    Abstract [en]

The quality of a product is an important factorto establish and preserve a sustainable market- and business position in theglobal business environment. Measuring techniques and quality management has astrong correlation. To ensure the functionality of a product, there are needsto measure the product towards specific limitations. Mathematical modeling is away of visualizing a process capability, and its parameters. Sandvik Coromantin Gimo are producing different types of face milling cutters. The company hasa hypothesis about one of its carbide inserts, and its geometrical specificationlimits. The hypothesis is that different geometrical deviations affect themilling cuts edges in different ways, when it is applied and installed in themilling cutter body. The purpose is to develop a mathematical model, which canshow what changes affects the most, which will lead to less waste in theproduction process, by predicting the actual position of the cut in the millingcutter body. The method is based on relevant literature in the main areas ofmeasuring methods and its techniques and statistics. This theory, incombination with the method, is a profound base in the development of themathematical model, and analysis of the cuts. The geometrical deviations weremeasured by using three different measuring methods. This had to be done in orderto verify the mathematical model and its theoretical output, and then compareit to the actual measured data. The result of the study was the development ofa mathematical model, and the analysis of 4000 individual measurements. Theconclusion of the analysis is that certain geometrical deviations are affectingthe position of the milling cuts edges more than others. By using themathematical model, the simulation output will show a theoretical value of themilling cuts geometry, and make it possible to predict the milling cutsdimensional deviation. The mathematical model is validated, based on three mainfactors. These are Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility, statisticalevaluation, and the development of the mathematical model itself. There are manyparameters affecting the milling cuts geometry, and the mathematical modelshould not be used as the only source of verifying the cut, but rather as acomplementary tool that makes a qualified prediction.

Utredning Tärnsjö Garveri2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Tärnsjö tannery have under a longer time been planning to move some of the concrete pillars in

their building, at the same time the conditions to broaden an existing gateway and make a

building plan for a corroded roof is investigated. Current construction plans can´t be found and

    that severely complicates the work.

Moving the pillars will result in higher stress on the current beam and measures have to be taken

to retain the buildings stability. An iron beam or reinforcement with carbonfibre will manage the

stress. The gateway can easily be widened if an ironbeam is laid as reinforcement at the top of the

gate. And parts of the lower windows need to be cast shut. Because of the missing construction

plans the beam over the gate is projected to carry all of the loads in the wall, including the weight

of the joists. The reason why the ceiling in the warehouse has begun corroding depends to big part

on the tarpaper that should protect the ceiling from damp, it´s old and needs to be changed. The

ceiling has become an outdoor room which means increased tear on the current tarpaper. To solve

this problem the ceiling needs to be cleaned and the paper replaced.

Informationsrelaterade kvalitetsproblem för insatsvaror inom processindustrin: En fallstudie på Stora Enso Skutskärs Bruk2022Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Quality is a competitive factor in the process industry but at the same time one of the most critical problems when it is lacking. The process industry transforms raw materials into products, often through continuous and irreversible processes. This can lead to costly quality problems in the form of faulty end products, broken machines, environmentally hazardous emissions and, in the worst case, serious injuries to employees. The purpose of this study is to develop proposals to streamline the working method of arrival and storage for materials in the process industry to meet the quality requirements that exist.

The study has used the scientific approach of abduction to answer the research questions that have been defined. The purpose of the study has been fulfilled by conducting a case study at Stora Enso Skutskärs Bruk, where the handling of material on arrival and storage has been investigated. This has been done through interviews, observations, workshops and a literature study in the areas that are considered relevant to the work.

In order to meet the existing quality requirements, three inputs have been analyzed and formed the basis for the improvement proposals that have emerged. Furthermore, the study has contributed to theoretical contributions in the form of three critical quality factors. These are certificate of analysis (proof of quality test performed), control during unloading and control of stored input goods. The practical contributions that the study led to are that an ERP software should be used for information management, clear routines should be created for the activities that are done and that everything should be documented to cope with internal and external audits.

The critical quality factors as well as the proposals for a more efficient way of working that are given to Stora Enso Skutskärs Bruk can also be used by other organizations with similar conditions and quality requirements. These proposals should be implemented gradually and in consultation with the responsible departments in the organization. The improvement measures should also be tested and evaluated in further research. Further research on how the proposals have an impact on the environment, work environment and cost efficiency for example is recommended.

Iterative Strategy Analyze During Agile Development2012In: Weidianzixue yu jisuanji [Microelectronics & Computer], ISSN 1000-7180, Vol. 29, no 5, p. 165-169Article in journal (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper, We used characteristic of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) use case model in describing the function of the system' s and the iteration sequence of agile development process to obtain a new iteration sequence based on the risk an value of the various use cases in UML use case diagrams. An obvious advantage of doing so is to ensure high-risk and high-value use cases will be first developed, so that the use cases will be repeatedly tested in the next iteration, thereby increasing overall system reliability.

Förutsättningar för implementering av ISO 9001: En analys av krav och ERP-systemets roll i kvalitetsledningssystem2024Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Companies are facing high demands to constantly deliver products with high quality. A quality management system with an ISO 9001:2015 (ISO 9001) certification is generally thought to be beneficial for increasing the company's competitiveness. Since Quality management systems and Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP systems) have different focuses and functions to play, it is necessary to examine how they complement to each other to improve the company performance.

