Abstract [sv]

Examensarbetet syftar till att bidra med kunskap om hur lärare i förskoleklass arbetar med elever som har fonologiska svårigheter. Fokus ligger på fonologisk medvetenhet och dess koppling till läsinlärning, samt hur identifiering och pedagogiska anpassningar genomförs för elever med sådana svårigheter. Arbetet undersöker även vilka utmaningar lärare möter i arbetet med att främja elevers fonologiska medvetenhet. Studien har genomförts med en kvalitativ ansats, där datainsamlingen bestod av semistrukturerade intervjuer med sju verksamma lärare i förskoleklass, samt kompletterande observationer i deras respektive klassrum. Resultatet visar bland annat att lärare har grundläggande kunskap om fonologisk medvetenhet, men att undervisningen ofta är osystematisk. Fonologiska svårigheter identifieras främst genom observationer och kartläggningar, och anpassningarsker med hjälp av visuella, auditiva och digitala verktyg. Brist på tid, resurser och specialpedagogiskt stöd framstår som stora utmaningar.

Abstract [en]

 The purpose of this thesis is to contribute knowledge about how teachers in preschool classes work with students who have phonological difficulties. The focus is on phonological awareness and its connection to learning to read, as well as how identification and pedagogical adaptations are carried out for students with such difficulties. The study also explores the challenges teachers face in their efforts to promote students' phonological awareness. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through semi-structured interviews with six active preschool class teachers, along with supplementary classroom observations. The study reveals that while teachers possess foundational knowledge of phonological awareness, their instructional

methods often lack systematic structure. Identification of phonological difficulties primarily relies on observations and assessments, with adaptations incorporating visual, auditory, and digital tools. Significant challenges include limited time, inadequate resources, and insufficient special education support.
