    Abstract [en]

    The typical residential building is located at the crossing of S. Centralgatan Street and Nedre Akargatan Street in the city of Gavle. It is a quadrangle building of six floors with a yard in the middle. There are 180 apartments of five types in total, and at the first floor there is a kindergarten. There is a District Heating in the building and heating recovery system ventilation which use heat exchanger to reheat.

    Several solutions are used for reducing the heat loss. In the first step, the heat loss  and heat  in  has  been  calculated. There  are  several parameters  that involve the heat loss and heat in of whole building, so each parameter in the energy balance equation is extracted and calculated. And then the Energy Balance Sheet has been built. Among the heat loss part, the transmission is 1237MWh,  the  hot  tap  water  is  332MWh,  the  mechanical  ventilation  is 1041MWh, the natural ventilation is 325.7MWh.In the part of heat in, the DH is 1265.7MWh, the heat pump is 793MWh, the solar radiation is 562MWh, the internal heating is 315MWh.Later in the second step, after analyzing data of heat loss part, the improvements will be focused on the transmission and hot tap water parts because the heat loss in those two parts occupy the most. At the end of final step, the solutions have been discussed to optimize the heating system.

    As conclusion, there are several suggested solutions. The total reduction of heat loss after adjustment is 163MWh, accounts 5.6% of originally heat loss. The  heat  loss  of  the  building  has  been  reduced  from  2935.7MWh  to 2772.7MWh.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis used ACSI model as a theoretical basis, which is a cause-and-effect model, to measure the quality of goods or service that starts from “customer expectations” to “customer satisfaction”. The purpose of this thesis is to find a suitable model for developing the customer satisfaction of No.2 bus service, by examining the relationships between perceived quality, customer expectation, perceived value and customer satisfaction in ACSI model. According to the data from survey of the international students in Gävle University, who lives in Sätra of Gävle of Sweden, this thesis used the partial least squares (PLS) regression to estimates the ASCI model. As a result, the coefficients of each variable and R-square statistics indicate that the relationships between PQ, CE, CS and PV are very weak; PV should be ignored in the case. Therefore, the ACSI model in this case had been revised, and the conclusion can be drawn: the ACSI model was unsuitable for No.2 bus case, furthermore, this study presents a new model for No.2, which is “customer expectation—perceived quality—customer satisfaction”. Consequently, the X-traffic Company should know the customers expectation and provide the service which can meet customer needs. By expanding previous research and based on ACSI model, the study empirically examines the relationships between three customer satisfaction dimensions.

    Abstract [en]

     This paper proposes a Web Software Reliability Growth Model(SRGM) with BurrX Testing Effort Function(TEF) based on Non-homogeneous Poisson Process(NHPP) and develops its application to Web software reliability analysis. The incorporated TEF depicts the relationship between Web workload and calendar time, and solves the problem about high uneven of Web workload. By using the workload data and failure data from Web logs. Experimental results show that the proposed model can be used to describe the actual failure process more faithfully than G-O model, which is often used to analyze Web software.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents a systematic experimental study on stream-wise flow development and spatial structure of triple buoyant plumes. Two-dimensional Particle Image Velocimetry (2-D PIV) is employed to resolve velocity fields. Stream-wise axial velocity profiles, flow structure, flow region parameters, and self-similarity properties are analyzed at different configurations that are characterized by spacing ratios S/W (source spacing S divided by source width W). From velocity fields and axial velocity profiles, a similar stream-wise developing trend is identified in different source configurations. When near-field plumes travel downstream, axial velocities increase rapidly, off-center velocity peaks get merged with the central peak, and the number of velocity peaks reduces with the downstream distance. A compact source layout, comparing with the wide one, could enhance the near-field plumes interaction and promote the plumes deflection significantly. Fundamentally, the stream-wise spatial structure of the triple plumes initially consists of a converging region, followed by a merging region, and finally a combined region. By examining the averaged velocity fields, flow recirculation with negative axial velocities is found to scarcely exist in the converging region. Merging level Zm and quasi-combined level Zqc are analyzed quantitatively and statistically. Within the studied S/W range, the normalized Zm shows a linear increase with S/W in the formula of Zm/H=2.007(S/W)+1.173 and the normalized Zqc gives a power law increase with S/W in the formula of Zqc/H=6.035(S/W)0.4959. In addition, triple plumes are found to establish self-similarity approximately at Z = 3H with S/W of 0.2 and at Z = 4.5H with S/W of 0.5.

