    Abstract [en]

    Map generalization is a process of producing maps at different levels of detail by retaining essential properties of the underlying geographic space. In this paper, we explore how the map generalization process can be guided by the underlying scaling of geographic space. The scaling of geographic space refers to the fact that in a geographic space small things are far more common than large ones. In the corresponding rank-size distribution, this scaling property is characterized by a heavy tailed distribution such as a power law, lognormal, or exponential function. In essence, any heavy tailed distribution consists of the head of the distribution (with a low percentage of vital or large things) and the tail of the distribution (with a high percentage of trivial or small things). Importantly, the low and high percentages constitute an imbalanced contrast, e.g., 20 versus 80. We suggest that map generalization is to retain the objects in the head and to eliminate or aggregate those in the tail. We applied this selection rule or principle to three generalization experiments, and found that the scaling of geographic space indeed underlies map generalization. We further relate the universal rule to T\"opfer's radical law (or trained cartographers' decision making in general), and illustrate several advantages of the universal rule.     Abstract [en]

    This paper introduces a new concept of least community that is as homogeneous as a random graph, and develops a new community detection algorithm from the perspective of homogeneity or heterogeneity. Based on this concept, we adopt head/tail breaks-a newly developed classification scheme for data with a heavy-tailed distribution-and rely on edge betweenness given its heavy-tailed distribution to iteratively partition a network into many heterogeneous and homogeneous communities. Surprisingly, the derived communities for any self-organized and/or self-evolved large networks demonstrate very striking power laws, implying that there are far more small communities than large ones. This notion of far more small things than large ones constitutes a new fundamental way of thinking for community detection. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

    Abstract [en]

    A fractal bears a complex structure that is reflected in a scaling hierarchy, indicating that there are far more small things than large ones. This scaling hierarchy can be effectively derived using head/tail breaks—a clustering and visualization tool for data with a heavy-tailed distribution—and quantified by a head/tail breaks-induced integer, called ht-index, indicating the number of clusters or hierarchical levels. However, this integral ht-index has been found to be less precise for many fractals at their different phrases of development. This paper refines the ht-index as a fraction to measure the scaling hierarchy of a fractal more precisely within a coherent whole and further assigns a fractional ht-index—the fht-index—to an individual data value of a data series that represents the fractal. We developed two case studies to demonstrate the advantages of the fht-index, in comparison with the ht-index. We found that the fractional ht-index or fractional hierarchy in general can help characterize a fractal set or pattern in a much more precise manner. The index may help create intermediate map scales between two consecutive map scales.

    Abstract [en]

    This article examines the former location-based social medium Brightkite, over its three-year life span, based on the concept of natural cities. The term natural cities refers to spatially clustered geographic events, such as the agglomerated patches aggregated from individual social media users' locations. We applied the head/tail division rule to derive natural cities, based on the fact that there are far more low-density areas than high-density areas on the Earth's surface. More specifically, we generated a triangulated irregular network, made up of individual unique user locations, and then categorized small triangles (smaller than an average) as natural cities for the United States (mainland) on a monthly basis. The concept of natural cities provides a powerful means to develop new insights into the evolution of real cities, because there are virtually no data available to track the history of cities across their entire life spans and at very fine spatial and temporal scales. Therefore, natural cities can act as a good proxy of real cities, in the sense of understanding underlying interactions, at a global level, rather than of predicting cities, at an individual level. Apart from the data produced and the contributed methods, we established new insights into the structure and dynamics of natural cities; for example, the idea that natural cities evolve in nonlinear manners at both spatial and temporal dimensions.

    Abstract [en]

    Geographic space demonstrates scaling or hierarchy, implying that there are far more small things than large ones. The scaling pattern of geographic space, if visualized properly (i.e., based on the head/tail breaks classification), can evoke a sense of beauty. This is our central argument. This beauty is a new type of aesthetic at a deeper structural level and differs in essence from an intuitive sense of harmony, perceived in terms of color, shape, texture, and ratio. This new kind of beauty was initially defined and discovered by Christopher Alexander, and promoted in his master work The Nature of Order. To paraphrase Mandelbrot, this is beauty for the sake of science rather than for art's sake or for the sake of commerce. Throughout the article, we attempt to argue and illustrate that the scaling of geographic space possesses this new kind of beauty, which has a positive impact on human well-being. The article further draws on the previous work of Nikos Salingaros and Richard Taylor on the beauty in architecture and arts to support our argument.

