    Abstract [en]

For district heating companies it is extremely important that the heat they produce is utilized as efficiently as possible by their customers. However, there are a lot of problems with customers heat exchangers, which create obstacles to this goal. The heat exchangers tend to send a certain amount of uncooled water back to the district heating plant. Round passages and drain valves are other examples of problem areas in a district heating network.

Bollnäs Energi AB wants to review how the district heating network and production facility in Bollnäs would be affected economically and environmentally if the return temperature dropped. What primarily is dealt with in this report is how it would affect the flue gas condenser.

Flue gas condensation is when the amount of energy that has been used to produce steam by the moisture in the fuel during combustion again becomes liquid. This amount of energy is being utilized by heat exchanging it with the district heating network return line. It is simplistic to say that the lower the return temperature, the higher the effect output will be made possible from the flue gas condenser.

If 1 MWh of energy is extracted from the flue gas condenser, that is 1 MWh less that needs to be burned in the company's boilers. If there are several boilers running simultaneously operated with different fuels, it is the fuel that has the highest cost that will be saved into. However, it can cause problems when the boiler is loaded into a cogeneration unit, ie, that it produces both heat and electricity, because even electricity production will then be reduced.

Data has been collected from the company's logs and a simulated reduction in the return temperature has been made. This has demonstrated that lowering the return temperature by one degree would lead to a saving of approximately 442 000 SEK per year.

When this "free energy" comes from flue gas condenser instead from waste or oil combustion so it also becomes a major environmental gain. Therefore, the amount of energy from the flue gas condensation was compared with if the same amount of energy would have been produced by burning waste or oil. The calculations show that the same reduction as above would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 378 and 762 tonnes per year respectively.

Hur motiveras beviljade insatser inom socialt arbete?: En kvalitativ studie om en fiktiv familjs beviljade insatser i Hudiksvalls kommun2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Research shows that people with complex social problems often require services from several different divisions and/or organizations of the social services in order to cover all of family’s needs. However, when it comes to cooperation between these divisions and/or organizations, disagreements and structural differences in addressing social problems can lead to people ‘falling through the cracks.’ Coordinated services is a part of legislation in both the Social Services and Healthcare laws of Sweden since 2010 and is to be used as a guideline when there is a need for internal and/or external cooperation between several organizations. The purpose of this study is to examine how cooperation between different divisions within the social services works today as well as the process of how services are granted by different divisions, how granted services are then defended by the division which grants them and how differences in how case workers organize the investigation process can impact outcome in granted services. To complete  this study, two focus groups, compiled of representatives from different divisions of the social services, were interviewed regarding a fictive family.  The results of this study appear to be consistent with previous research showing that cooperation is crucial when it comes to working with individuals/families with complex needs. At the same time, the results shows that cooperation between organizations and divisions doesn’t always work as it should. This study reveals differences between the two focus groups concerning the number of granted services recommended and the explanations given for granting (or not granting) certain services.  The focus groups also differed concerning the extent to which case workers decisions are impacted by factors outside the family such as money, the organization’s budget and politics. Even when internal cooperation within the city government succeeds, both focus groups highlight an even greater need for development of cooperation between external organizations.

Etikundervisningen i grundskolan1993Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Projektet Sandvargen – när två plus två blir fem2018Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this essay is to investigate preconditions for working with basic morals and valueswith the help of fiction literature in Swedish school. The subject of Swedish language and literature studies is in focus. The project reflects on the choice of literature made by three largest community college libraries in Gavleborg. The analysis is narrowed to investigate the variety of the authors with different ethnic backgrounds, when it concerns fiction literature available in the choisen college libraries. Several teachers and their classes have also taken part in an additional survey in order to contribute to a deeper discussion and a wider personal perspective on the theoretical foundings. The results are discussed with the help of theories on development of cultural identity at school, history of educational development in Sweden and the existing directives from Swedish Educational Department Skolverket.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this essay is to find some of the main developing tendencies in the advertisement genre during the period of 1930-2000. The analysis is based on three examples of Gevalia cinema and TV-advertisement. Research findings are the result of using theories from different but relevant sciences, which are media, linguistics and rhetoric. Media studies help to explain the influence of the society and technology development on the advertising business. Linguistics and rhetoric give the main methods and terminology for the basic as well as comparing analyses of the three advertisements in question. Results show unexpectedly homogeneous and strong development tendencies in both the visual product representation and the persuasive ability of the advertisement during the analysed period.

