Bakgrund: Endometrios är en smärtsam gynekologisk sjukdom som påverkar miljontals kvinnor världen över. Trots dess allvarliga konsekvenser, såsom smärta, infertilitet och psykologiskt lidande, är kunskapen bristfällig och förståelsen begränsad. I sjuksköterskans roll ingår det att kunna bemöta och vårda på ett empatiskt och medvetet sätt, därför behövs mer kunskap om kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med diagnosen endometrios. Syfte: Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att beskriva kvinnors upplevelse av att leva med diagnosen endometrios. Metod: En beskrivande litteraturstudie genomfördes med tio vetenskapliga artiklar, varav sju var kvalitativa och tre var kvantitativa. Artiklarna samlades in från databaserna PubMed och CINAHL genom systematiska sökningar och bearbetades kategoriskt. Huvudresultat: De huvudsakliga resultaten identifierade två huvudkategorier och fyra subkategorier som besvarade syftet och omfattade centrala teman i kvinnors upplevelser av endometrios. Dessa inkluderade att leva med smärta och ovisshet kring reproduktiv hälsa. I subkategorierna ingick kvinnornas upplevda begränsningar, misstro och attityder, skamkänslor samt psykologiska påfrestningar och deras påverkan på parrelationen. Slutsats: Studien belyste flera svårigheter som kvinnor med endometrios upplevde, vilket var avgörande för sjuksköterskor att förstå för att kunna ge kvalitativ omvårdnad och stärka kvinnornas känsla av hälsa och sammanhang. Slutsatsen betonade behovet av ökad medvetenhet och förståelse inom vården, samt rekommenderade att sjuksköterskor utrustades med kunskap och färdigheter för att erbjuda empatisk och holistisk omvårdnad.

Background: Endometriosis is a painful gynecological condition that affects millions of women worldwide. Despite its serious consequences, such as pain, infertility, and psychological distress, knowledge is lacking and understanding is limited. The role of the nurse includes the ability to engage and care for patients in an empathetic and conscious manner, which highlights the need for more knowledge about women’s experiences of living with the diagnosis of endometriosis. Aim: The aim of this literature study was to describe women’s experiences of living with the diagnosis of endometriosis. Method: A descriptive literature study was conducted using ten scientific articles, seven of which were qualitative and three quantitative. The articles were gathered from the PubMed and CINAHL databases through systematic searches and were categorized accordingly. Main Results: The main findings identified two primary categories and four subcategories that addressed the aim and encompassed central themes in women’s experiences of endometriosis. These included living with pain and uncertainty regarding reproductive health. The subcategories included women’s perceived limitations, distrust and attitudes, feelings of shame, as well as psychological stressors and their impact on partner relationships. Conclusion: The study highlighted several difficulties encountered by women with endometriosis, which is crucial for nurses to understand in order to provide quality care and enhance women’s sense of health and belonging. The conclusion emphasized the need for increased awareness and understanding within healthcare, recommending that nurses be equipped with the knowledge and skills to offer empathetic and holistic care.
