    Abstract [en]

    One of major concerns in gas turbine industry is to reduce emissions.  Tow kind of approaches could be identified in the industry to reduce emissions, namely Primary Emission Reduction approach and Secondary Emission Reduction approach. The primary approach concerns emission prevention in combustion, while secondary approach is all about emission cleanup before releasing to the atmosphere.

    Combustion flame temperature highly influences on emissions specially NOx formation.  NOx emission is lower when the combustor operates close to lean flammability limit. Incorporating catalyst to combustor is one of methods to extend flammability limit.  Heat and Power Division at KTH-Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden has developed a test facility to test performances of catalyst in combustion.

    The combustion test facility available at Heat & Power Davison at KTH, consists of high pressure air compressor and air flow control system, air preheating unit and control system, fuel flow control system, combustor unit, and exhaust gas analyzer system. But lack of proper user interface to control and monitor the operation of the test facility through a computer work station was a major concern from experimenters.

    The purpose of the thesis work is to design and construction of supervisory control and data acquisition system for the full scale catalytic combustion test facility.  Labview 2012 is used as the main platform for implementing data acquisition and control system for the test facility. Thermocouples, pressure transducer signals, air flow meter signal are connected to Keithley 2701 data acquisition system and then connected to the computer. Fuel flow controllers are directly connected to the computer via serial port. Air flow control actuator signal is given through ADAM digital to analogue converter.

    Developed GUI is more convenient for users in terms of easy control of air flow, fuel flow and gas sampling probe systems, and monitoring of temperature, pressure measurements and exhaust gas species systems. And also GUI provides web interface to select correct conversion factor, and also to view live data recording. The developed GUI can be accessed through online to monitor the operation.

    Although computers have been around for a long time and are used more and more, the use of paper inoffices remains. One of the reasons is that there are not good enough digital tools to get rid of paper from work. In this qualitative case study, the office department of ABB Components is investigating on how the implementation processes for a paperless information flows can be introduced in ways that generate benefits of working digitally.

    The result of this study will be based on data collected from interviews and observations carriedout in the office. By identifying which processes using paper in the office, different tools have been developed to facilitate the implementation. The result of this study suggests that the implementation of a paperless information flows must be a well-planned change process where tools are developed to compensate for the earlier use of paper.

    With the introduction of paperless information flows, the use of consumables will decrease and the location it takes to store these papers will disappear. This leads to more cost-effective work and less waste paper. In order for this concept to lead to a more beneficial routine it needs to be redesigned for the implementation.

    Background: The purpose of the safety stock is to compensate customers uncertain forecasts. The task of operations is to be able to cover up customers fluctuations in demand. By being able to maintain a stable and competition strong delivery performance results in a safety stock to be used, however, it entails tied-up capital. The case the company has an ambition to produce larger quantities and then store it on an external warehouse that the authors have chosen to call the safety stock.  

    Purpose: The problem of actual demand is that research questions usually take into account normal demand. By trying to fill the knowledge gap, we arrive at this purpose. The purpose is to investigate how actual demand influences the design of stock layout in order to achieve the desired delivery reliability.

    Method: To be able to answer the purpose and our questions, an abductive approach has been used where theory collection has taken place from literature and articles while empirical data is collected from the case company Smurfit Kappa. During the collection of empiricism, interviews and observations have been carried out. The collected findings have been discussed with the theory to answer the purpose and questions and lead to our conclusions.

    Findings: In the current situation, the case produces the company only against client orders and that there are no products in stock. This will result in delivery times of between 8 – 9 weeks and delivery security. An existing surface is available today to create a safety layer, there is also the possibility of a larger space if desired.

    Conclusion: With a safety stock, the case company will be able to deliver the actual demand while reducing its delivery times and increasing delivery reliability.

    Abstract [en]

    In spite of the growing interest in open innovation, one of the core questions that remain unanswered is how different kinds of openness affect innovation performance. Moreover, the impact of the geographical dispersion of partners also needs further investigation, while there is a tension between the motives for global search and the needs for proximity in innovation processes. In this paper we will research the relationship between openness and performance outcome in manufacturing companies when taking the localisation of partners into account. The study is based on survey data from 415 companies. The openness is defined by three dimensions: partner breadth, partner depth and phase depth. Performance is measured in terms of cost, risk and time-to-market, innovativeness and economic performance. The results of this study confirm and illustrate the localisation dilemma. For manufacturing companies using a global approach, it seems advisable to collaborate more intensively with a reduced number of partners. In contrast, the companies applying a more spatially balanced approach could collaborate with an increased number of partners and still be innovative and cost efficient. This implies that different localisation strategies for external partner collaborations require different integration approaches in order to be successful.

    2-emissions and electricity prices are ever increasing many companies have tried to reduce their energy consumption in order to reduce both CO2-emissions and the cost of using energy. Therefore, in this article an office building situated in Sweden have been investigated with its current ventilation flow and what saving poten-tials can be made from heat recovery and a different ventilation flow in regards to health, energy and cost. Empirical data have been collected to be able to calculate ener-gy savings made by heat recovery and new ventilation flow. A ventilation flow of 25 l/s per office were chosen and that the conference room should have at least 3 l/s per m² the dining room and locker was not investigated thoroughly and therefore a ventilation flow from the recommendations of Sweden was followed. The total flows became, 530 l/s respectively 630 l/s for the top and bottom floor. A rotating heat exchanger with an es-timated efficiency of 80% was used for heat recovery and through the two methods combined an energy reduction up to 96,4 % for heating and 83,4 % from the electricity could be reduced.

    Abstract [en]

    Introduction: Handling of materials sets different requirements depending on its characteristics. In order to meet internal demands of high delivery service at a low cost, it is important to design an effective supply of materials. New technology and the application of IT-systems can provide opportunities to streamline materials supply by increasing service levels and reducing costs.

    Purpose: The purpose of this study is to design and evaluate a working methodology in order to achieve effective internal supply of materials from goods receipt to production.

    Methods: A theoretical framework formed the basis to identify significant areas to achieve effective internal materials supply. In parallel, a case study was conducted at a company operating in the elevator industry. Data collection was primarily based on different types of interviews and observations to create an understanding of the company´s materials supply. The data obtained were mainly compared with the theoretical framework in the analysis phase of the developed working methodology. Conclusions was drawn, based on the analysis phase. Ethical aspects were taken into account throughout the work of this study.

    The developed working methodology: Based on significant identified areas, from the theoretical framework, a working methodology was developed to achieve effective internal materials supply, consisting of six phases: Prerequisites, Description of the current situation, Analysis of the current situation, Design of improvement proposals, Implementation and Follow-up. Four of these phases were applied on a company with the aim of designing improvements proposals with the potential to achieve effective internal materials supply. Finally, the applied phases of the working methodology were evaluated to highlight its strengths, challenges and possibilities of development as well as the further application.

