Outsourcing Relationship : the connection between commitment and task-knowledge coordination in outsourcing of accounting functions (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Aim: Previous research suggests a connection between commitment and task-knowledge coordination in outsourcing relationships. Based on quantitative studies where there is no detailed description of the nature of this connection. We believe it is in the interest of increasing understanding of the connection and so is the purpose of our study; addressing the connection between commitment and task-knowledge coordination in outsourcing relationships.

Method: Our study is based on a qualitative approach. We use a case study design to study both customers and suppliers. Our ontology ischaracterized bysocial constructivism and knowledge vision is of hermeneutical nature. We have an abductive research approach, based on the theoretical framework, we build a structure for the study that helps us to collect and analyze empirical material in various categories. With the theoretical framework as a starting point, we develop our interview guide and collect empirical data in the area of interest through semi-structured interviews with five customers and five suppliers.

Result & Conclusions: We observed that the nature of the connection between the concepts of commitment and task-knowledge coordination, are of a nature that focuses on the individual and the company as unique individuals.

Suggestions for future research: We have noticed that customers and suppliers believe that there is a difference in how large and small suppliers see the importance of relationships in outsourcing. For this reason, we believe it would be interesting to study these possible differences. We also believe that it would be interesting to study outsourcing relationships applied to large suppliers and where to apply the theory we have used to highlight any differences in theory suitability.

Contribution of the thesis: By highlighting the nature of the connection between the concepts of commitment and task-knowledge coordination, we have provided theoretical contributions in four parts. Our theoretical contributions builds on the quantitative studies we base our studies on, it complements and supports the theories we have chosen to apply and that these theories are to some extent linked. We have also made a practical contribution on the basis of our study, this contribution can be seen as a guideline for customers and suppliers, and how they can work with their relationships in outsourcin