    Abstract [en]

    Although geographic features, such as mountains and coastlines, are fractal, some studies have claimed that the fractal property is not universal. This claim, which is dubious, is mainly attributed to the strict definition of fractal dimension as a measure or index for characterizing the complexity of fractals. In this article, we propose an alternative, ht-index, to quantify the fractal or scaling structure of geographic features. A geographic feature has ht-index (h) if the pattern of far more small things than large ones recurs (h - 1) times at different scales. The higher the ht-index, the more complex the geographic feature. We conduct three case studies to illustrate how the computed ht-indexes capture the complexity of different geographic features. We further discuss how ht-index is complementary to fractal dimension and elaborate on a dynamic view behind ht-index that enables better understanding of geographic forms and processes.

    Abstract [en]

    Two fundamental issues surrounding research on Zipf’s law regarding city sizes are whether and why this law holds. This paper does not deal with the latter issue with respect to why, and instead investigates whether Zipf’s law holds in a global setting, thus involving all cities around the world. Unlike previous studies, which have mainly relied on conventional census data such as populations and census-bureau-imposed definitions of cities, we adopt naturally (in terms of data speak for itself) delineated cities, or natural cities, to be more precise, in order to examine Zipf’s law. We find that Zipf’s law holds remarkably well for all natural cities at the global level, and it remains almost valid at the continental level except for Africa at certain time instants. We further examine the law at the country level, and note that Zipf’s law is violated from country to country or from time to time. This violation is mainly due to our limitations; we are limited to individual countries, or to a static view on city-size distributions. The central argument of this paper is that Zipf’s law is universal, and we therefore must use the correct scope in order to observe it. We further find Zipf’s law applied to city numbers; the number of cities in the largest country is twice as many as that in the second largest country, three times as many as that in the third largest country, and so on. These findings have profound implications for big data and the science of cities.

    The development of web mapping industry is so fast that hundreds of web mapping software products are being created each year. These products are usually parts of three solution categories: a) proprietary solutions, b) Open source solutions, or c) Web 2.0 mashup solutions. Due to the solutions’ maturity, rich functionalities and great external support, most enterprises use proprietary products to build their web mapping applications. Seldom are the latter two, named as non-proprietary solutions in this study, ever used in corporations. This study explores the suitability of non-proprietary web mapping solutions for WSP Sweden.

    Two prototype applications are developed using one Open source web mapping solution and one Web 2.0 mashup solution. Both applications attempt to accomplish similar tasks as an existing application, Stockholmshem tree inventory project, to demonstrate the functional potential of each solution. The implementation process will help to further access both prototype solutions on the basis of: a) how well they satisfy WSP’s list of demands; b) their implementation difficulty; and c) their response performances. The results indicate that both categories of non-proprietary solutions can satisfy the most important demands of WSP’s basic web mapping application. While Open source solutions are more suitable for meeting advanced demands, mashup solutions can help to quickly establish a simple application. The combinational use of both solutions is a promising alternative to the predominant ArcIMS-based proprietary solution used at WSP.

    When making a good decision, people must evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each option, and take all the alternatives into consideration. But it’s always difficult for most of us. How to make a good decision and make a smart choice becomes more and more important in our daily life. In our thesis work, we have performed a pilot study within a research program in decision analysis regarding representation of utility difference proportion matrices, with the problem of utility aggregation in view.  We have proposed a matrix representation based on a map of maps and implemented it as a Java class. We have also defined a simple measure of inconsistency between utility difference proportions, and implemented this measure as a method in the matrix class. The function of the matrix class has been verified with some simple test programs.