    Conclusion: The significant areas and other supportive digital solutions were not considered sufficient enough to generate effective internal materials supply and thereby there was a necessity for an organized approach to utilize these areas. In order to support this, complements were required in form of a working methodology with a number of structured phases, including important considerations, which must be followed methodically in order to design improvement proposals which can achieve a more effective internal materials supply. The improvement proposals that were designed included, for instance, a new procedure for materials call-off, new principles for buffers, reduction of internal transports and automatic suggestion of place of storage.

    Effective and reliable delivery of services provides long-term performance to an organization. Inorder to create effective and reliable deliveries, activities that do not create value for the customer,namely the wastes, need to be reduced or eliminated. Value Stream mapping is a Leanmanagement tool that aims to clean processes from the wastes. With this as a starting point, studieshave previously been conducted to customize the tool for use on service processes. The studyresulted in Service value stream management, a model implemented in six steps. When the modelis applied in service processes, there is a wide variety of problems that may occur, it is therefore considered not possible to collect all problems in order to provide suggestions for improvements.

    This study aims to investigate whether the tool can be modified to better suit an internal serviceprocess in the pulp and paper industry. The literature review that has been conducted, revealedthat the existing model does not contain certain, according to the theory, important elementsadapted for Lean service. Beside the waste and tools that the model already consists of, fourrelevant wastes and twelve tools were found during the literature review. Other interestingcomponents that emerged through the literature review, were the views of what an organizationshould learn about and how successes should be measured. In order to fulfill the purpose of ourstudy, the Lean tool Service value stream management, was tested with the additions found duringthe literature review. The test was conducted at an internal service process at a case company tosee if there is evidence to add or remove some of the new wastes, tools or components to themodel. At the case company, data was collected through interviews and observations as well asthrough a survey. The study resulted in the 5K-model which consists five steps to eliminate andreduce wastes. With this model, organizations in the pulp and paper industry should be able tocreate higher efficiency in their internal service processes. To visualize and measure efficiency, amathematical formula was developed that could be considered useful even outside the 5K model.

    In recent years, there have been a considerable number of efforts to integrate sustainability into Higher Education Institutions (HEIs); however, there are still challenges that need to be overcome. A process that has received an increasing attention has been the Organisational Change Management for Sustainability. This article is aimed at reviewing the main drivers of the integration of sustainable practices and the barriers to change slowing or stopping it. A systematic literature review was carried out using Web of Science de Thomson Reuters and in Scopus databases focusing on retrieving all papers on sustainability in HEIs published between 2000 and 2016. The drivers of and barriers found for the integration of sustainability in HEIs were compared to those previously described for companies. The similarities on drivers to change found in HEIs and companies were greater for external ones. A lower number of barriers to change were reported in the literature for HEIs than those reported for corporations, nonetheless, it was found that HEIs and companies have several common barriers to change. The article proposes a list of main drivers of and barriers to change, some general and others context specific. The findings on the drivers of the integration of sustainable practices in HEIs can serve to identify additional good practices at companies and vice versa. The barriers to change detected for the process of integration can help into anticipating, preventing and overcoming them. This knowledge can help institutions better plan and use their resources in working to becoming more sustainable.

    Introduction: Today’s high demand on customer specific products has led to an upstream of organizations that are adapting an make-to-order production strategy. Seeing that these organizations compete by obtaining low lead-times and the ability to present unique and affordable products, a need has been created to use lean-based methods in attempt to reduce waste, create an efficient production, thus to gain competitive advantage. The issue is that lean-methods are not developed for these types of organizations. 

    Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compile a model that describes how an organization that is characterized by make-to-order strategy and with a high variety in products manufactured in low volumes can implement value stream mapping to create an efficient production and thus gain competitive advantage.

    Methodology: The study is carried out through a case-study on a company that manufacture based on the specification of customer-orders. To perform a value stream mapping, relevant literature was collected and studied. Consequently, interviews and observations were conducted and constitute the empirical data. Subsequently the literature review along with the empirical data constitutes the conclusions and findings.   

    Results: The case company is characterized by a complex manufacturing of unique products with crossing information- and material flows which complicates value stream mapping. The processes consist of manual cutting, semi-manual cutting, plywood cutting, component manufacturing, and assembling. Processes with similar operations were spread throughout the manufacturing plant and the assembly points were identified as bottle-necks.  

    Conclusion: A model that describes how an organization that is characterized by make-to-order strategy and with a high variety in products manufactured in low volumes can implement value stream mapping has been compiled. Furthermore, additional aspects have been identified that are significant in the implementation of value stream mapping within this form of production.

    Strukturering och planering har länge varit känt som viktiga faktorer som påverkar hur en verksamhet ska fungera. Förståelsen för detta har inte alltid varit densamma. Längre tillbaka fanns inte kunskap om vad detta gav. Forskning har under åren genomförts angående planering och strukturering och olika resultat har framkommit. Efter dessa resultat har principer vuxit fram som har haft påverkan på arbetssätten. Längre tillbaka låg fokus på produktivitet medan det idag har flyttats till människan och dess välbefinnande.

     

    Framgångsrika företag har genom åren studerats för att kartlägga deras framgång. Utifrån dessa data har sedan företag försökt att kopiera rakt av till sin egen verksamhet, något som sällan har lyckats. Eftersom det inte finns någon optimal lösning för alla utan varje företag eller organisation behöver se till sina behov och anpassa arbetssätten efter dessa.

    Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka vilka delar som är viktiga i ett servicesystem för att få en välfungerande verksamhet.

    Vid kontakt med det valda företaget hade de problem med att uppnå en kundåterkoppling inom rimligt antal dagar. Därför är det av intresse att se över vilka delar som är viktiga i ett servicesystem för att genom en förbättring av systemet uppnå en bättre kundåterkoppling.

    Med detta menas att se över processen från det att en motor inkommer eller en kund lägger en beställning till dess att kunden har fått ett svar, en återkoppling, med kostnad och tidsplan. Förbättringsmodellen som tas fram teoretiskt över ett system ska avgränsas till serviceinriktade och bortse från producerande.

    För att göra det möjligt att besvara syftet har observationer, intervjuer och litteraturstudier genomförts. Dessa metoder har på olika sätt bidragit till att framställa en förbättringsmodell för servicessystem, som svarar på syftet. Den slutgiltiga förbättringsmodellen innehåller fyra hörnstenar vilka är: information, logistik, Lean och kvalité. Information och logistik framkom från fallstudien och Lean och kvalité framkom under litteraturstudierna. Alla fyra hörnstenar uppmärksammades i både fallstudien och litteraturstudien, de belystes dock lite olika.  

    Då förbättringsmodellen var framtagen jämfördes den mot ABB i Storvik för att se om den fungerar mot ett verkligt företag och inte bara är teoretisk tillämpbar. Efter denna jämförelse drogs slutsatsen att den är användbar som modell för servicesystem

    How companies choose to design their supply chain is important for their competitiveness. Supplier relationships are becoming increasingly important to maintain a market position. A key factor for success is to deliver material in the right quantity, at the right time and to the right place. Other factors that play an important role are quality standards, leadership and above all, customer first. The customer should be placed at the top of the value chain, and be treated with respect. Markets are driven by short lead time and companies cannot rely on brand loyalty.

