Abstract [en]

Violence in close relationships is an extensive public health and social problem globally. Studies investigating treatment methods for perpetrators of violence show varying results, which highlights the need for a deeper understanding of factors that can contribute to a successful treatment. This literature review aims to explore and identify such key factors, with the goal of contributing to the development of more effective treatment methods for perpetrators of violence. This literature review includes 10 international articles with varying methodological approaches.

The study found some key factors in the treatment of violent men, which can lead to improved treatment outcomes and reduced use of violence. These key factors alliance, psychoeducation, mentalization/empathy/cognitive restructuring, role playing and active participation in group.

In Sweden, social services are obliged by law to offer treatment for perpetrators of violence, this makes it important to identify any and all key factors that can improve treatment outcomes. The study has shown that several of the key factors identified can be found in the treatments currently offered to perpetrators of violence in Sweden.
