Abstract [sv]

Problemformulering

Abstract [en]

Problem Formulation

Hybrid work has become increasingly common, creating new challenges in a conducive work environment. Studies indicate that hybrid work can be both a success factor in terms of health and productivity and as a risk factor. Therefore, from an occupational health sciences perspective, it is interesting to examine the factors underlying individuals' choice of workplace.

Purpose

To investigate the factors determining individuals' choice of workplace.

Method

This is a qualitative study, and data was collected through semi-structured interviews with seven respondents who have worked in a hybrid workplace. The interviews was recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using an inductive phenomenographic approach.

Results

The study's results indicate that hybrid work can have health-promoting effects and positively influence productivity. Increased everyday physical activity, social relationships, and career and team development are factors which influence the choice to work from the office. The results show that the factors affecting the voluntary choice to work from home are related to work tasks, efficiency, physical work environment, and work-life balance. The study's theoretical framework and results also show that hybrid work can have negative outcomes. Therefore, it is important to create conditions for effective hybrid work by addressing individual, group, and organizational levels.

Conclusion

Hybrid work can benefit an individual's physical and psychosocial well-being, but maintaining efficiency and fostering good social relationships requires strategic efforts at the organizational level. The study shows that there are several factors influencing the choice of workplace, and respondents agree that working entirely remotely is not beneficial for the individual, group, or organization.