    Stereoscopy is a technique that can create an illusion of depth in a flat image. There are many different methods to do this, and here is explained some of the most common and popular ways, with a bigger focus on the anaglyphic method. Since stereoscopy is an old technique, the discovery of it by Charles Wheatstone is explained briefly. In Autodesk Maya 2009, a new stereoscopic plug-in was included which makes the creation of stereoscopic imagery easier. An animated project is made during the course of this research which takes advantage of and tests the functions of the new plug-in. The main purpose of the project is to create a stereoscopic movie which utilized the anaglyph stereoscopic technique. The result is rendered stereoscopic material that is edited with Adobe Premiere Pro to create anaglyphic imagery and a full color alternative using the Infitec technique.

    Physarum polycephalum (true slime mold) has recently emerged as a fascinating example of biological computation through morphogenesis. Despite being a single cell organism, experiments have observed that through its growth process, the Physarum is able to solve various minimum cost flow problems. This paper analyzes a mathematical model of the Physarum growth dynamics. We show how to encode general linear programming (LP) problems as instances of the Physarum. We prove that under the growth dynamics, the Physarum is guaranteed to converge to the optimal solution of the LP. We further derive an efficient discrete algorithm based on the Physarum model, and experimentally verify its performance on assignment problems.

    Sandvik IT Services är i behov av en webbportal för hantering och skapande av användbarhetstester av olika programvaror och tjänster. Genom  informella intervjuer angående webbportalens utformning samt en grundläggande studie  i programspråket ASP.NET skaffades förståelse och kunskap kring problemet.  Utifrån informationen skapades först en kravspecifikation där det togs upp skall-  och börkrav för webbportalen. Därefter utvecklades en databasmodell och en  sidstruktur som kontinuerligt under utvecklingen kontrollerades med utvecklare på Sandvik  IT Services för att försäkra sig om att materialet skulle bli användbart.  Med sidstrukturen medföljer även ett förslag på användargränssnitt för de olika  sidorna. Resultatet blev en design bestående av en databasmodell, kravspecifikation samt  en sidstruktur som utvecklare på Sandvik IT Services godkände. De ansåg att  denna design skulle vara till god användning vid implementation av en webbportal  förhantering och skapande av användbarhetstester av olika programvaror.

    Detta examensarbete är utfört på uppdrag av IT-kontoret och Mawik AB. Uppdraget går ut på att förbättra ett befintligt system åt ett företag som tömmer slambrunnar. Systemet detta arbete går ut på att förbättra är en mobilapplikation med operativsystemet Android, där huvudsyftet är att öka applikationens användbarhet och säkerhet. Resultatet blir i slutändan en färdig Androidapplikation som går att använda för slamtömningsföretaget. De slutsatser arbetet ger är att användbarheten går att öka markant, samt att användarfelen i applikationen går att minska.

    Att skapa animerad film är något som kan kräva mycket tid och arbete. Mer stiliserade visuella stilar kan inte bara vara estetiskt tilltalande utan även skapa mer tidseffektiva arbetsprocesser. Den här studien utforskar hur användandet av cel-shading tillsammans med ett stiliserat utseende påverkar en animeringsproduktion och dess effektivitet. Detta gjordes genom att skapa en kortfilm producerad med detta effektiva arbetssätt. Resultatet visade på att ett stiliserat utseende har möjlighet att förenkla både modellering, texturering och animering. Cel-shading kan användas på många olika sätt och kan i vissa fall förenkla detta ytterligare i viss mån, beroende hur det används. Däremot eliminerar dessa shaders alltid renderingstiderna nästan helt och i många fall även traditionell ljussättning. Kamera- och ljuseffekter går att kombinera med denna stil och kan tidseffektivt appliceras i postproduktion. Allt detta ger en betydligt snabbare arbetsprocess som kan påverka hela arbetsflödet och samtidigt ge visuellt tilltalande resultat.

    Datorgrafiken har på senare år utvecklats till en dominerande produktionsmetod inom många områden som till exempel film, spel, simulationer och visualisering. Många söker sig till grafikutbildningar i hopp om att få anställning främst inom film- eller spelindustrin. Det är en växande industri, men konkurrensen är hård och anställningskraven höga och många har svårt att etablera sig i branschen. Detta examensarbete ger via enkätundersökningar och litteratur i ämnet bilden av en bransch där det råder överskott på arbetskraft och underskott på lediga arbeten. För att förbättra konkurrensförmågan föreslås interdisciplinära utbildningar som blandar konst och teknik samt ökad specialisering, hårdare studiekrav och ökat samarbete mellan skola och företag.