    The purpose of this study is to develop a general model for analysis and improvement of the supply chain for manufacturing companies, with focus on components from external suppliers. The model is created based on a literature review and to examine this, the model was tested at Företaget. The empirical data is mainly conducted by interviews, complemented by one observation. The analysis model consists of seven areas based on Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Lean. A key factor to analyze these seven areas is to map the current situation. The results have been filtered through the analysis model and have led to suggestions for improvement. These suggestions are only recommendations and the companies choose what to take further into action.

    Företaget is one of Sweden’s leading window manufacturers with two strong brands, Produkt 1 and Produkt 2. Most of the production process is carried out in Edsbyn and the size of the factory is as big as ten football pitches at 65,000 squares meters. Wooden-aluminum windows are an increasing trend and stands for two thirds of the sales. The study is focusing on one selected component which is the flow for aluminum profiles.

    The conclusion shows that supply chain management, logistics and Lean play an important role while building an efficient supply chain. Relationship, communication and information sharing with suppliers are of great importance and needs to be constant developed and improved. Leadership is a key element to get all the areas to work and it is the leaders that characterize the culture of the company. The study has resulted in a number of improvement suggestions for Företaget. One suggestion for improvement is to develop a routine for documentation when a deviation occurs in the final assembly. This will enable the follow-up and help to find the main cause for appearance.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: This thesis explores the bi-directional flows of material perceived by manufacturing firms in the supply chain and accordingly derive suggestions to properly manage these flows to increase customer satisfaction and reduce cost.

    Methods: A literature review was summarized in a conceptual framework. This framework was then illustrated in a case. In this case, 11 semi-structured interviews, 3 participant observations and 3 types of archival records were collected. Analysis and discussion of the preliminary conceptual framework compared to the case was the basis for the modified conceptual framework that was designed.

    Main findings: In general material flows downstream the supply chain, but because of quality issues, recycling or returns material need to flow upstream the supply chain. This thesis provides a holistic view of how to manage these flows with a modified conceptual framework.

    Academic contributions: Previously, almost no academic research has been conducted on decision variables when it comes to managing material flows upstream the supply chain. This thesis contributes to closing this gap by suggesting different actions to properly manage the bi-directional flow of material. Furthermore, previous research addressing how to manage material flows has been re-accessed and expanded.

    Managerial implications: By using the framework, practitioners can determine helpful activities to increase customer satisfaction and reduce cost. This means management gets directions of where to allocate their resources.

    Limitations: The perspective and evidence in this research are only collected from the manufacturer’s point of view, valuable insight from suppliers and customers may have been overlooked. The suggestions of how to manage the bi-directional flow of materials have not been tested and the outcome of these recommendations has not been compared to KPIs or other measurements.

    Hudiksvall Municipality will build a new preschool. The goal is that the pre-school should reflect the municipality's environmental goals and meet building regulations. The wall structures that are compared in the report is an insulated wooden frame and a frame of lightweight concrete blocks from H + HWall structures are compared within the areas of U-values, air tightness, thermal storage capacity, fire ratings, moisture, durability, emissions and environment. In these categories the two wall structures will be rated in a scale from 1 to 5 and then the categories are weighted against each other. The weighting is based on Hudiksvall Municipality's assessment of the categories importanse for their final selection.The results of the comparison show that the concrete structure is recommended for the construction of pre-school with 27.55 points against the wooden structures 23.70 points. The highest possible score after weighting is 34 points.

    Sustainability Reporting has become a key element in different organisations. Although there have been a number of academic publications discussing the adoption of sustainability reports in the public sector, their numbers have been quite low when compared to those focussing on corporate reports. Additionally, there has been little research on the link between sustainability reporting in Public Sector Organisations (PSOs) and Organisational Change Management for Sustainability (OCMS). This paper focuses on the contribution of sustainability reporting to OCMS. A survey was sent to all PSOs that have published at least one sustainability report based on the GRI guidelines. The study provides a critical analysis of the relation between sustainability reporting and OCMS in PSOs, including the drivers for reporting, the impacts on organisation change management, and the role of stakeholders in the process. Despite still lagging in sustainability reporting journey, PSOs are starting to use sustainability reporting as a communication tool, and this could drive organisational changes for sustainability.

    Upphandlingsprocessen kan ses som en form av beslutsprocess. Inom beslutsteori har det under flera år forskats om psykologiska fällor och misstag vid beslutsfattande. Det finns en hel del teorier om hur dessa fällor och misstag kan undvikas. Syftet med denna studie är att jämföra fallgropar vid beslutsfattande med fallgropar vid offentlig upphandling samt analysera hur resultaten från den beslutsteoretiska forskningen kan användas som stöd i upphandlingsarbetet. Resultatet visar att likheterna är många och att resultatet från den beslutsteorietiska forskningen på ett enkelt sätt kan konkretiseras och användas i upphandlingsarbetet.

    Vårdrelaterade infektioner är bland de vanligaste orsakerna till vårdskador i svensk sjukvård. Att förebygga vårdrelaterade infektioner kräver ett målmedvetet arbete med hygienrutiner i alla delar av vårdkedjan och att de vårdgivande enheterna får tydlig och konkret återkoppling på sitt vårdhygieniska arbete. Syftet med detta magisterarbete var att ta fram en modell för att, med hjälp av beslutsteoretiska metoder, sammanfatta de kvalitetsmätningar som görs på ett svenskt sjukhus (Södra Älvsborgs Sjukhus, Borås) för att ge en återkoppling av den vårdhygieniska kvaliteten hos sjukhusets avdelningar. Arbetet genomfördes som ett aktionsforskningsprojekt, där teori och praktik samspelar i ett cykliskt förlopp för att lösa ett specifikt problem. Slutresultatet blev en färgkodad matris över mätvärden kopplade till olika jämförelsenivåer. Modellen ger en helhetsbild där detaljer samtidigt framgår tydligt, men saknar den viktning av olika aspekter som är vanlig inom beslutsteoretiska bedömningsinstrument. En tydlig utmaning var att beslutsteoretiska modeller kan upplevas som abstrakta och svårförståeliga för en lekman, vilket till viss del begränsar deras användning som ett återkopplingsverktyg.

