Abstract [sv]

Arbetet medför utmaningar i olika aspekter.

Abstract [en]

Background: The specific competence of a registred nurse is nursing. Working in palliative care involved alleviating suffering and promoting quality of life for patients with incurable, terminal illness and injuries. In palliative care, attention is given to existential needs and support for relatives. Palliative care at the end of life includes the care provided to a patient with the goal of relieving suffering and enhancing quality of life in the end of life.

Aim: The aim with this study was to describe nurses experience of working in palliativ care in the patients home.

Method: The literature study has a descriptive design and is based on 10 scientific articles with a qualitative approach. The database PubMed was used in the search and the data analysis was done according to the Popenoe, Langius-Eklöf, Stenwall and Jervaeus data analysis model.

Results: The results show that nurses find their work meaningful and important. They emphasize the value of collaboration and communication. The work presents challenges in various areas. The findings were presented under two main themes: 1) nurses strive to provide quality care, yet face challenges, and 2) nurses feel a need for collaboration and communication.

Conclusion: The work is perceived as meaningful despite challenges such as resource shortages, emotional strain, and ethical conflicts concerning patient autonomy and cultural differences. Appreciation from patients and support from colleagues motivate them to manage the emotional burden and maintain the quality of care.