    When creating materials in computer graphics, the most common method is to estimate the properties based on intuition. This seems like a flawed approach, seeing as a big part of the industry has already moved to a physically based workflow. A better method would be to observe real material properties, and use that data in the application. This research delves into the art of material creation by first explaining the theory behind the properties of materials through a literature review. The review also reveals techniques that separate and visually presents these properties to artists, giving them a better understanding of how a material behaves. Through action research, an empirical study then presents a workflow for creating photorealistic renders using data collected with these techniques. While the techniques still require subjective decisions when recreating the materials, they do help artists create more accurate renderings with less guesswork.

    Subsurface Scattering är nu för tiden väldigt populärt inom datorgrafik och används inom de flesta filmer och spel, men det är ingen enkel process för att uppnå ett bra resultat. Därmed kommer forskningen och utvecklingen fokuseras på subsurface scattering i verkligheten och inom Autodesk Maya med inbyggda renderingsmotorn mental ray. Subsurface scattering via mental ray kan lösas på flera olika sätt och nödvändig information om subsurface scattering shaders och andra noder kommer att förklaras för de metoder som känns till som lightmaps och photon maps. Det kommer även finnas en tredje metod som fokuserar på passrendering av en lightmap shader. Metoderna bevisar sedan vilken metod som anses vara den bästa för situationen man befinner sig i.

    En av de svåraste utmaningarna som ett företag står inför är jämvikten mellan användbarhet och säkerhet, så att ingen av dessa väger över och på så vis påverkar organisationen negativt. Utifrån intervjuer med anställda har användbarheten undersökts, även samtal med ansvariga inom IT-säkerhet har givit förståelse för företagets arbete inom området. I det undersökta företaget kan man se att stor tyngd läggs på säkerheten, vilket kan påverkar användbarheten för användarna. Eftersom det i nuläget saknas en utredning och ett riktigt beslutsunderlag av vilka användare som skall ha vilka behörigheter på sina datorer, ges i slutet av arbetet rekommendationer till företaget gällande användartypernas fördelning utifrån säkerhetsperspektiv och ur användarnas egen användbarhetsuppfattning.

    A coherent software environment simplifies maintenance - and using the same terminology facilitates communication and learning within the IT department.

     

    Having a mixed and complex software environment could put strain on the IT department. Applications and databases needs to be somehow cataloged in case of system failure. While mapping applications to databases using a unified terminology might seem to be a good idea from the start, but when it comes to generating a data model of interconnections based on terminology - confusion will arise. This confusion could lead to misinterpretations, which in turn could lead to incidents.

Frågor om hur företagen arbetar i sin pipeline, vad en pipeline är samt vilka mjukvaror de väljer att arbeta med för att få fram sina resultat ställs. Studien letar efter likheter och olikheter mellan olika företags sätt att arbeta, samtidigt som den undersöker ifall studenter förstår vad som pågår hos ett företag under produktion. Resultatet bevisar likheter och olikheterna inom området VFX.

    Det här examensarbetet handlar om på vilket sätt Internet/IT kan göra livet lättare för handikappade. Arbetet grundar sig på mitt intresse för teknik och vad den kan göra för nytta för både pedagoger, lärare och främst elever i särskolan.

    Jag har bl a undersökt hur Internet/IT används av elever på olika särskolor i Sverige genom att skicka ut e-mail enkäter via e-mail. Med hänsyn till lärarna på särskolorna så har jag inte publicerat vare sig namn eller skolor i arbetet. Detta beror på att jag i min frågeställning inte brytt mig om att få med detta. Det var svaren och inte de svarande som var de väsentliga för arbetet.

    Jag har också tagit del av aktuell information som jag har funnit på Internet samt information från rapporter. Den största delen av informationen kommer just från Internet eftersom den informationen är den mest aktuella.

