Abstract [en]
This thesis examines the individuation process in women through Carl Gustav Jung’s and Erich Neumann’s theories in analytical psychology. While Jung presents a general model of individuation, Neumann expands it by focusing on women’s psychological development. The study analyses how women’s individuation differs from men’s and explores key challenges and opportunities. Using a qualitative approach combining hermeneutic and discourse analysis, the study examines primary texts from Jung and Neumann alongside feminist psychological theory. Results highlight the central role of the Great Mother, Animus, and the Shadow in women’s individuation. Integrating these archetypes is crucial for achieving psychological wholeness and self-independence. Findings confirm Neumann’s theory but stress the influence of social norms on individuation. The study underscores the need to view individuation as both a psychological and socio-cultural process. Future research should explore intersectional perspectives and empirical studies on women’s individuation in contemporary contexts.
