Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Men’s violence against women is a global problem. Despite efforts through legislation and targeted treatment programs, research shows that such violence continues without any clear reduction. As the effectiveness of treatments appears to be limited, the purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and possibilities family therapists within social services have to counteract violence through therapeutic interventions. The study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with five family therapists who work with preventing and addressing men’s violence against women. The collected data was coded and categorized and then analyzed through thematic analysis to identify recurring themes in the participants' narratives. The results of the study showed that it is difficult to determine a specific treatment method that should be used over others. However, factorsthat seem to optimize the treatment of violent men include individualized approaches that incorporate a holistic view of the person, which is a fundamental requirement for achieving positive outcomes.