Strategic Interaction in Radio Interview Discourse2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The study is focused on the interactional strategies used by interviewees in radio discourse, which are face-saving, relationship-securing and cooperative strategies. The interviewees’ speech is analysed according to their use of the selected discourse operators, which are the hedge you know, the personal pronoun you, personal address as well as greeting questions, information-seeking, reassuring and tag-questions. The results turned out to be almost similar to previous research. The face-saving strategy is shown to be male-dominant, while the relationship-securing and the cooperative strategies proved to have female dominance. The results are contrasted and reviewed by using two different kinds of normalization. The normalization is done both according to the percentage of the selected items and the percentage of the space used for every selected item and strategy.

    Abstract [en]

The study was a quantitative cross-sectional study which aimed at investigating college students’ eating habits in relation to the Swedish food agency dietary recommendations. The likely factors associated with eating habits and attitudes towards dietary recommendations were also investigated. Non probability sampling method was used giving rise to convinient study sample of 51 individuals (41 women and 11 men) ages 19 to 37. The participants were part of four different types of educations, Care and health, Economy, Engineering, computering and societal planning and Culture and media. About 82% were familiar with at least one of the Swedish food agency dietary recommendations. Although none of the respondents ate completely according to the dietary guidelines, most ate according to one or several of the guidelines. Factors such as age and gender were associated to eating habits although they did not reach statistic significance. About 23, 5% of those familiar with the recommendations have a negative attitude towards them compared to 55% with positive attitude. 12% of the participants claim to have tried eating healthier in the past but failed. The discussion deals with possible implications of these findings for future intervention, the strengths and weaknesses of the study are also discussed.

Mot en grön framtid: Ett examensarbete där designprocessen använts för att öka barnfamiljers konsumtion av vegetarisk mat2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 15 credits / 22,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to describe the meaning of individual care according to Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment programs (NIDCAP) to the early born child. The care around the early born child has shown a big importance. NIDCAP incorporates many care aspects that give structure for an individual tailored care. A fast care planning within three days and night after the birth according to NIDCAP has a positive effect for the cognitive development. The early child has showed that the surroundings environment has an important role for their development. To support the early born child´s development thus the brain can mature in its rate to achieve self-check and to handle it sensory rise to respect the early born child on the basis of their maturity's degree is the goal of NIDCAP model. Through reducing sounds and light levels on the incubator room has it been seen that the early born child can few a better control on its new life. It is important that the nurse makes the parents believe on them self and to actively attend the care, that they dare to be alone with the child. Focus on individual care according to NIDCAP model is to support the parents to understand the early born child's neurodevelopment. If the nurse creates a good relationship with the parents, creates a better condition to developing parent role.

Kundnöjdhet ur en kunskapsbaserad serviceorganisations perspektiv2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The objectives of this research we have examined how the people in a knowledge-based service organization relate to the concept “customer satisfaction”. Our purpose was to evaluate if we could find resemblances or differences among people whit different positions in the organization. The research is empery-driven, which means that the theory chapter will not be central in this research presentation in other means than supporting our argumentation. We have used an exploratory research method with the purpose to find issues concerning customer satisfaction I service organizations that are up to date. Our empirical study was carried out in Swedbank. The data was collected from ten interviews whit people that worked at Swedbank. The concluding remark from this essay is that service positioning is commonly trusted and used strategy. We are questioning if there are situations when customers are not profitable. We have also come to the conclusion that there are different motivations for the employees to satisfy the customers. By examining these we think the companies can be helped in motivating the employees. We propose a client based course of action to motivate the employees. We also propose a variation of this method that also considers the employees wellbeing. We alert service organizations not to forget to be active and trying to find new customers. We also mark upon a gap in the theories that concerns exciding customer expectations. We argue that there has to be a limit. We also encourage findings of new methods for vertical communication within the organization.