    För att kunna reducera de effekter som klimatförändringarna orsakar behöver energisystemen effektiviseras. Eftersom fastighetsbeståndet idag mestadels består av äldre byggnader, blir renoveringar och effektiviseringar viktiga för att kunna få ner energianvändningen. För att renovering och effektivisering ska gynna både klimatet och fastighetsägaren bör det planeras långsiktigt redan från start samt inkludera ett livscykeltänk. Syftet med detta arbete är att utföra en energikartläggning av en kontorsbyggnad från 1988 som är belägen i Gävle samt presentera eventuella energibesparingsåtgärder. Huvudfokus har varit på frågan om hur olika typer av underhåll och underhållsskulder påverkar en fastighet, med störst inriktning på den tekniska utrustningen. Metoder som använts i arbetet har varierat från praktiska mätningar till en litteraturstudie och intervjuer. För att få en inblick om förvaltningsbolag vet vad en underhållsskuld är skickades en enkät ut med några frågor kring ämnet. Energikartläggningen visade att kontorsbyggnaden är i bra skick och de åtgärder som presenteras berör ventilation och värmesystemet. Ett byte av ventilationsaggregatet föreslås som reducerar värmeanvändningen med 15 % och elanvändningen med 28% samt minskar utsläppen med 2,7 ton CO2 per år. Återbetalningstiden är lång, men en LCC-kalkyl beräknad på 20 år redovisar att bytet är lönsamt långsiktigt. Behålls det gamla aggregatet kan tilluftstemperaturen sänkas och innetemperaturen justeras ned med någon grad. Detta bidrar till att reducera värmeanvändningen med 13 %. Resultatet som framkom i litteraturstudien samt intervjuer visar att eftersatt underhåll leder till att fastighetens värde minskar och att pålitligheten för systemen reduceras, vilket ökar risken för dåligt inneklimat. Det förebyggande underhållet syftar till att utrustningen ska hålla optimal prestanda medans felavhjälpande underhåll sker när komponenten tappat sin funktion. Förebyggande underhåll visar sig mer kostnadseffektivt jämfört med felavhjälpande underhåll. Arbetsbelastningen och underhållskostnaden kommer öka i takt med underhållsskulden samtidigt som en försämring av fastighetens livslängd sker. Sammanställningen av enkäten visade att förvaltningsbolagen har koll på vad en underhållsskuld är och att de svarande bolagen jobbar med ett livcykeltänk.

    För att öka lönsamheten hos ett tillverkande företag är det viktigt att ha optimala tillverkningskvantiteter så att resurserna utnyttjas optimalt. Hur ett tillverkande företag utnyttjar produktionen påverkar effektiviteten i produktionssystemet, lagret och hos personalen. Syftet med denna studie är att hitta en metod för att optimera tillverkningskvantiteter så att kostnaden per produkt blir så låg som möjligt. I denna studie har vi använt oss av företagets distributör i Indien som ett exempel för hur en manuell produktion ser ut i dagslägen och jämför hur kostnaderna skulle se ut om denna produktion skulle ske maskinellt.

    Arbetet är en fallstudie där tillverkningskvantiteter analyseras. Både kvalitativ och kvantitativ forskning har bedrivits för att få en djupare förståelse av problemet. I arbetet ingår bland annat teorier som rör lager, partiformning och kostnader som rör tillverkning och orderhantering. Ett antal observationer och intervjuer har utförts för att för att få en djupare inblick i tillverkning och hantering av produkter hos företag. Empirisk data som nämns är beskrivningar av företagets produktionssystem och lager.

    Denna studie resulterar i att ”företag” bör använda partiformningsmetoden "Ekonomisk orderkvantitet" för optimering av tillverkningskvantiteter. Metoden går ut på att balansera ordersärkostnader och lagerhållningskostnader. Är dessa kostnader likvärdiga uppnås den mest kostnadseffektiva tillverkningskvantiteten. Studien har resulterat i en lathund där den mest optimala tillverkningskvantiteten presenteras beroende på produktefterfrågan per år.

    En analys av distributören Indiens order resulterar i att ”företag” bör producera ordrar likt Indiens beställningar maskinellt istället för omarbetning manuellt vilket sker i dagsläget. Redan vid en tillverkningskvantitet på 120 produkter är maskinell bearbetning mest kostnadseffektivt jämfört med en manuell ombearbetning.

    A framework for a decision analysis method that is based on the principle of maximization of the expected utility regarding alternatives of age assessment for unaccompanied asylum seekers is here presented. Using the framework, different methods (dental, knee joint, hand wrist and the method used by The National Board of Forensic Medicine (RMV) that combines the methods for dental och knee joint) for medical age assessment are compared. These methods are further compared with three benchmark alternatives, (i) to trust the age given by the unaccompanied asylum seeker which results that all are considered to be children, (ii) to consider all the unaccompanied asylum seekers as adults and (iii) the absurd alternative to flip a coin to decide who is a child or an adult.

    For the decision analysis, assumptions and/or estimates for the age distribution of the unaccompanied refugees are needed and estimates for the different methods regarding how probably it is to be considered an adult given the actual age. The outcome of a child that is incorrectly classified is assumed to give the lowest utility and a correct classification (both children and adult) is assumed to give the highest utility. The utility of the outcome of an adult that is incorrectly classified as a child needs to be quantified.

    The age distribution of unaccompanied refugee, considered for age assessment is here assumed to be a combination of two continuous uniform distributions, with the interval 15-18 years (child) and 18-21 years (adult). Two utility models are examined, a discrete model that only consider if the individual is a child or an adult and a continuously linear utility model that consider the age difference from 18 years given an incorrect classification.

    The analyzes carried out demonstrates how the framework can be used in practice. Given the assumptions that are made the conclusion is that the alternative that gives the highest expected utility depends on the prevalence (proportion of adults) together with the valuation of the utility for an incorrect classified adult. Regardless of the valuation, when the prevalence is close to 0 all should be considered to be children, when the prevalence increases should be replaced with a method that largely classifies children correct when the prevalence is further increased should be replaced with a method that largely classifies adults correct and finally, when the prevalence is close to 1 all should be considered as adults.

    This report analyses and describes how the bid/no-bid decisions are made at one ICT service company. The analysis is based on current available research within the area of multi criteria decision analysis to enhance the company’s decision process. It proposes how the bid engagement decision can be structured and evaluated. Through a questionnaire at the ICT company, data from its own bids was collected to identify the factors perceived to be relevant to the bid/no bid decision. It is found that the factors can vary depending on industry, market and potentially bid situation, requiring experts’ assessment of which factors to use for each bid situation. Concluding the study, an initial bid model is proposed, but with reservations due to lack of validation in real life situations. A recommendation to expand the existing bid model with probability distribution based risk estimates is made.

    Lean production is the name given to Toyota’s Production System (TPS) by the west. The continuous improvements of their operations through Lean has made Toyota into the largest car manufacturer in the world. This, in turn, has led to several studies regarding both Toyota and their system as to find ways to apply Lean in other organizations. Even so, over 90 percent of all companies fail to implement Lean. Thus it becomes increasingly interesting to research as to how Lean, successfully, should be implemented.

     

    The purpose of this thesis is to construct a model which will aid companies with the implementation process and to further the rate of success. Factors regarding what makes for a successful as well as a failed implementation will be analyzed. 

     

    A case study is used with two different companies in order to analyze empirical data in comparison to earlier research. One company represents a more successful case and the other a less successful one. 

     

    The main findings of this paper is the order of which different aspects of Lean is to be implemented to increase the possibilities for successful implementation. Furthermore the emphasis on a, for Lean, correct leadership within the company that requires genuine understanding and commitment.