    Abstract [en]

    Building plume is important for ventilation and pollutants dispersion along and above buildings in an urban canopy layer. This study fundamentally explores the merging process and temporal penetration of triple uniformly distributed starting building plumes, with a focus of the spacing effect on near-field flow dynamics. Instantaneous velocity and vorticity distributions, penetrating velocities, and stream-wise penetrated heights are quantitatively examined using 2-D particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements at spacing ratios S/W (building spacing/building width) of 0.2, 0.5, and 1.0. We identified a four-stage merging progress and captured three main spacing-induced merging features. A compact layout at S/W = 0.2 introduces a strong upward channel flow. The wall flows beside the channel tend to draw together first and the unstable channel flow determines the flow pattern transition. In contrast, wider layouts at S/W = 0.5 and 1.0 exhibit intensive downward flow. The wall flows tend to exhibit self-merging initially and the downstream natural swaying motion dominates the merged pattern variations. Merging effect and buoyancy force jointly determine the temporal penetrating velocities. Temporal series of maximum axial velocities above the middle source fits into a power law profile at S/W = 0.2 but a linear function of time at S/W = 0.5 and 1.0. The normalized penetrated heights at S/W = 1.0 are notably faster than in the other two cases before the normalized time is at 3.00 probably because the weaker entrainment and interaction with neighbors lead to less energy and momentum dissipation, quicker self-merging, and faster penetration.

    Abstract [en]

    Problem:

    What are the most critical activities for process industry? Whether general view of impact of these value chain activities on product performance (quality, cost and innovation) applied to process industry? How do those activities impact to product performances? If they cannot affect product performance, what could be the reason behind it?

     

    Purpose:

    This paper aims to conclude general view of impact of value chain activities on product performances (quality, cost and innovation). Accordingly we would create a conceptual model. And then test whether this model applies for process industry and further more figure out the reason behind through case study.

     

    Methodology:

    In this paper, qualitative research is our approach. We choose single case study as research strategy and conduct three interviews. Documentation and interview data are collected and analyzed to provide theoretical framework and empirical evidence for the whole paper.  

     

    Result:

    Based on case study, and previous work, the model concerning impact of major activities for process industry (Marketing sales, Human Resource and Supplier management) on product performances (Quality, Cost and Innovation) is derived. This model contains answers to nine hypotheses assumed in theoretical part, giving reader a new and easy way to understand process industry.     

     

    Conclusions:

    Distinguished from other industry, process industry with its own unique characteristics does not lend support to all nine hypotheses. Fundamental analysis proved that some assumptions do not establish for process industry while the others may have more significant relationships. To be specific, there exists strong impact of human resource on product quality and cost, supplier management on product cost and also marketing and sales on product quality. But, to our surprise, the other assumed relationships are not that significant while product innovation has adverse affect on marketing and sales.

    This thesis includes an energy survey of the Herrgården pre-school, which has a modern heating- and ventilation system, and a comparison with Östers pre-school which has an older system. An energy survey of Östers pre-school has already been done by a group of three students and all the calculations and values have been collected from that survey. As of today, both pre-schools are heated thru district heating. It will be much easier to make smart and feasible energy-saving-measures by first conducting the energy survey.

    Herrgården pre-school in Gävle houses 81 children, therteen teachers, one cleaner and one cook. It was finished in the middle of 2009 and the staff has been very pleased with the in-door climate. In the energy balance added heat was calculated as district heat, solar radiation body heat and heat from lighting and other appliances. As lost heat- transmission, tap water heating, heating of ventilating air and excess ventilation was taken in to account.

    At Öster pre-school there are 66 children, twelve teachers and two economists. The pre-school was built in 1973. Gävlefastigheter which administrates both buildings are planning to change the ventilation system at Östers since it has been inferior and the staff has been experiencing bad in-door climate.

    The purpose of this thesis is to conduct a survey of how to economically reduce the energy consumption and to establish a good in-door climate like the Herrgården pre-school. The methods used have been to make a few visits on site to collect data.

    After finishing the survey it was shown that one could save 76,23 MWh/year if Öster has the same U-values as Herrgården for its´ roofs, floors walls and windows and a ventilation heat exchanger with 70% efficiency. However, none of these approximate calculations of installations at Östers pre-school turned out to be financially feasible.

    In recent years, the prognostics and health management (PHM) technique has greatly been developed especially for electronic devices and systems. Little work, however, has been done on PHM techniques for software systems. During their total lifecycle, the software systems, due to various reasons such as new requirements or changes in technology, have to experience changes that can lead to a degeneration of the system's architecture. Therefore, it is important and necessary to identify and predict the software health status in order to avoid serious degeneration or erosion of system's architecture. In this paper, a software PHM approach based on Discriminant Coordinates Analysis (DCA) is proposed, and the health status of software systems is suggested to be categorized into five groups: Healthy, Normal, Sub-healthy, Unhealthy and Deteriorated. The proposed model based on software design metrics can help managers and developers predict and identify the software health status. Numerical example based on simulation data is given to illustrate its application on the modeling process.