    Själva arbetet har gått ut på att undersöka på vilket sätt de funktionshindrade kan få hjälp av Internet och informationsteknologin i sin vardag. Man skulle kunna säga att alla människor kan använda informationsteknologin och oavsett vilket handikapp man har, det gäller bara att kunna anpassa den efter människan.

    Abstract [en]

    The paper focuses onapproaches to the registration of real property rights in the case of underground or subway tunnels in different EU countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Poland, Slovenia, and Sweden. The Authors made analysis of the current way of registration of rights to subway tunnels in the chosen countries, including its effectiveness in ensuring appropriate property rights to construct and exploit tunnels. A special attention was given to limitations related to the lack of the possibility to vertically divide the space, i.e. to divide the space into layers, and to refer the ownership right to the layers. Benefits which might be achieved by the introduction of a 3D real property cadastre were pointed out. The analysis of available data concerning the geometry of subway tunnels in particular countries was presented. The authors tried to answer the question whether the accessible data concerning the geometry of subway tunnels allows to generate a 3D geospatial model of a constructed object, and to specify the space which should be determined as a 3D parcel in the 3D real property cadastre, for the purpose of registering property rights for the object (the tunnel).

    In a high-voltage direct current system (HVDC), a process is continuously recording data (e.g., voltage sampling). To access this data, the operator must frst set triggers, then wait for the transient- fault-recording (TFR) to complete, and fnally open the recorded fle for analysis. A more refned solution is required. It should allow the operator to select, add and watch the measuring points in real-time. Thus, the purpose of this thesis work is to read, process and present the samples continuously, as series in a graphical chart. Programming will be done by using iterative and incremental development. The result of this thesis work has been an executable application with a graphical user interface (GUI), able to showing the content in the buffers as a graph in a chart.

    Om man vill skapa ett realistiskt hav inom Computer Graphics är det viktigt att man har snygga övergångar till andra material. Ett exempel på detta är stränder och det är precis där fokusen på den här studien har legat. Studien gick ut på att hitta en enklare lösning på att visuellt förbättra stränder inom Computer Graphics. För att göra detta så testade två olika metoder i olika experiment. Den ena tekniken som testades var att simulera partiklar för att få fram en bättre strandlinje och de andra var att skapa en shader för att förbättra den. Resultatet var att shadern var det bästa sättet att lösa problemet på medan simuleringen var en lite för komplicerad lösning för det här problemet.

    De allra flesta sidor idag använder en så kallad fixed design där sidan är gjord för en specifik skärmstorlek. Det finns nu metoder i HTML och CSS att låta sidan forma om sig efter användarens skärmstorlek utan att använda JavaScript. Denna teknik kallas responsiv webbdesign. Syftet med detta arbete är att studera responsiv webbdesign; hur det fungerar och om det är framtiden inom webbdesign. Studien har begränsats till moderna webbläsare och moderna mobiltelefoner för att se resultatet. Metoden har varit en kvalitativ forskning med en fallstudie där en webbsida har gjorts om till responsiv design. Källorna har varit artiklar skrivna av erfarna webbdesigners samt kända forskare inom användbarhet på webbdesign. Slutsatsen är att responsiv webbdesign är ett verktyg för alla webbsidor, men främst är det användbart för mindre webbsidor där det inte är för mycket innehåll.

    Med anledning av utbildningsdepartementets förslag att införa programmering som skolämne utfördes en undersökning för att avgöra vad elever och lärare i grundskolan anser om betydelsen av programmering i grundskolan (Utbildningsdepartementet, 2015). Avsikten med undersökningen är att visa om och i så fall hur elever får kunskap genom programmering samt vilken typ av kunskap som kan erhållas. Observationer och kunskapstester genomfördes med grundskoleelever i de tidigare årskurserna. Därtill genomfördes intervjuer med barn och lärare. Resultatet av undersökningen visade att elever och lärare är positivt inställda till programmering i skolan och till de webbaserade blockprogrammeringsprogrammen Code.org och Scratch. Lärare hävdande att programmering kan förbättra elevernas förmåga att kunna lösa vardagliga problem på olika konkreta sätt, en förmåga som sedan kan användas i framtida lärosituationer och i förlängningen även under yrkesutövning. Förskollärare som använder Blue-bot-programmering i sin verksamhet menar att Blue-bot-övningarna ökar barns kunskaper och förståelse i problemlösning.