This research has contributed with an increased understanding of what factors that motivates the people in a knowledge-based service organization to trying to satisfy the customers.

We also want this research to enlighten the possibilities whit client control because we think this method has a great potential. We also wish that this essay will contribute to further research that can help the companies to motivate their employees to be even better at satisfying their customers.

Förskolebarns samspel i skapande verksamhet2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that primarily affects children. It is one of Sweden's most commonly occurring diseases. Which means that approximately 700 children between the ages of 0–15 years are affected annually. The cause of type 1 diabetes is still unknown to this date.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the family's impact of having a child (0–18 years) with type 1 diabetes as well as describing the groups in the articles.Method: A literature study with a descriptive design. The search for articles that were used were conducted in Cinahl where the authors found 11 articles; nine with a qualitative approach and two with a quantitative approach. Both authors reviewed the articles objectively.Main result: The results showed that the parents were adversely affected by the child's disease. The parents had a great concern of the child's misery. It was mainly the mothers who suffered, while the father was not aware at the same level. The mothers suffered from physical, mental, emotional, social and cognitive negative feelings. The siblings of the affected child felt outside and forgotten by the parents. Conclusion: All family members are affected by a family member having diabetes type 1. Both positive and negative feelings can occur within the family. The most common feelings that the parents experienced when the child is given type 1 diabetes is stress and anxiety. While the siblings of the children felt forgotten and lonely.

    Abstract [en]

Background; The purpose was to investigate BMI, fast-food consumption, soft drink intake, media use among adolescent in ninth grade and if there was a correlation between fast-food consumption and media use. Method; The present study was a part of the project "Food and Health 2007".  Through a quantitative method 359 adolescents in ninth grade (182 boys, 177 girls) in ten random selected schools in a county in central Sweden answered questions through surveys. Result; The boys' BMI was on average 21 and for girls 20.4 and the majority of the youths were of normal weight. Just over a third of young people ate fast food and french fries more than two to three times a month. About a third of young people drank soda once a week and a fifth reported that they drank soft drinks two to three times per week. The majority of young people watched TV between one to three hours per day and a majority declared they never used video games. More than half spend two to three hours or more per day at the computer. A correlation was found between fast food consumption and media usage. Conclusion; Youth of this study had a normal BMI and a relatively good diet, but a higher soft drink consumption. The group of overweight/obese drank soft drinks more than those who were underweight but both groups consumed fast food less often. Computer use was relatively high among young people but they almost never played video games. A positive significant correlation was found between fast food consumption and media usage.

    Abstract [sv]

Working conditions and musculoskeletal disorders in flight baggage handling2017Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Introduction: Baggage handling is considered to be a heavy manual handling job including biomechanical exposures suspected of increasing the risk for musculoskeletal disorders. Aims: To document low back pain (LBP), shoulder pain (SP), and physical and psychosocial factors in baggage handlers, and to evaluate the implementation of an ergonomic intervention aiming to increase the use of loading assist devices. Methods: A questionnaire was utilized to characterize pain and psychosocial work conditions in 525 baggage handlers. The postures of 55 baggage handlers during 114 shifts were measured using inclinometry, half shift video-recordings were made for subsequent task analysis, and the number of aircraft handled was registered. Associations for psychosocial and biomechanical exposures with pain were assessed using regression analyses. An ergonomic intervention was implemented and evaluated using questionnaires and repeated interviews. Feasibility, intermediate outcomes, barriers and facilitators were assessed. Results: The prevalence rates of reported LBP and SP were 70% and 60%, respectively. Pain interfering with work (LBP - 30% and SP - 18%) and high pain intensity (LBP - 34% and SP - 28%) were associated with poor psychosocial working conditions. Extreme postures with arms elevated >60° occurred for 6.4% of the total time, and in trunk flexion >60° for 2.1% total time. In contrast, 71% of the total time was spent in a neutral trunk posture. The 90th percentile trunk forward flexion was 34.1°.  Daily shoulder pain increased in approximately one-third of all shifts and was positively associated with extreme work posture and the number of aircraft handled; this association was modified by influence and support. The intervention was delivered as planned, and dose received and satisfaction were rated as high. Motivated trainees facilitated implementation while lack of manager support, opportunities to observe and practice behaviors, follow-up activities, staff reduction, and job insecurity were barriers. Conclusion: The high prevalence rates of LBP and SP in baggage handlers were associated with psychosocial exposures, and daily shoulder pain was associated with higher biomechanical exposure. Barriers to implementation can be minimized by recruiting motivated trainees, securing strong organizational support, and carrying out follow-up activities.