     

    The conclusion is displayed as a model where one can see the crucial steps in order to increase the success rate regarding the implementation of Lean. The main points of the model is the importance of support from leaders in combination with an accepting culture where people are of significant importance. The model can be viewed in chapter 6.

    Carbon dioxide levels are increasing as a consequence of larger energy use worldwide. This has led to regulations and rules of emission and energy consumption. In order to stop global warming and reduce energy consumption, EU has agreed on four common goals to achieve by the year 2020, also known as the 20-20-20 goals. Sweden has also come up with its own environmental goals to achieve by the year 2020. They include increasing the share of renewable energy by at least 50 percent, improve the use of energy by at least 20 percent and increase the share of renewable energy in the transportation sector by at least 10 percent.   Due to the laws and requirements related to stricter energy consumption and carbon emissions companies strive to use more energy efficient technology and more energyconscious behavior. Energy audit is an effective and an important tool in identifying and illustrating a company's energy usage for the clarification of future measures and improvement.  The thesis aims to illustrate Kv. Freden's use of energy and come up with both economically and energy saving measures to reduce its and other similar building's energy consumption. Six questions have been used to determine the energy distribution in the building and find defects in the management and maintenance of the indoor climate and develop cost-effective solutions for the choice of measures.   Five methods were chosen for approaching and answering the questions. A literature review was performed using keywords such as "Energy Saving", "Energy Audit" and "Behaviour" in online databases containing scientific articles. Thereafter an empirical analysis of the data supplied for the building was performed, which enabled modeling and simulation of the building in the program IDA ICE 4.6.1. A thermography and a qualitative survey regarding energy conscious behavior were performed as proof of assumptions.  The ventilation in this thesis is found inadequate after applied methods.  With simulated FTX-systems installed in the building, a maximum energy saving potential about 17 percent is achieved, which corresponds to a energy use of 97 kWh/m2. Excluding FTX, the simulated measures which prove to be the most profitable for the building is the sealing of doors and windows in order to reduce infiltration. These two measures are the most cost effective energy saving solutions regarding Kv. Freden and similar buildings.  The building's simulated energy use is represented by 29 percent electricity and 71 percent of district heating usage, which compared with the energy data provided by Gävle Energi relates to a reliability equivalent to 97.5 percent and 96 percent. The simulation program IDA ICE proved to be an efficient tool for the simulation of a building's energy use and application of possible measures.

    This thesis gives an example of how decision analytic methods can be applied to choices in the adoption of cloud computing. The lifecycle of IT systems from planning to retirement is rapidly changing. Making a technology decision that can be justified and explained in terms of outcomes and benefits can be increasingly challenging without a systematic approach underlying the decision making process. It is proposed that better, more informed cloud adoption decisions would be taken if organisations used a structured approach to frame the problem to be solved and then applied trade-offs using an additive utility model. The trade-offs that can be made in the context of cloud adoption decisions are typically complex and rarely intuitively obvious. A structured approach is beneficial in that it enables decision makers to define and seek outcomes that deliver optimum benefits, aligned with their risk profile. The case study demonstrated that proven decision tools are helpful to decision makers faced with a complex cloud adoption decision but are likely to be more suited to the more intractable decision situations.

    This paper gives an account of and analyzes a concept for materials supply within Ericsson Corporation. The study is focused on the customer’s point of view. The concept, called by Ericsson In-House Delivery (IHD), could be identified as a manual form of the principle of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI). In IHD the supplier has the responsibility for dimensioning the customer’s production store and also for physically replenishing the storeroom without any traditional purchase orders or transactions in IT systems regarding inventory control. This method contrasts with the more traditional Material Requirements Planning (MRP), which is more dependent on data than IHD is. IHD also differ to how VMI normally is implemented using IT-based solutions. IHD could be an uncomplicated method for manufacturing companies to manage non-critical purchased parts or standard parts with low economical importance, and its use could help the company achieve its logistics goals.

    Söderhamns kommun, belägen på Sveriges östkust, är upplåtare av bostadsarrenden med anknytning till Söderhamns skärgård. Avgifterna för bostadsarrendena har inte följt den prisutveckling som skett på fastighetsmarknaden de senaste åren därför var syftet med detta arbete att beskriva och analysera en marknadsanpassad arrendeavgiftsnivå samt en marknadsanpassad prissättning vid friköp av arrendetomter som ägs av kommunen. En skälig avkastning på mark som utarrenderas ansågs vara 3 – 4 %. Målsättningen var att ta fram förslag på prissättning av bostadsarrende som Söderhamns kommun skulle kunna använda sig av.

    I denna rapport har kvantitativa metoder använts, den första var att beräkna ett simulerat markvärde för bostadsarrendena och utifrån det erhålla en årlig arrendeavgift. Den andra var ortsprismetoden där både sålda fastigheter i Söderhamns kommun samt arrendeavgifter för bostadsarrenden i olika kommuner jämfördes för att få fram årliga arrendeavgifter och den tredje var avkastningsmetoden där friköpspriserna vid friköp av arrendetomterna beräknades. Slutligen gjordes en ekonomisk rekommendation av de årliga arrendeavgifterna och friköpspriserna. I en karta som skapades med hjälp av Geografiskt informationssystem (GIS) har de årliga arrendeavgifterna från metoden "simulerat markvärde" visualiserats för att lättare kunna analyseras och förstås. Beräkningarna resulterade i olika förslag på årliga arrendeavgifter utifrån de tre metoderna samt förslag på friköpspriser av arrendetomter.

    En svårighet med arbetet var att hitta information om tillvägagångssätt vid prissättning av bostadsarrenden, trots detta har vi dragit slutsatsen att resultatet från "simulerat markvärde" borde visa de mest rättvisa arrendeavgifterna och friköpspriserna, men det bästa är att jämföra arrendeavgifter i närliggande områden.

    Abstract [en]

    EU regulations, decisions and policy making are matters that concern every resident in the EU and risk and benefit assessment and analysis form part of the EU decision and policy making. This thesis discusses the decision/policy making in the EU and the risk assessment activities of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), as well as ECHA’s socio-economic analysis activities. It also studies the role of the European Commission and the Comitology process. The EU regulates what chemicals or food stuffs/ingredients, for instance additives, may be made available in the European market. How the decisions are made about what is allowed and what not, and who makes those decisions, is not necessarily evident due to the complexity of the processes. In this thesis the decision making at different stages of the EU regulatory processes has been identified and analysed in order to find out by whom and how the decisions are made. The method used was a literature search with an overview of the existing theories and research from the areas of EU decision making, risk assessment and risk management. The regulatory processes were studied from a decision making perspective with the aim to identify and record possible decision making opportunities of different actors beyond the European Commission. The decision making opportunities were classified and organised based on their level of impact to the processes. Two real cases were studied: the restriction of lead in jewellery under REACH Annex XV restrictions and the authorisation of ammonium chloride in food under Flavourings regulation. Decision making opportunities and methods were looked for in those processes. It was found that while, in the studied cases, there appeared possibilities to ensure science based good regulatory decision/policy making, it remained uncertain and possibly politicised. It was also revealed that in certain steps the processes lacked transparency.