    De har idag en egen hemsida som behandlar nyheter inom organisationen och intressanta artiklar för producenter i området.

    Vår uppgift är att skapa en digital plattform för Hälsingelivs, att använda i sin utbildning, som erbjuder såväl kontakt mellan producenterna. Samt möjlighet till att hitta och ta in digitalt lagrade media i form av filmer och text.

    Rapporten går igenom tankeprocessen, planeringen och utförandet samt teoretiska och praktiska lösningar att arbeta i HTML, PHP programmering, SQL, CSS samt JavaScript för att skapa en digital mötesplats som innehåller forum, användarfunktioner, uppladdning av media, profildesign, sökfunktioner mm. Den ger även en överblick i att jobba med Google API för sökfunktion samt phpbb3-anpassning av en redan fungerande login/registreringsfunktion på den egna sidan. Rapporten går även igenom teoretiska problem gällande anpassningen till öppen källkod och implementering av externa system.

    Idag används inte vinden som en påverkande faktor i realtid i befintliga datoriserade evaukueringssystem. Detta påverkar systemet tillförlitlighet negativt. Syftet med denna studie är att påvisa vindens inverkan vid beräkning av lämpliga flyktvägar från ett område som drabbats av brand. Utifrån tidigare forskning och intervjuer av experter inom området brand, framkommer de riktlinjer som ligger till grund för denna typ av datorstöd. Utifrån dessa konstruerades en prototyp, REWA (RealTime Evacuation Wind Application), ett datoriserat stöd i evakueringssyfte där vinden är den centralt påverkande faktorn. Vinden och avståndet till vägar i närområdet är de två faktorer som används i REWA för att påvisa lämpliga flyktvägar vid evakuering. Studiens resultat påvisar att vindens föränderlighet inverkar på lämpliga flyktvägar, vilket således påvisar GIS lämplighet även i realtidslösningar. Slutligen konstateras att REWA behöver testas och utvecklas i samverkan med experter inom olika områden för att dess funktioner ska bli optimala.

    Fotorealistiska 3d-bilder används idag inom ett brett spektrum av branscher. Framställningen av denna typ av grafik kräver ofta väldigt mycket datorkraft. Vid rendering med renderingsmotorer som använder sig av raytracing algoritmer är aliasing ett medfött problem. Lösningen heter anti-aliasing som arbetar för att undvika aliasing artefakter som jagged edges eller Moiré-effekter med mera. En del av anti-aliasingprocessen är supersampling som ofta kräver mycket datorkraft. Att optimera parametrar för supersampling är därför mycket viktigt. Det är möjligt att genom optimering spara väldigt mycket datorkraft och därmed tid. Detta arbete innehåller resultat från experiment där deltagare får bedöma bilder med olika kvalité av anti-aliasing. Resultaten av dessa experiment kan användas som referens vid optimering av renderingsparametrar för anti-aliasing vid rendering med hjälp av Mental Ray.

Some emphasis on the RPG-genre has been made but the rules/guidelines proposed are adaptable to any game-genre.

    The rising popularity of indie games is researched to answer the research aim: why have indie games gained their popularity? A study of relevant literature is performed to determine if there is a definition for good game design and to find out what technological developments have helped indie games rise in fame. Relevant articles to the research aim are also discussed. To explore what developers think of indie games interviews are attempted and a survey is distributed on various online forums to find out what people like about indie games. A conclusion is reached that show people like the creative nature of indie games and that they tend to have a emphasis on gameplay over high technological graphics.