Hälsoeffekter och förebyggande arbete vid vibrationsexponering i saneringsföretag2013Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Daily shoulder pain among flight baggage handlers and its association with work tasks and upper arm postures on the same day2017In: Annals of Occupational Hygiene, ISSN 0003-4878, E-ISSN 1475-3162, Vol. 61, no 9, p. 1145-1153Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objectives: This study of flight baggage handlers aimed at examining the extent to which shoulder pain developed during single work shifts, and whether a possible development was associated with biomechanical exposures and psychosocial factors during the same shift.

Methods: Data were collected during, in total, 82 work shifts in 44 workers. Right and left shoulder pain intensity was rated just before and just after the shift (VAS scale 0-100 mm). Objective data on time in extreme and time in neutral upper arm postures were obtained for the full shift using accelerometers, and the baggage handlers registered the number of aircrafts handled in a diary. During half of the shift, workers were recorded on video for subsequent task analysis of baggage handling. Influence at work and support from colleagues were measured by use of Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ). Associations between exposures and the increase in pain intensity during the shift (daily pain) were analysed for the right and left shoulder separately using Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE).

Results: Daily pain was observed in approximately one third of all shifts.  It was significantly associated with the number of aircrafts handled for both the right and left shoulder. In multivariate models including both biomechanical exposures and the psychosocial factors influence at work and support from colleagues, aircrafts handled was still significantly associated with daily pain in both shoulders, and so was influence and support, however in opposite directions.

Conclusions: Daily pain was, in general, associated with biomechanical exposures during the same shift and with general influence and support in the job. In an effort to reduce pain among flight baggage handlers, it may therefore be justified to consider a reduction of biomechanical exposures during handling of aircrafts, combined with due attention to psychosocial factors at work.

    "Piloten" - Flygplanslastarprojektet2010Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Skadefria cargo- och flygplanslastare - slutrapport2012Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Evaluation of an ergonomic intervention in Swedish flight baggage handlers2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: Flight baggage handling is a worldwide occupation where baggage and cargo is sorted, loaded and unloaded on and off aircrafts. With the ultimate purpose of reducing and preventing musculoskeletal disorders among flight baggage handlers in Sweden, the Vocational Training and Working Environment Council (TYA) - a council formed by employers and unions in the Swedish transportation sector – initiated and implemented a project (2010-2012). This project revealed that ergonomics equipment was not used adequately, and this was considered a major factor of concern. Therefore, a training program was initiated 2014 in one handling company, aiming to improve ergonomics, behavior and attitudes. We evaluated the implementation process with regard to process items, intermediate outcomes, barriers and facilitators; for the purpose of gaining knowledge that could facilitate successful implementation in other handling companies. Methods: A mixed methods design was applied, based on qualitative and quantitative data. We evaluated six process items, recruitment, context, reach, dose delivered, dose received and satisfaction; intermediate outcomes of the intervention; skills, confidence and behaviour in the workforce; barriers and facilitators for successful implementation. Data was retrieved using company data, course evaluations, web questionnaires, and telephone interviews with company ‘observers’ and key persons. Preliminary results: The implementation process was judged to be feasible with regard to some of the process items. According to the informants, work place behaviour related to use of equipment had, however, not changed after the training period. Reported barriers were, 1) insufficient time and leader support for practicing new procedures during and after the training, 2) simultaneous reorganization of teams and work tasks, 3) lack of follow-up of the training, which would have supported good performance according to the informants. Conclusion: The implementation process was hampered by barriers, some of which could be addressed in future ergonomics training programs in other baggage handling companies.