    When a new product is launched, product defects in various processes and process steps willprobably appear that were not previously known or detected. The purpose of this study is to create aworking model for how middle-sized companies should manage to handle defects in quality thatwill appear in manufacturing productions. To be able to create a realistic model, this thesis will bebased on a case study of a manufacturing company by the name of AQ ParkoPrint AB, located in Gävle, Sweden.

    The following research questions are answered in order to support the main purpose:

    • What defects in quality occur most often in middle-sized manufacturing companies?

    • How can these defects in quality be managed, and if possible, be reduced?

    The methods used in this study are interviews and observations. Five interviews and twoobservations were performed on AQ ParkoPrint AB. The working model that was created wasnamed “Five-step-model” and involves the process of managing defects in quality divided into fivesteps: document, investigate, illustrate, propose action and implement. The “Five-step model” isdesigned for middle-sized manufacturing companies focused on creating a way to worksystematically with how to managing quality defects and how to reduce them if possible. The stepsin this model are flexible because every single company should be able to customize each step tosuit their company needs, and only use the “Five-step model” that is created in this study as thebasic structure of the quality work. The case study shows that the suppliers are the majorcontributors of causing quality defects. Middle-sized companies can use the developed five stepmodel to handle and reduce their quality defects. The “Five-step model” itself requires no expensivetools. It is the extent of the work in every specific step that determines the costs.This study also presents some question formulations that companies can use to reduce their qualitydefects that can be traced back to the subcontractors.

    In modern society in terms of economics and environmental impact, it is important to ensure that a company is as energy efficient as possible to reduce the amount of energy used. About 10 TWh of electricity used annually to pump drives in Swedish industry. Therefore, pumping system has great potential for energy savings.

    The objective of this report was to determine how much energy and money that can be saved with the insertion of variable speed drive to six pumps on Bleach plant 4 in Skutskär Mill. The work was performed with electrical measurements during one week, analysis of pump curves and the compilation of production data over a year.

    The results show that four of these six pumps were profitable and yielded an annual saving of 1172 MWh of electricity and 560 000 SEK. With an economic lifetime of 10 years and a discount rate of 6.8% the final result for the entire life-cycle savings became 3 355 000 SEK. The conclusion was that it is preferred to introduce variable speed drive on pumps with a motor power above 50 kW.

    Likvärdighet är ett centralt begrepp inom skolans värld med utgångspunkt i skollagen. Med avgränsning till den obligatoriska grundskolan eftersöks i denna uppsats kriterier för likvärdighet med avseende på utbildning, bland annat genom begreppsanalytiska resonemang kring ”utbildning”, ”likvärdighet” och ”likvärdig utbildning”. Även ett mätningsteoretiskt resonemang förs, liksom en diskussion om vad det kan tänkas innebära att, utifrån Skolverkets tolkning av ”likvärdig utbildning”, ge elever ”samma möjligheter” att nå de nationellt uppsatta kunskaps- och värdegrundsmålen. Indikatorer för likvärdig utbildning framtagna av Skolverket och Rädda Barnen diskuteras också.

    Syftet med denna uppsats är att utvärdera onlineversionen av programvaran MakeItRational med avseende på metoden som används för att beräkna så kallade vikter (weights) på basis av parvisa jämförelser. Studiens teoretiska del bygger på T.L. Saatys analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Större vikt läggs på tillämpningen av AHP-metoden med tonvikt på beräkning av vikter och hantering av parvisa jämförelsematriser. Uppsatsen empiriska del bygger på två beslutsanalyser utförda med hjälp av onlineversionen av MakeItRational och motsvarande egna beräkningar. Studiens resultat indikerar att onlineversionen av MakeItRational använder högeregenvektorsmetoden för att beräkna vikter.

    Chemicals are integral to almost all sectors of society, bringing many benefits, but the sound management throughout their lifecycle is essential in order to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. The object of this study, the Authorisation regime in EU’s REACH-regulation, is one regulatory instrument to control chemicals.

    It is important that decision-making is consistent, transparent and open to ensure legitimacy. This is particularly true for the control of chemicals because it is a contested policy area, where policy effectiveness does not have an objective standard of measurement. With reference to this, the aspects studied were the form and application of rules and procedures for making decisions.

    Overall findings are that the decision-making includes published procedures and justifications for made decisions. The studied individual decision problems are open with mandatory public consultations, allowing input and participation from interested parties. Justification for choosing decision support tools with consequent effects on outcomes is less transparent. This also applies to operationalisation of some critical concepts.

    There is no definite or value-free method that can be applied to measure to what extent the objectives are met in all of the various decisions in the REACH Authorisation regime. This could potentially lead to decisions based on individual’s subjective judgments. The influence of individual value-based judgments on the outcome is mitigated by having groups of persons as decision-makers, rather than individuals, and by transparency. Certain decisions include value judgments on the acceptability of risk either made by expert judgment embedded in standards and protocols or included in a formal type of assessment. The underlying assumptions regarding values are not evident in these cases.

    The methodology for the decision-making has developed over time, with a decision support tool introduced for prioritisation. This algorithm-based tool supports decision-making, but actual prioritisations were often based on aspects not considered in the tool. This is likely to continue to be the case, even if (as foreseen) relevant and structured information on substances becomes more readily available.

    The first phase in the REACH authorisation decision procedures, clarifying and defining issues, is probably the single most important phase. It can also be demanding in time and resources. The regime includes sequential decisions, where the decision-maker’s information requirements includes increasing number of aspects from the first to the last decision. Since not all substances go through the entire sequence, this is efficient in terms of use of resources to elicit information.

    Problem - The challenge investigated in this present study is for a project-based organization to create a well-planned implementation by knowing the current state of the organization and its readiness for a change. This while also taking the time for unexpected events and communicating the issue while also taking their organizational structure into consideration.

    Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze the readiness to change for the case company with focus on three aspects of readiness: information sharing, common views and implementation approach, while also taking into account the distinct features of a PBO-structured organization. The study aims to identify supporting factors for successfully managing an implementation of a new business system at the individual level.

    Method - This study is a case study based on a single case company: Sweco, which is a Swedish technical consulting firm that is about to change their business system. A literature review was conducted in order to collect previously conducted research within the research area. The primary methods used for data collection in this study have been semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire, the data was mainly analyzed though thematic analysis.

    Results – The readiness for change for the case company is affected by their organizational structure. The results of the questionnaire show that collaboration within Sweco works relatively well, but there are some aspects that can be improved, such as communication and information sharing. The results of the conducted interviews show that most employees at the case company perceive the change of business system to be good, but they were unsure about why it would be carried through. Guides on how the change would affect the specific individual and knowing where to turn for feedback and information was pointed out as a suggested improvement by the employees. A lot of responsibility of implementing the new system was put on the unit managers.