    Abstract [en]

    Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) is usually referred to the process of exposing a product to environmental stresses for detecting and eliminating latent defects made in manufacturing process. The common ESS profiles are using thermal cycling, random vibration or their combinations as the screening stresses. Various guidelines and standards have been available for determining an ESS profile. Nevertheless, there are cases that the standard ESS profiles may not be efficient enough to detect the latent defects in some manufacturing process. This paper reports the results of one industrial project on the ESS profile design for circuits. In the project, a comparative study was carried out for the evaluation of the ESS strength under the ESS profiles with incremental step stresses (ISS). The ISS profile under the study is firstly to implement a step thermal cycling and then perform the test with two screening stimuli concurrently: ordinary thermal cycling and random vibration of step increasing intensity levels. For the purpose of the comparative study, the ESS test samples were consisted of two groups A and B that were made at two different levels of manufacturing: soldering by skilled and unskilled workers, respectively. The comparative study shows that the ISS profiles are effective for exposing the latent defects in sample group A and B. Based on the project results, an ESS profile is recommended in this paper.

    With the growth of population and development of the global economy, the unrestrained use of natural and energy resources have seriously influenced environment and economy of world. Many people start to realize the serious environmental problems that come from the high energy utilizations, especially of high carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. So Low-Carbon Economy has become focus of attention around the world; it also has become every country‟s strategic goals for future development under this global situation.As the biggest country of CO2 emissions in the world, China‟s development of Low-Carbon Economy is increasingly influencing the economy and environmental development in the world, and the country has faced more and more pressure after United Nations Climate Change Conference, 2009. Transition to Low-Carbon Economy is essential road for China, whether respond to the threat of climate change or balance domestic economic development with environmental sustainability. However, China also faces lots of challenges and pressure in the process of transition to Low-Carbon Economy.This thesis combines quantitative method with qualitative methods to do a research about driving force and challenges of developing Low-Carbon Economy in China. Firstly, it discusses the driving forces for China to develop Low-Caron Economy from two aspects-pressures and benefits. Secondly, it investigates challenges that China is likely to face in Low-Carbon Economy development from energy and economic aspect. Finally, it uses cause and effect diagram to explain the bottlenecks of Low-Carbon Economy development in China.Our conclusion is that China faces the bottleneck between challenges and driving force to develop Low-Carbon Economy. And this situation was caused by national actual situations and conditions in China. This explains also why China requested in Copenhagen Conference that “developing countries take appropriated measures to emission control and reduction in terms of receiving the funding and technology support from developed countries. Those emission reduction actions should be done according to the national actual situations and conditions.”

    Just  as  the  innovation  is  one  of  the  key  elements  in  organization,  therefore  the continued  innovation capacity will derive organization successful. Whilst, measuring and analyzing CI capacity  in organization  is an  important activity. The primary goal of this paper is to audit and analyze the continued innovation (CI) capacity in Guizhou Huagong  Tools  Company  with  the  innovation  model  developed  by  Bessant&Tidd (2005).This  research  includes  literature  study  and  case  company  investigation,  both quality and quantity research is used in this thesis in order to obey the deductive logic. The finding of this thesis showed that Huagong Tools Company relying on a series of innovation mechanism has been  an  advance  innovation but not  the best  one,  this  is due  to  a  paucity  of  radical  innovation  and  capture  ability  from  innovation, furthermore,  an  ill-defined  innovation  strategy  has  been  incriminated  as  one  of  this circumstances,  depending  on  that,  authors  briefly  summarize  suggestions  for  the problems. At  last but not  least  the discussion about  innovation  theory  expounded  in the end.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents the energy saving curtains, in order to make the

    consumers be more aware of the energy efficiency of the energy saving

    curtains, the paper gave related analysis and conclusions.

    The work was performed by using the Parasol Program, developed by Lunds University, Sweden. The Program is used for quantifying the influence of window size, glass type, textile type, wall thermal insulation and sun shading on annual energy use and indoor thermal comfort. The results which are obtained from the calculations are applicable to similar climatic and environment conditions. Calculations were performed to investigate the potential for using sunshade devices to reduce annual energy demand for cooling and heating. Different materials and dimensions of the energy saving

    curtain are used as variables in the analysis. The results indicated that for the current climatic conditions and other related factors, the total reduction rate of the annual energy consumption of office used buildings in Stockholm is estimated generally 20% -30% lower comparing to those buildings without energy saving curtain system. That means at least 20% of energy cost can be saved by the energy saving curtain system.

