaste 10 åren börjat att använda “kartor” och annan rumslig information i vid bemärkelse. Därför har vi valt att i årets upplaga använda titeln Utbildningsverksamhet inom geodataområdet. Fokus har flyttats från kart- och mätningsteknik till geodata. Geodata definieras enligt Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) som data som beskriver företeelser inklusive deras geografiskaläge. Kapitlet avser inte att ge detaljerade beskrivningar av utbildningar inom området, men att ge en översikt och diskussion om utbildningarna inom de senaste 10 åren.

    In decision analysis maximising the expected utility is an often used approach in choosing the optimal alternative. But when probabilities and utilities are vague or imprecise expected utility is fraught with complications. Studying second-order effects on decision analysis casts light on the importance of the structure of decision problems, pointing out some pitfalls in decision making and suggesting an easy to implement and easy to understand method of comparing decision alternatives. The topic of this thesis is such second-order effects of decision analysis, particularly with regards to expected utility and interval-bound probabilities. Explicit expressions for the second-order distributions inherent in interval-bound probabilities in general and likewise for distributions of expected utility for small decision problems are produced. By investigating these distributions the phenomenon of warping, that is concentration of belief, is studied.

    Adequate representation of imprecise probabilities is a crucial and non-trivial problem in decision analysis. Second-order probability distributions is the model for imprecise probabilitoes whose merits are discussed in this thesis.

    That imprecise probabilities may be represented by second-order probability distributions is well known but there has been little attention to specific distributions. Since different probability distributions have different properties, the study of the desired properties of models of imprecise probabilities with respect to second-order models require analysis of particular second-order distributions.

    An often held objection to second-order probabilities is the apparent arbitrarines in the choice of distribution. We find some evidence that the structure of second-order distributions is an important factor that prohibits arbitrary choice of distributions. In particular, the properties of two second-order distributions are investigated; the uniform joint distribution and a variant of the Dirichlet distribution that has the property of being the normalised product of its own marginal distributions.

    The joint uniform distribution is in this thesis shown to have marginal distributions that belie the supposed non-informativeness of a uniform distribution. On the other hand, the modified Dirichlet distribution  discovered here has its information content evenly divided among the joint and marginal distributions in that the total correlation of the variables is minimal.

    It is also argued in the thesis that discrete distributions, as opposed to the continuous distributions mentioned above, would have the advantage of providing a natural setting for updating of lower bounds, and computation of expected utility is made more efficient.

    Syftet med mitt examensarbete var att utveckla en hemsida till Kulas Ponnystuteri. Den skulle innehålla vissa informationstexter, nyheter, gästbok m.m. samt administrationsfunktioner.

    Hemsidan skulle vara lätt att använda och hitta önskad information på. Den vänder sig till mer eller mindre hästkunniga människor i alla åldrar, och skulle därför göras mycket besöksvänlig.

    En hemsida konstruerades utifrån de önskemål och krav som kunden hade. För själva kodningen användes HTML och ASP med Java Script och arbetet skedde i både Frontpage och Dreamweaver. Databasen fick bli en Access-databas.

    Resultatet blev en relativt enkel och tydlig hemsida, med prioritet lagd på användarvänlighet och de administrativa funktionerna. De funktioner och önskemål som kunden hade gick att infria utan större problem.

    Nowadays, reducing energy usage as well as reducing environmental impacts due to energy efficiency measurements is very common in the industrial sector. The objective of these measurements is to achieve better sustainable energy systems.

    Sandvik Materials Technology (SMT) AB, one of the business areas of the enterprise Sandvik AB, is not an exception in that field.

    The aim of this thesis project is to analyze how to use waste energy from the cooling of a steel plant for an internal district heating (DH) system within the industrial area of SMT AB located in Sandviken, Sweden. In order to reduce the energy use, the economic cost and the environmental impacts within the industrial area.

    In order to achieve the aim has been studied the heat pump devices as the system to transfer the waste heat from the cooling of the steel plant to the DH system. Therefore, after the introduction to the project (part 1: Introduction) and the explanation of the aim

    (part 2: Aim, methodology and delimitations), the basics of the heat pumps are studied and explained (part 3: Heat pumps theoretical study). After that, the knowledge acquired in part 3 is applied to define and calculate the heat pump system which fulfill the required

    objectives achieving the greatest energy, economical and environmental impacts reductions (part 4: Heat pump practical study).

    The achieved results show that there is a great opportunity to reduce the energy use within the industrial area (until 45300 MWh per year), the economical cost (until 2 millions euros per year) and the 2 CO emissions (until 2.3 millions of 2 CO kg per year1).

    Therefore, the conclusion is that it must be taken into account to build the heat pump system and also that the effort of finding possible energy efficiency measurements within the industrial sector must be one priority for all the industrial companies, not only because the possible potential economical reductions, but also because of the potential environmental impacts reductions.

    Building facade extraction is the primary step in the recognition process in outdoor scenes. It is also a challenging task since each building can be viewed from different angles or under different lighting conditions. In outdoor imagery, regions, such as sky, trees, pavement cause interference for a successful building facade recognition. In this paper we propose a knowledge based approach to automatically segment out the whole facade or major parts of the facade from outdoor scene. The found building regions are then subjected to recognition process. The system is composed of two modules: segmentation of building facades region module and facade recognition module. In the facade segmentation module, color processing and objects position coordinates are used. In the facade recognition module, Chamfer metrics are applied. In real time recognition scenario, the image with a building is first analyzed in order to extract the facade region, which is then compared to a database with feature descriptors in order to find a match. The results show that the recognition rate is dependent on a precision of building extraction part, which in turn, depends on a homogeneity of colors of facades.

    Recognition of buildings is not a trivial task, yet highly demanded in many applications including augmented reality for mobile phones. Recognition rate can be increased significantly if building façade extraction will take place prior to the recognitionprocess. It is also a challenging task since eachbuilding can be viewed from different angles or under differentlighting conditions. Natural situation outdoor is when buildings are occluded by trees, street signs and other objects. This interferes for successful building façade recognition. In this paper we evaluate the knowledge based approach  to automatically segment out the whole buildingfaçade or major parts of thefaçade. This automatic building detection algorithm is then evaluated against other segmentation methods such as SIFT and vanishing point approach. This work contains two main steps: segmentation of building façades region using two different approaches and evaluation of the methods using database of reference features. Building recognition model (BRM) includes evaluation step that uses Chamfer metrics. BMR is then compared to vanishing points segmentation. In the evaluation mode, comparison of these two different segmentation methods is done using the data from ZuBuD.Reference matching is also done using Scale Invariant Feature Transform. Theresults show that the recognition rate is satisfactory for the BMR model and there is no need to extract the whole building façade for the successful recognition.