    Abstract [en]

    Time-varying geospatial data presents some specific challenges for visualization. Here, we report the results of three experiments aiming at evaluating the relative efficiency of three existing visualization techniques for a class of such data. The class chosen was that of object movement, especially the movements of vehicles in a fictitious landscape. Two different tasks were also chosen. One was to predict where three vehicles will meet in the future given a visualization of their past movement history. The second task was to estimate the order in which four vehicles arrived at a specific place. Our results reveal that previous findings had generalized human perception in these situations and that large differences in user efficiency exist for a given task between different types of visualizations depicting the same data. Furthermore, our results are in line with earlier general findings on the nature of human perception of both object shape and scene changes. Finally, the need for new taxonomies of data and tasks based on results from perception research is discussed.

    Abstract [en]

    New technologies and techniques allow novel kinds of visualizations and different types of 3D visualizations are constantly developed. We propose a categorization of 3D visualizations and, based on this categorization, evaluate two versions of a space-time cube that show discrete spatiotemporal data. The two visualization techniques used are a head-tracked stereoscopic visualization ('strong 3D') and a static monocular visualization ('weak 3D'). In terms of effectiveness and efficiency the weak 3D visualization is as good as the strong 3D and thus the need for advanced 3D visualizations in these kinds of tasks may not be necessary.

    Digital urban tree registers serve many porposes and facilitate the administration, care and management of urban trees within a city or municipality. Currently, mapping of urban tree stands is carried out manually with methods which are both laborious and time consuming. The aim of this study is to establish a way of operation based on the use of existing LiDAR data and othophotos to automatically detect individual trees. By using the extensions LIDAR Analyst and Feature Analyst for ArcMap a tree extraction was performed. This was carried out over the extent of the city district committee area of Östermalm in the city of Stockholm, Sweden. The results were compared to the city’s urban tree register and validated by calculating its Precision and Recall. This showed that FeatureAnalyst generated the result with the highest accuracy. The derived trees were represented by polygons which despite their high accuracy make the result unsuitable for detecting individual tree positions. Even though the use of LIDAR Analyst resulted in a less precise tree mapping result, individual tree positions were detected satisfactory. This especially in areas with more sparse, regular tree stands. The study concludes that the use of both tools complement each other and compensate the shortcomings of the other. FeatureAnalyst maps an acceptable tree coverage while LIDAR Analyst more accurately identifies individual tree positions. Thus, a combination of the two results could be used for individual tree mapping.

    A method for controlled diagnosis-oriented enhancement of selected regions of interest in intraoral radiographs is presented. Image enhancement is accomplished by adaptive non-linear grey scale transformation depending on the result of objective quality measurement. In order to assure reliable image duality measurement as well as controlled image enhancement, automatic image segmentation is applied to avoid the influence of disturbing factors (e.g. metallic restorations) on quality measurement and image enhancement. Based on existing a-priori knowledge about object structure and composition of the selected regions of interest in intraoral radiographs, different image segmentation algorithms and image enhancement procedures were developed for different types of diagnosis.     som ledde fram till den färdiga produkten som blev en färdigställd

    webbplats tänkt att publiceras under domänen spelaspel.nu.

    Webbplatsen använder sig av en SQL-databas och har utvecklats på

    Microsofts ramverk .NET Framework 2.0. Webbplatsen

    programmerades i C#, HTML och JavaScipt.

    Denna studie redovisar information om nyttorna med öppna geodata. Resultatet ger en indikation över att stora samhällsvinster uppstår vid tillgängliggörande av öppna data. I studien redovisas vinsten av satsningar på öppna geodata för de nordiska länderna. Rapporter från de nordiska länderna indikerar stora samhällsvinster genom nya eller förbättrade innovationer och tjänster. I den fallstudie som genomförs redovisas de genomsnittliga leveranstiderna för Svenska kraftnät och deras pågående infrastrukturprojekt, Sydvästlänken. Om de beställningar Svenska kraftnät gjort mellan 2011-2015 räknas ihop visar denna studie att de väntat i totalt 1457 arbetsdagar på leveranser. Den genomsnittliga leveranstiden för geografisk information som Svenska kraftnät beställt från Lantmäteriet är 5,2 arbetsdagar per order. Resultatet av mer öppna data skulle betyda stor tidsbesparing för Svenska kraftnät och även andra myndigheter.

    Multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) involves techniques which relatively recently have received great increase in interest for their capabilities of solving spatial decision problems. One of the most frequently used techniques of MCDA is Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). In the AHP, decision-makers make pairwise comparisons between different criteria to obtain values of their relative importance. The AHP initially only dealt with crisp numbers or exact values in the pairwise comparisons, but later it has been modified and adapted to also consider fuzzy values. It is necessary to empirically validate the ability of the fuzzified AHP for solving spatial problems. Further, the effects of different levels of fuzzification on the method have to be studied. In the context of a hypothetical GIS-based decision-making problem of locating a dam in Costa Rica using real-world data, this paper illustrates and compares the effects of increasing levels of uncertainty exemplified through different levels of fuzzification of the AHP. Practical comparison of the methods in this work, in accordance with the theoretical research, revealed that by increasing the level of uncertainty or fuzziness in the fuzzy AHP, differences between results of the conventional and fuzzy AHPs become more significant. These differences in the results of the methods may affect the final decisions in decision-making processes. This study concludes that the AHP is sensitive to the level of fuzzification and decision-makers should be aware of this sensitivity while using the fuzzy AHP. Furthermore, the methodology described may serve as a guideline on how to perform a sensitivity analysis in spatial MCDA. Depending on the character of criteria weights, i.e. the degree of fuzzification, and its impact on the results of a selected decision rule (e.g. AHP), the results from a fuzzy analysis may be used to produce sensitivity estimates for crisp AHP MCDA methods.

    Med anledning av den snabbt växande populariteten för mobila enheter såsom iPad/iPhone, Android och Windows Phone 7 öppnas nya möjligheter för affärsverksamheten. Ett exempel är mobil åtkomst till Microsoft SharePoint, en webbplattform som erbjuder en bred uppsättning verktyg för bland annat dokumenthantering och projektsamarbete. Den här studien har utvärderat ett antal lösningar för att tillgängliggöra SharePoint på mobila enheter. Utvärderingen har fokuserat på de två huvudaspekterna användarvänlighet och säkerhet, eftersom studien utfördes på ett företag med omfattande hantering av sekretessbelagda filer. Lösningarna i studien har delvis testats via mobila enheter och delvis endast undersökts genom dokumentation på grund av brist på möjlighet till driftsättning av de mer avancerade lösningarna. Studien visar att de flesta av de undersökta lösningarna har brister i något eller några avseenden. Det var nämligen endast en av de undersökta lösningarna som bedömdes uppfylla de krav uppdragsgivaren ställer på användarvänlighet och säkerhet.

    Huvudsyftet med det här examensarbetet är att se om det finns ett skäl eller behov att skapa ett serviceföretag inom IT och finna affärsmodeller för detta företag. Vidare avses utvärdera dagslägets hantering av IT hos små till medelstora företag. IT har blivit viktigt för företagsverksamheten men kan lätt försummas i mindre och medelstora företag Vi vill genom en marknadsundersökning se om det finns ett behov av ett serviceföretag. Därtill genom en undersökning av existerande teknologi och öppen mjukvara utvärdera om ett serviceföretag kan skapas för hantering av IT hos dessa företag. I vår undersökning fann vi vissa företag som är intresserade av vår lösning och vi fick svar på en del av våra frågor om hur situationen ser ut för företag inom Gävleborgsområdet. Vi fann även mjukvara och teknik i form av FAI - Fully Automatic Installation som genom fjärrinstallation samt fjärrkonfigurering skulle kunna sköta IT hantering hos företag och detta skulle kunna vara basis för skapandet av ett serviceföretag som vi gett namnet Nisaba.

    Det här arbetet är en utvärdering om huruvida det finns problem som kan få en prestandavinst då man använder en Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) som hjälpprocessor till en mikroprocessor i jämförelse men att enbart använda en mikro-processor. För att avgöra detta implementerades algoritmen gaussfiltrering dels på en mikroprocessor med språket C och dels för en FPGA med hårdvarubeskrivningsspråket Very-High-Speed Integrated Circuits Hardware Description Language (VHDL). Simuleringar gjordes för dessa två implementationer och resultatet visade att det var möjligt att få en prestandaökning på 25 gånger för denna speciella algoritm.