    Abstract [en]

Objective: To conduct a process evaluation of the implementation of an ergonomics training program aimed at increasing the use of loading assist devices in flight baggage handling.

Methods: Feasibility (recruitment, reach, context, dose delivered, dose received, satisfaction); intermediate outcomes (skills, confidence and behaviors); and barriers and facilitators of the training intervention were assessed by qualitative and quantitative methods.

Results: Implementation proved feasible regarding dose delivered, dose received and satisfaction. Confidence among participants in the training program in using and talking about devices, observed use of devices among colleagues, and internal feedback on work behavior increased significantly (p<0.01). Main facilitators were self-efficacy, motivation, and perceived utility of training among the trainees. Barriers included lack of peer support, opportunities to observe and practice behaviors, and follow-up activities; as well as staff reduction and job insecurity.

Conclusions: In identifying important barriers and facilitators for a successful outcome, our study can help supporting the effectiveness of future interventions. Our results show that barriers caused by organizational changes may likely be alleviated by recruiting motivated trainees and securing strong organizational support for the implementation.

Psychosocial work factors and musculoskeletal pain: a cross-sectional study among Swedish flight baggage handlers2015In: BioMed Research International, ISSN 2314-6133, E-ISSN 2314-6141, Vol. 2015, article id 798042Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objective. Flight baggage handlers sort and load luggage to airplanes. This study aimed at investigating associations between psychosocial exposures and low back and shoulder musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among Swedish flight baggage handlers.

Methods. A questionnaire addressing MSDs (Standardized Nordic Questionnaire) and psychosocial factors (Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire, COPSOQ) was answered by 525 baggage handlers in six Swedish airports.

Results. Low back (LBP) and shoulder pain (SP) was reported by 70% and 60%, respectively. Pain was reported to interfere with work (PIW) by 30% (low back) and 18% (shoulders), and intense pain (PINT) occurred in 34% and 28% of the population. Quality of leadership was the most dissatisfying psychosocial factor, while the most positive was social community at work. Low ratings in the combined domain Work organization and job content were significantly associated with PIW in both low back and shoulders (Adjusted Hazard Ratios 3.65 (95% CI 1.67-7.99) and 2.68 (1.09-6.61)) while lower ratings in the domain Interpersonal relations and leadership were associated with PIW LBP (HR 2.18 (1.06-4.49)) and PINT LBP and SP (HRs 1.95 (1.05-3.65) and 2.11 (1.08-4.12)).

Conclusion. Severity of pain among flight baggage handlers was associated with psychosocial factors at work, suggesting that they may be a relevant target for intervention in this occupation.

Psychosocial work factors and musculoskeletal pain among Swedish flight baggage handlers2015In: Proceedings of the 19th Triennial Congress of the International Ergonomics Association, Melbourne, 9-14 August 2015 / [ed] Gitte Lindgaard & Dave Moore, 2015Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Flight baggage handlers are employed by handling companies engaged in sorting, loading and unloading luggage, cargo and mail, so called ramp service work. After check-in, luggage are transported through a sorting area and further out to the ramp. This transportation involves manual handling by baggage handlers at several stages, using conveyor belts, carts and trucks for transport. In addition to these tasks, baggage handlers are also engaged in communicating with air traffic controllers directing air traffic on the ground, towing aircrafts to gates and serving them with auxiliary power units, brakes and light. Baggage handling services are similar in all larger airports, and so baggage handlers perform similar tasks all over the world. In Sweden the handlers’ union claimed a high prevalence of low back and shoulder pain and a dissatisfying psychosocial work environment, but systematically collected empirical data were not available, and the literature was surprisingly sparse, considering that the occupation is global. Thus, a comprehensive project initiated by the Vocational Training and Working Environment Council, TYA, in Sweden - a council formed by employers’ and employees’ organizations in the transportation sector -was conducted at 14 handling companies in six Swedish airports between 2010 and 2012. The project aimed to document the physical and psychosocial work environment and to contribute to the development of ergonomic interventions within this occupation, which could, eventually, lead to better health among the employees. The present study was part of this project, in aiming at documenting psychosocial exposures and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in the flight baggage handler population, and at determining possible associations between exposures and disorders.

