The terms and conditions for operating a manufacturing company are constantly changing. An important area within this is the material supply, which has not always received much attention. Within the material supply, there is the internal material supply. The internal material supply includes the provision of materials that support production, referred to in the study as indirect materials. While there are studies on various methods for controlling material flows, there are limited studies on applications concerning indirect materials.

The purpose of this study is to identify challenges with the supply of indirect materials for manufacturing companies and formulate improvement suggestions for this type of supply. 

In this study, a case study is conducted at a manufacturing company. The approach of this study is inspired by the abductive method. Interviews and observations have been used as data collection methods.

Challenges have emerge with the supply of materials at the case company. These challenges include the human factor, lacking routines, various types of material handling, and the impact on material control methods.

The factors that have been identified in this study as important for efficient supply are the design of a standardized working method, the development of routines, categorization of supplies, formulation of demand-driven forecasts, review of the choice of material control method, and the application of Lean principles.

Villkoren förändras ständigt för att bedriva en tillverkande verksamhet. Ett viktigt område inom detta är materialförsörjning som inte alltid varit särskilt uppmärksammad. Inom en materialförsörjning finns den interna materialförsörjningen. Inom ramen för den interna materialförsörjningen ingår försörjning av material som stödjer produktionen, som i studien benämns förnödenheter. Vid styrning av materialflöden finns det studier utförda om olika metoder, men begränsat med studier om tillämpningar gällande förnödenheter.

Syftet med studien är att identifiera utmaningar med försörjning av förnödenheter för tillverkande företag samt utforma förbättringsförslag för denna typ av försörjning. 

I studien utförs en fallstudie på ett tillverkande företag. Studiens ansats är inspirerad av det abduktiva arbetssättet. Intervjuer och observation har använts som datainsamlingsmetoder.

Utmaningar framkommer med försörjningen av förnödenheter hos det studerade fallföretaget. Det förekommer utmaningar i form av den mänskliga faktorn, bristande rutiner, de olika sorts hantering av förnödenheter och påverkan hos materialstyrningsmetoder. 

De faktorer som framkommer i studien som är viktiga för en effektiv försörjning är utformningen av ett standardiserat arbetssätt, utveckla rutiner, kategorisera förnödenheter, utforma efterfrågestyrda prognoser, se över val av materialstyrningsmetod och tillämpning av Lean principer.