    The purpose of the thesis is to see potential of integrating environment issues into logistic system by literature review and case study. With the help of our supervisors, two Swedish companies Sandvik SMT and FLB Logistik become case companies in the thesis. The analysis is based on literature review about logistics and environment, the information from both companies‟ websites as well as face-to-face interviews.

    In analysis part, how logistics systems and environmental issues interact with each other is illustrated firstly. A proposed model based on logistics system decision-making model is shown. SWOT analysis is used to explain the outcomes and challenges of implementing EMS in Sandvik SMT. At last, the conditions such as customer environmental requirement and the cost for using EMS are briefly described.

    Based on the research, further study should begin with the collection of quantitative data about environmental performance from manufacturing companies, suppliers, as well as retailers. More recommendations are given in the conclusion part.

    Abstract [en]

    Atlas Copco in Tierp focus its production on hand-held tools, fixtured tools and assembly systems. Examples of tools that the company produces are wrenches, screwdrivers, grinders and drills. The production unit in Tierp is the largest production unit in the Industrial Technique business area. The company manufactures articles in many sizes and shapes. The articles are stored and transported in workshop palettes (load carriers). In order to ensure quality standards the articles are cleaned every so often in large industrial washing machines.The rinsing process is not efficient enough when cleaning the company's smaller articles. Palettes which articles are placed in contributes greatly to the lack of efficiency. To get the articles completely clean rinsing must sometimes be done twice.The goal was to develop a new palette concept that enable increased cleanliness after rinsing.Through trial and error method several alternative concepts have been developed and the best selected using Pugh matrix.The selected concept significantly increases the water flow and detail capacity compared to the original palette, but manufacturing costs are estimated to increase.Depending on the manufacturing method selected for making the new palettes, construction design can part. If the palettes are made through 3D-printing it may be advantageous to reduce the height (possibly remove the support pillars) and the mass of the palette to lessen manufacturing costs, while too complex design can increase the cost of machining.I recommended a prototype of the palette too be tested in production to reliably evaluate its properties and quality.

    Abstract [en]

    In this paper, we report results from shielding effectiveness measurements on energy-saving windows and individual, coated window panes of different generations, as well as results from high-power microwave irradiation on single panes. Shielding effectiveness was measured with two complementary methods: first, with near isotropic irradiation in nested reverberation chambers, and the other with irradiation at normal incidence in a semianechoic chamber. The measurements show that the construction of the energy conserving windows has a clear impact on how well they attenuate radio frequency signals. The more modern the window or pane, the higher is the shielding effectiveness. The high-power irradiation on coated panes showed that depending on the type of coating, hotspots can build up causing the coating to crack and, hence, deteriorate the shielding effectiveness. These results may serve as guidance when reviewing high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (EMP), high-power microwave, or intentional electromagnetic interference protection of critical infrastructures, and provide assistance in the work with reduction of compromising emanations.

    På Sandvik Materials Technology, SMT, Rörverk 68 i Sandviken tillverkar man ånggeneratorrör till kärnkraftsindustrin. Rören är upp till 30 meter långa och ca 20 mm i diameter, så när de ska lyftas upp ur ett rörställ där de mellanlagras, kräver det stor försiktighet. Inte minsta repa får förekomma på rören och de får inte bli krokiga. Lyftet görs nu för hand vilket inte är lämpligt ur arbetsmiljösynpunkt. Därför finns behovet av ett lyfthjälpmedel som underlättar för operatörerna. Rören böjs vid lyftet och ett av delmålen var att finna samband mellan utböjning, lyftkraft och spänningar. Genom beräkningar enligt balkteori, experiment samt analys med finita elementmetoden har spänningar i rören kartlagts och lyftkrafter bestämts.

    Inom lyfthöjder, och därmed utböjningar av rören, på upp till 1000 mm är största spänningen 157 MPa vilket ger en säkerhet mot bestående deformation på 1,8. Några samband mellan utböjning och spänning har också konstaterats. Till exempel är, för lyft i en rörände, sambandet mellan spänning och lyfthöjd exponentiellt och spänningen ökar enligt en rotfunktion.

    Utifrån intervjuer med operatörerna i produktionen samt resultaten från beräkningarna har ett koncept för lyfthjälpmedlet tagits fram. Genom att endast lyfta rören i ena änden och placera dem på lyfthjälpmedlets rullar, därefter föra lyfthjälpmedlet in under rören, erhålls en vågrörelse som lyfter rören till önskad höjd. Resultatet är en innovativ lösning som drar nytta av rörens elasticitet.