Physical and psychosocial work conditions among baggage handlers in six Swedish airports2012Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Introduction

Flight baggage handlers are mainly engaged in sorting luggage or cargo, loading and unloading it to and from the airplanes. The Vocational Training and Working Environment Council, TYA - formed by employer’s and employee’s organizations in the transportation sector - initiated a scientific study in 2009 to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and their suspected determinants in six Swedish airports involving a total of about 1000 handlers in 14 cargo- and handling companies. Encouraged by an initial literature review, the present field study was designed to contain qualitative, questionnaire-based, and observational surveys of working conditions, as well as extensive direct measurements of postures using full-shift inclinometry. This paper reports the design and results of the questionnaire part of the study.

    Method

All baggage handlers working at least half-time (n=1044) were encouraged to fill in an extensive questionnaire handed out at the workplace by a research team member. In general the researcher collected the questionnaires at the same occasion. The questionnaire addressed general health, work capacity and physical exposures in relevant handling tasks. It also included a modified version of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ), the Nordic Council of Minister’s Questionnaire (NMQ) on disorders, and the SOFI-questionnaire measuring perceived fatigue.

    Results

The response rate was 73%. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in the back, shoulders and wrists during the last 12 months was 70%, 60% and 45%. Positive effects of devices used for reducing perceived physical load were confirmed. The handlers expressed a low confidence in the leadership, and insufficient feedback, information and influence at work. Fatigue particularly occurred in the dimensions lack of energy and physical discomfort.

    Discussion

The observed prevalence of low back pain (70%) is high, and in parity with results among nurses in Sweden (64%; Josephson et al. 1997) and China (56%; Smith et al. 2004). Further examination of questionnaires, interviews and direct posture measurements will identify determinants to consider for intervention to reduce the prevalence of disorders among the baggage handlers.

Healthy work - healthy business? A survey of work environment improvements and profitability among small and medium enterprises2010Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim was to investigate how Swedish small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the manufacturing industry carry out work environment improvements, and to study if managers consider profitability to be associated with issues in the work environment. Workplace observations and interviews (n=60) with company managers were carried out. Forty-five enterprises were affiliated with an occupational health service, typically in order to get quick access to health care, rather than getting help planning and implementing changes. Fifty-eight managers believed that healthy work environments would have at least some positive effect on company profitability. Incentives for work environment improvements were external, individual and organizational and varied between companies of different sizes. External requirements from The Swedish Work Environment Authority and from established or potential customers were prioritized incentives in SMEs with < 50 employees. Organizational and individual incentives such as incident- and accident reports, productivity, health and sick-leave were prioritized in SMEs with >50 employees. Irrespective of company size, well-being among work-force was consistently mentioned as an important factor for successful business. Small companies urged quick decisions and actions while medium companies had more planned, systematic and organized work environment activities. Deliberate work environment improvements for increased profitability were for instance, changes to eliminate risks, reduce manual work and resolve planning and coordination problems in production that led to stress.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to get the cadastral procedure for condominiums to become more affordable. The aims of the study is to examine how the number of condominiums, the number of joint facilities and the number of joint property units that are formed in a condominium cadastral procedure in Sweden influences the cadastral procedure cost. To get an overall perspective the study also explores how the chosen forms of co-operation have worked out in association management.

A condominium is a type of three-dimensional property unit, which may only contain one residence.  This form of property formation has been allowed in Sweden since 1 May 2009.  At the end of 2014 less than 1000 condominiums had been formed despite the legislator’s expectations for 3000-5000 condominiums a year. The property unit can have access to necessary facilities, not available within the property boundaries, by establishing joint facilities or form joint property units. This co-operation is not only an important factor for a functional three-dimensional property ownership, but also a requirement from the legislator.

