Abstract [en]
The purpose of the study is to examine the primary school staffs experience of how primary school integration effects students’ health and well-being. In order to answer the research questions, a qualitative semi-structured interview has been conducted. The interviews were conducted with four primary school teachers and a curators who works at one of the two schools that are included in the study. Results: Guided school integration has effects on primary school students experience of security, social relationships and psychological wellbeing. Changing the school environment and having to adapt to the new social contexts has brought challenges, especially for students who previously had difficulties with social inclusion or mental illness. The effect of guided school integration on primary school students’ health, wellbeing and learning varies depending on the students individual circumstances, including the students socio-economic background. Socially disadvantaged students feel more unsafe with the school change and mergers. Which has a big impact on primary school students engagement, performance, social interactions, health and wellbeing. Despite the efforts that are carried out with the aim of creating a more inclusive environment, there is a need for extensive health promotion efforts.