    Conclusions - The study strengthens the existing theory regarding change readiness and individual supporting factors for successful change implementation. It confirms some of the strengths and drawbacks for organizations working with projects. The study also concludes how the case-company and other companies in a similar situation can utilize some advantages of being familiar with working in projects.

    Detta arbete behandlar artificiell intelligens som beslutsmetod. Efter inledande diskussioner om de övergripande skillnaderna mellan hjärnans och datorns funktionssätt, olika utvecklingsinriktningar av artificiell intelligens samt olika metoder för att skapa artificiell intelligens identifieras strategier för hur artificiell intelligens kan användas som beslutsmetod beroende på faktorer som transparens, effektivitet samt mängden tillgänglig testdata. Exempelvis identifieras några typiska beslutssituationer där det kan antas att automatiserat beslutsfattande baserat på artificiell intelligens har stor potential, samt situationer då metoden kan antas vara mindre lämplig. Därefter analyseras teknikutvecklingen inom artificiell intelligens, både generellt och inom fyra specifika tillämpningsområden: inom autonoma fordon, inom finans, inom medicin och inom militären. Både den övergripande undersökningen av den generella teknikutvecklingen och studien av de fyra teknikområdena indikerar fortsatt mycket snabb utveckling inom området. Exempelvis visar en analys av patentdatabasen Espacenet att antalet patent inom området utvecklas i det närmaste exponentiellt. Samtidigt har det på senare tid gjorts flera tekniska genombrott, t.ex. utvecklandet av allt effektivare algoritmer genom användandet av hierarkiska strukturer med flera olika nivåer av ickelinjär informationsbearbetning, något som ofta benämns Deep Learning. Ett exempel är den metod för artificiell intelligens som utvecklas av DeepMind, som visat sig vara tillämpningsbar inom många olika områden, från att spela klassiska datorspel som Space Invaders och Breakout på en övermänsklig nivå till att göra betydande effektiviseringar i driften av Googles datorhallar. Även ur ett hårdvaruperspektiv är utvecklingen närmast exponentiell, driven av kontinuerliga framsteg inom tillverkningsprocesser samtidigt som det nyligen gjorts betydande framsteg med specialiserade kretsar för artificiell intelligens, något som sannolikt kommer att resultera i ännu snabbare utveckling av kraftfullare artificiell intelligens inom en nära framtid. Med hänsyn till teknikens effektivitet och den mycket snabba utvecklingen inom området diskuteras även några specifika frågeställningar som ofta nämns i diskussionen om artificiell intelligens, dess påverkan på arbetsmarknaden och den globala säkerhetsbalansen, för att baserat på detta sedan diskutera artificiell intelligens som beslutsmetod även i ett vidare perspektiv.

    Examensarbetet är en litteraturstudie med syfte att identifiera och kategorisera vilka tankefällor, heuristiker och tankemönster en beslutsfattare kan genomgå när den egna eller en nära anhörigs hälsa sviktar. Resultatet pekar på att det inte finns något entydigt mönster i hur beslut fattas rent generellt,  men  däremot kan ett flertal olika faktorer påverka beslutsfattande och val i samband med den stress och depression, samt ångest som en hälsorelaterad livskris kan innebära. I samband med stress framkom tydligast att individer kan råka ut för reflektionseffekten, uppvisa ett risksökande beteende samt bearbeta information mindre noggrant. I samband med depression pekar resultatet på en tendens till förlustaversion, samt i vissa fall även negativitetsfällan. I hälsorelaterade sammanhang tyder resultatet på inramningseffekten i samband med medicinska frågor, och projiceringsfällan när livskrisen även rör närstående och deras hälsotillstånd.

    The mining industry contains many factors with a high degree of uncertainty. Therefore, there is a need for decision analysis. The production drill process is an initial process in underground mining, thus it is important that the most appropriate drilling method is used for specific mining operations. The current study provides examples of important variables that can be used in the decision analysis of the given decision problem. Drill methods included in the decision analysis are hydraulic top-hammer, pneumatic, and hydraulic down-the-hole hammers. Monte Carlo simulations are used as decision analysis method and tornado diagrams are used to determine how large effect the variables have on the results given the variation in each variable. The Monte Carlo simulations are based on a hypothetical case. It is challenging to analyze only the drilling process because the results of this process influence other processes in the mine. Thus, a comprehensive decision model that includes several processes of the mining operation would be of value to the decision maker. The presented calculations focus on cost per ton in terms of direct and indirect costs of drilling. Examples of safety and environmental criteria are given, for a possible extension of the analysis.

    Knowledge about logistics and its economic importance for organizations has grown considerably in the recent decades. Logistics has been seen as a factor for a business success and contributes through effective information- and material flow to an organization's competitiveness. Organizations strive for profitability by responding to market demand and maximizing the machines utilization. This leads to early wear and tear of the machines, which then demands efficient storage operations that facilitate ongoing maintenance by supplying spare parts and components. The purpose of the study is to investigate the efficiency of material delivery at disk and seek to explain the factors that contribute to efficient material flows in an industrial storage operation. The process's activities are mapped through time and motion study, benchmarking, interviews and observations are conducted to develop the knowledge about the factors affecting the material flow. The empirical data is analysed with the help of a literature review. While mapping the material disk, it was found that it is a resource-intensive work and does not contribute to an efficient material flow. This study shows that how the number of services can be minimized by means of reservations, kitting, and reduction of non-critical items in the storage, EDI and self-service.

     

    To enable self-service, this study presents the supporting factors, like material requisition, good visualization, barcodes, manual scanning and monitoring. This study presents the factors that contribute to an effective material flow in an industrial storage operations, for instance. The study's contribution to the case company is the consumed time of the material disk which amounted to 82.5 hours per month with an associated cost of approximately 300,000 SEK per year. Finally, the theoretical gap related to material flow within production is presented. Future research should address material planning and material flows from a storage perspective.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of the present study is to examine how risk is perceived and managed in one wilderness-based therapeutic program for at-risk teenagers, through the lens of high reliability theory. This theoretical framework has emerged through analyses of (usually technologically complex) organizations that are perceived as high-risk, yet appear to largely avoid negative outcomes. While outdoor adventure therapy programs for at-risk youth remain unstudied within the framework, I propose that they may fulfill some criteria associated with so-called high reliability organizations (HROs). A case study approach, applying a number of principles identified by Weick and Sutcliffe (2007) as key to organizational reliability, is taken. I use a set of surveys by the aforementioned authors along with semi-structured interviews to elicit front-line staff perspectives on risk, risk tolerance, risk management, and related communication and decision-making, thereby exploring the extent to which these principles are relevant and applicable in this setting. The characteristics and principles identified in the chosen literature on high reliability organizing appear to fit relatively well with this organization’s risk management practices, as experienced and described by its front-line staff, however individual responses vary. The principles appear most relevant to risks related to client behaviours, less so to risks related to the wilderness environment, suggesting the framework used here may be usefully applied in a range of organizations where management of risky behaviours is key.