The purpose of this thesis work is to investigate if and how a SME (Small Medium Enterprises) with experience of an ERP system can effectively become ISO 9001 certified. The study has been carried out at a case company that has had many years’ experiences of an ERP system and has the intention to apply for an ISO9001 certification. The research started with an analysis and identification of obstacles and challenges that SMEs may face when the quality management system is implemented under the support of an ERP systems.

A literature review was first carried out to gain a greater insight into the various ISO 9001 requirements that are placed on the company to be certified. The literature review also provided a better understanding of what and how an ERP system can function in different contexts. With the literature review as a starting point, interviews and observations were taken to understand the current situation at the company and the functions of an ERP system. A certification model was created to guide the company to become ISO 9001 certified under the support of ERP. The proposed model can be applicable to other similar SMEs though the study is implemented at one case company. The important results of this study indicate that documentation, traceability and control are the main elements of an ERP system to support companies becoming ISO 9001 certified. However, there are also barriers and difficulties that ERP systems cannot fully support SMEs to become certified because their own planning and decisions are required during the certification process.

En arbetsmodell för intervallplanerat underhåll: Planering och kostnadsberäkning för underhållsarbete2021Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

SKF Coupling in Hofors manufactures screws and couplings to the energy sector and the marine industry. The products have tight tolerances to be more attractive at the market through the tolerances. With increased competition on the market, the quality requirements increase, which means that many products fail to meet the quality requirements in order to avoid customer complaints. The purpose of this work was to improve measurement accuracy.

To get an overview of the current situation, interviews and observations were made. A measurement system analysis was conducted by tests where a certain number of products were measured by a certain number of operators, with a certain number of repetitions. The test results were analyzed by a two-way ANOVA and Gauge R&R, which are common methods in measurement system analysis. A cause-and-effect diagram was used to investigate the causes of quality problems.

The results indicated that the existing measurement systems were not reliable enough. The shortcomings may depend on the measuring device and the operator. The measuring device may be defective or have calibration defects. Operators can have different methods when measuring which contributes to variations in the measurements.

The work led to suggestions for improvements that could imply higher accuracy in the measurement systems. For example, a tighter calibration interval of the measuring device would lead to reduced impact from the measuring device. A standardized education of measurement method, measurement environment and the importance of deviation management can also lead to improved measurement accuracy.

Web Software Reliability Analysis Based on NHPP Model2012In: Jisuanji Gongcheng [Computer Engineering], ISSN 1000-3428, Vol. 38, no 14, p. 26-28Article in journal (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This paper proposes a Web Software Reliability Growth Model(SRGM) with BurrX Testing Effort Function(TEF) based on Non-homogeneous Poisson Process(NHPP) and develops its application to Web software reliability analysis. The incorporated TEF depicts the relationship between Web workload and calendar time, and solves the problem about high uneven of Web workload. By using the workload data and failure data from Web logs. Experimental results show that the proposed model can be used to describe the actual failure process more faithfully than G-O model, which is often used to analyze Web software.

A DCA-based method for software prognostics and health management2012In: Proceedings of IEEE 2012 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference, PHM-2012, 2012, p. 6228830-Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In recent years, the prognostics and health management (PHM) technique has greatly been developed especially for electronic devices and systems. Little work, however, has been done on PHM techniques for software systems. During their total lifecycle, the software systems, due to various reasons such as new requirements or changes in technology, have to experience changes that can lead to a degeneration of the system's architecture. Therefore, it is important and necessary to identify and predict the software health status in order to avoid serious degeneration or erosion of system's architecture. In this paper, a software PHM approach based on Discriminant Coordinates Analysis (DCA) is proposed, and the health status of software systems is suggested to be categorized into five groups: Healthy, Normal, Sub-healthy, Unhealthy and Deteriorated. The proposed model based on software design metrics can help managers and developers predict and identify the software health status. Numerical example based on simulation data is given to illustrate its application on the modeling process.

ESS profiles with step stress level2011In: ICRMS'2011 - Safety First, Reliability Primary: Proceedings of 2011 9th International Conference on Reliability, Maintainability and Safety, 2011, p. 1156-1161Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) is usually referred to the process of exposing a product to environmental stresses for detecting and eliminating latent defects made in manufacturing process. The common ESS profiles are using thermal cycling, random vibration or their combinations as the screening stresses. Various guidelines and standards have been available for determining an ESS profile. Nevertheless, there are cases that the standard ESS profiles may not be efficient enough to detect the latent defects in some manufacturing process. This paper reports the results of one industrial project on the ESS profile design for circuits. In the project, a comparative study was carried out for the evaluation of the ESS strength under the ESS profiles with incremental step stresses (ISS). The ISS profile under the study is firstly to implement a step thermal cycling and then perform the test with two screening stimuli concurrently: ordinary thermal cycling and random vibration of step increasing intensity levels. For the purpose of the comparative study, the ESS test samples were consisted of two groups A and B that were made at two different levels of manufacturing: soldering by skilled and unskilled workers, respectively. The comparative study shows that the ISS profiles are effective for exposing the latent defects in sample group A and B. Based on the project results, an ESS profile is recommended in this paper.