To achieve the aims a quantitative study, where cadastral dossiers from condominium cadastral procedures were examined, and a qualitative interview with four selected joint property association was made.

The result from the study of cadastral dossiers showed a connection between the condominium cadastral procedure cost and how many condominiums that was formed in the cadastral procedure. However, the study does not find any connection that shows neither the number of established joint facilities nor the number of joint property units affects the cost. The interview results showed that the joint property associations are satisfied with the association management, even if one of interviewed joint property associations had preferred an even simpler joint facility division.

The cadastral procedure cost has varied considerably between various cadastral procedures. This can make the cadastral procedure costs difficult to calculate for someone planning to form condominiums. For affordable cadastral procedure costs when condominiums are formed the conclusion is to form a big amount of condominiums. The joint property associations opinion of what is a simple and obvious association management differs, that’s why the co-operation should be modified by the interested parties’ requests.

    Abstract [sv]

Automatiserad mönsterigenkänning av stenmurar2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Automated pattern recognition of stone walls, within both point cloud and image processing, can help identify previously inaccessible areas than with only image pro-cessing. This is important as stone walls are biotopes and serve as structures and have ecological functions for both plants and animals. An automated pattern recog-nition can also benefit Sweden with the fulfillment of the national environmental quality objectives, as well as several commitments from the EU which promote the preservation of biological diversity and cultural heritage. However, conventional airborne laser scanners, via airplanes, have not had a sufficiently high point density and penetration of dense forests. This study therefore aims to use an improved tech-nology in Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), where data is collected from Sin-gle Photon LiDAR (SPL). Then, the automated pattern recognition will be used to discover stone walls in varied terrain.

After the evaluation, two out of five stone walls were identified, one of which had rendered 99.99% of the target area and the other had a 75% target area, although both also displayed one false hit outside of the desired area. The remaining missing area, as well as the other stone walls, could not be identified because of nearby fac-tors such as shrubbery and trees, but even though the method selection for this study did not provide a 100% match on all stone walls, the data from the SPL tech-nology is still useful for pattern recognition with its point density and penetration. The conclusion of this work is that a point cloud filtering must be improved, if not adapted for each area of stone walls, to create better areas of interest before image processing of segmentation and pattern recognition can be implemented. However, the study shows that a combination of point cloud and image processing for auto-matic pattern recognition is a useful way of identifying stone walls.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper is to examine whether there is a difference between the respondent groups preparers and non-preparers position in IASBs question if a reversal of previously impaired goodwill should be prohibited. The background is an exposure draft sent out by the IASB and we examine the answers, in form of comment letters, sent in by the respondents to reach our purpose. Our method is positivistic in the sense that we study already existing theories when we create our hypothesis which gives our assumption about how the result of the respondent’s answers will be. Our data, which we have collected from the comment letters, is qualitative secondary data. When we draw our conclusions we’re using both empirics and logics, this method characterises the hypothetic-deductive method.

The theory we studied to reach our hypothesis mainly consisted of positive accounting theory, the agency theory and utility maximising theory. But we also studied existing laws, accounting standards and the special nature of goodwill as an asset to create a better understanding of how the different respondent groups would answer the question.

The result of our research showed us that more non-preparers than preparers supported IASBs proposition, but the difference between the groups was not large enough to generalize our result and we could not statistically establish any relation with help from our Chi2 test. The result that preparers to a large extent agreed with IASB is interesting because it doesn’t correspond with the theories about positive accounting theory, agency theory and the theory about utilising individuals that we have studied. From the result a few questions arise. Could it be that preparers aren’t as utilising as the theory says? Another theory that could answer this question is the stewardship theory.

Our conclusion after studying and analysing our theory and research results is that there in fact is a difference between the respondent groups preparers and non-preparers attitude towards IASBs proposal, even if the difference is smaller than we first thought.

Högstadieelevers syn på religionsämnet2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]