    I arbetet undersöks vad som menas med socialtjänstkvalitet och hur socialtjänstkvalitet kan mätas. Socialtjänsten i Vetlanda kommun används som ett exempel genom texten. En litteraturgenomgång görs för att finna vad socialtjänstkvalitet är och mätning av socialtjänstkvalitet diskuteras och problematiseras i ett mätningsteoretiskt resonemang. Även de sätt Vetlanda kommun använder för att försöka mäta socialtjänstkvalitet redovisas. Arbetet kommer inte fram till en entydig definition på socialtjänstkvalitet. Däremot finns det flera tecken på att socialtjänstkvalitet kan ses som ett grundöppet mellanbegrepp.

    Analytic Hierarchy Process, AHP, är en spridd och mycket omdiskuterad metod för att analysera multikriterieproblem. Syftet med uppsatsen är göra beslutsfattare som använder AHP uppmärksamma på några av de problem som kan finnas med att använda AHP. Uppsatsen redogör detaljerat för hur beslutsfattarens indata behandlas av AHP och visar både med ett konkret exempel och med en formell beskrivning hur en rangordning av alternativ genereras av AHP. Den detaljerade redogörelsen illustrerar att AHP bygger på additiv nyttofunktion vilket döljs för användare av programvaror utvecklade för AHP. Vidare belyses andra drag i AHPs behandling av indata, drag som i flera fall döljs för användaren.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study was to implement an energy analysis and environmental evaluation of the property Hemsta 12:16 in Gävle. Based on two different methods, Energy Balance calculation and Environmental Building, the result of the property's energy use, energy performance and environmental impacts are presented. Except that, measures to reduce final energy consumption are presented.

          The proposed measures can reduce energy usage by 100 400 kWh / year, which represents a decrease of 18% of the present energy usage. This would represent a total savings of 63 000 SEK per year. In addition, the environmental performance is improved by adopting the suggested measures.

I den efterföljande kvantitativa delen låg dessa beskrivningar sedan som grund i de tester som gjordes för att undersöka hur lagens form påverkar resultatet i den kommande matchen. Studien har gjorts utifrån ett beslutsanalytiskt perspektiv.

    Det framkom att det framför allt är lagens poäng och målskillnad i de senaste spelade matcherna som ligger till grund för beskrivningarna av form. Detta ledde i den kvantitativa studien till att lagens genomsnittspoäng respektive genomsnittsmålskillnad från de senaste 2, 4, 6, 8 och 10 matcherna, samt uppdelat på lagens hemma- och bortamatcher separat, testades.

    Lagens form (så som den definierades) visade sig ha en väldigt begränsad påverkan på kommande matchers resultat både då alla lagens matcher inkluderades och när matcherna delades upp utifrån hemma- och bortaspel.

    Formen ger en viss indikation på utfallen i de kommande matchernas utfall men inte i större utsträckning an vad andra tidigare spelade matchers resultat visade sig ha. Att lag som har vunnit sina senaste matcher har större sannolikhet att vinna en kommande match beror således inte på att de presterat bra i just lagets senaste matcher utan därför att laget sannolikt har en hög förmåga i och med dessa tidigare prestationer. Just de senaste matcherna för laget bör därför inte ges någon större vikt än andra tidigare spelade matcher i en beslutssituation inför ett spel på en kommande match.

    In addition to transport within the business, stock management is one of the largest expenses in the supply chain. Within stock management the picking process takes place. It's important that this process works well because many other factors depends on the picking being efficient. Making the picking process more efficient is an extensive process and requires investment to be completed. However, investments are necessary to reduce management costs. This can be done by, among other things, redesigning the picking process, using new equipment, changing layouts or automating processes. This study will build upon earlier research and contribute with a new angle of incidencein order to fill the gap regarding streamlining the picking process in the laundry business. The purpose of the study is to investigate and contribute with layout ideas as well as working methods on how laundry companies can go from batch-picking to stock to picking directly towards customer orders. The aim of the study is to develop solutions that, in application, can lead to the efficiency of the picking process in the form of reduced transport distances, reduced labor demand and more utilization of storage space at the lowest possible investment cost. The study was carried out at Berendsen in Ockelbo and will be defined to study their flow for flat goods in the care industry, but will also take flat goods in the hotel industry into account when designing the layout proposals as they occupy a large part of the storage space. The study was initiated by creating an analysis of the current situation that was completed to further investigate the picking process. The analysis was done through observations and interviews with employees who had relevant knowledge in the area. Based on the current situation, some problems with the picking process were identified. The identified problems were random assorting, insufficient conveyor belts, double handling in the picking process, unused storage space and lack of storage marking. The solution proposals will be based on a requirement specification based on previous theory and a discussion with Berendsen's management. The proposals made on the basis of the identified problems are a new process flow diagram, conveyor belt proposals and a layout with suitable working methods. This study concludes that laundry, based on the proposed solutions can go from batch-picking to storage to instead pick directly to customer orders by streamlining their picking process.

    Denna uppsats behandlar ett beslutsproblem i ett stort högteknologiskt företag, nämligen att prioritera mellan investeringar i utvecklingsprojekt för produkter. Dessa projekt har två mål, att utveckla funktionaliteten eller att minska driftskostnaderna för produkterna. Företaget anser att dessa mål är svåra att uppnå samtidigt och att en ökning av funktionaliteten får till följd att driftskostnaderna stiger. Företaget vill veta den optimala fördelningen av investeringar mellan att utveckla funktionaliteten och att minska driftskostnaderna.

    En modell utvecklas för att representera dessa fenomen. Prognosticerade värden används i modellen vilket gör business case till ett centralt begrepp, vilket redogörs utförligt för. För att lösa problemet behövs data över flera år men enbart data för ett år finns att tillgå, därför kan inte en optimal fördelning över flera år bestämmas. Värden från det aktuella året appliceras och resultatet visar på att oavsett om företaget investerar i att utveckla funktionaliteten och minska driftskostnaderna, så minskar driftskostnaderna. Det genomförs ett försök till att kompensera för avsaknaden av data över flera år. Resultatet av detta stämmer endast delvis överens med vad som förväntas och ingen exakt slutsats kan dras.

    I den avslutande diskussionen behandlas processen för modellbyggande relativt resultatet. Det visar sig att frågan troligen är felställd utifrån det data som tillhandahållits. Vad som går att mäta respektive inte går att mäta diskuteras, samt vem som gör bedömningar och fattar beslut för investeringarna. Beslutsfattarnas expertkunskaper behandlas tillsammans med snedvridningars inverkan på beslut.

    Ett fokus på business case, och framställningen och användningen av dem, vore värdefullt för att se hur det kan förbättras. En diskussion av möjligheter till fortsatta studier återfinns till sist.

    Frågeställningen gäller ett specifikt företag men lärdomarna kan förhoppningsvis vara av mer allmänt intresse.
