Lönediskriminering av invandrare: en empirisk undersökning av invandrares samt invandrarkvinnors förhållanden på den svenska arbetsmarknaden 2005.2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this thesis we investigate whether immigrant are being discriminated on the Swedish labor market. We also examine if this differentiates itself when we put our focus on the women as a group and thereafter make comparison between Swedish born women and women born outside Sweden. We have employed two models in order to determine wage differences, the dummy variable model and the Blinder-Oaxaca model. Our results show a distinct indication of wage discrimination against immigrants, women and even a more comprehensive discrimination towards immigrant women. Immigrant women have in general 28,4% lower wage than the average population. According to our findings therefore, foreign women are subjects to double discrimination.

Evaluation and assessment of relocation from a city to the outskirts: Case study DHL Gävle (Sweden)2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The ‘City Logistics’ activities are contributing to traffic congestion and accumulating to environmental challenges, such situation has prompted the creation of urban consolidation centre (UCC), as a multimodal logistics park facility in the outskirts.

The relocation of business from a city to the outskirts requires the evaluation and assessment of the key factors in order to make the better decisions.

However, no relocation decisions evaluation model has been found, neither its application on the case company to find the effects of relocation on the logistics firms.

This study is aimed at developing general business relocation model, that can be used by logistics firms, to evaluate the effects of their relocation.  The model is a decision making tool.

Application of the model before the relocation, help’s in decision making. Therefore, this research study focuses on developing a general model involving selected important factors that can be considered by logistics firms to evaluate the effects of relocation.

The results for this research were analysed using the qualitative method, predominantly literature review, factors were applied on the case company.

The DHL’s relocation scenario from Gävle city centre (Näringen) to the proposed Tolvfors Logistics Park (outskirts), relocation led to transport cost and drive-time reductions, along with efficiency improvements. The evaluation model has been developed, have likewise presented the drivers of relocation, and factors that logistics firms can consider for relocation’s possible outcome.

En studie om fastighetstaxeringssystem: -Vad kan Sverige lära av England och Wales2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

According to the client, land survey of Sweden, there is no current information regarding other well developed property tax systems. This information is necessary in order to analyze the effectiveness and develop the Swedish system. The purpose of this study is to contribute with improvement proposals to the development of the Swedish property tax system through a survey of the English and Welsh property tax system.

Methods used are: (1) a literature review where the English and Welsh valuation methodology and organization regarding property taxation is studied; (2) an interview with the client at the land survey of Sweden regarding existing problems with the Swedish property tax system; (3) An interview with a contact person of the Valuation Office Agency regarding the English and Welsh property tax system.

In England and Wales there are two different property taxes for municipals, Council Tax and Rating. All domestic properties are included in Council Tax and commercial properties or part of commercial properties is included in Rating. Council Tax is based on the properties market value and Rating is based on the commercial property or part of the properties current rental value. The tax is annually estimated based on what local authorities calculate on how much that is expected for the cost of local services.

The Swedish property tax system is separated in several respects in relation to the English and Welsh, but Sweden can learn from England and Wales in several aspects. English and Welsh account of how property taxes are used can easily be seen on the local authorities' websites. Fees for deliberately withholding information regarding property declaration may provide a more accurate picture of the property value. Sweden put more resources on valuation whereas England’s and Wales’s resources are devoted to calculating and reporting tax.

Finns det fler än en faktor som påverkar pribildningen av aktier - en studie inom den svenska aktiemarknaden2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this essay, I examine whether CAPM or APT models give results on the Swedish stock market between 1998 and 2007. I examine if either CAMP or APT or both of these models fits in on the Swedish stock market and what the result is. What makes this essay interesting is that I use both models in one and the same study and compare the result of my estimates with these two models. As market index, I have used the OMXS30 index and as macroeconomic variables in APT model, I have used inflation, oil price, industry production index and interest. The result of the study is that with the macroeconomic variables, that I have used with APT and CAPM, gives CAPM and APT equivalent results. The conclusion of the study is that APT, with the correct variables, is better model for estimating the stock prices than CAPM.

Differences Between Chinese and Franch Companies Regarding Total Quality Management: A Case Study of JKKR Co., Ltd and Veolia Water Group2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

There is a research about the essences and processes of Total Quality Management (TQM) implementation and its effects on organization performance. The results from the research report indicate that the adoption of TQM in China is extensive (Yusuf, Gunasekaran & Guo, 2007). Although many Chinese manufacturing firms began to implement TQM from 1978 onwards, China still lacks effective TQM systems and applications at the business level (Zhao, 1995). TQM is an effective method to improve business performance. It is expected that quality management will help quality people in manufacturing firms and industries, not only in China but also in other developing countries.

This thesis aims to identify differences between Chinese and French companies regarding three of five cornerstones of TQM. They are customer focus, process focus and continuous improvement. The aim is to explain why differences exist and also examine how the companies are performing in TQM aspects as well.

In this thesis the authors follow a research design and collect data from interviews and documentation to provide the theoretical framework and obtain empirical evidence for the thesis.

Based on the findings, the authors compared the two companies regarding the three cornerstones. The reasons why there are the differences between the two companies are mainly social policies and the companies’ development stages.

From the study, the authors raised some new ideas of cornerstones. Compared with Gauttam (2010), who gave an idea of The Four Pillars of TQM, the authors think that the processes are as significant as the customers. Thus, the authors made a new theory model to state their understanding of the relationship between TQM cornerstones, which is a contribution to theoretical framework.
