Film is most often seen as a means of entertainment and an escape from reality. But behind the innocent facade lie many complex questions about racism, power and culture. These questions can also be linked to colonialism. The purpose of this study is to analyse how articles in both online international newspapers and news feeds depict racism in Hollywood around the end of the 2010s. A critical discourse analysis will be conducted on six articles published around this specified period. This analysis will focus on identifying and examining the structural power relation and anti-racist discourses that are connected to Hollywood. This will be done from a postcolonial perspective, simultaneously identifying the colonial power structures, methods and norms of whiteness that are reproduced within Hollywood. The results show that racist and colonial power practices are still being reproduced in Hollywood. The culture of non-white individuals is often portrayed only within the framework of what the dominant whiteness norm allows. The analysed articles hold a homogenous standpoint within the anti-racist discourse, but the progress Hollywood has made in increasing diversity and reducing racism is not sufficient according to the demands of the articles.

Film ses oftast som ett medel för underhållning och en flykt från verkligheten. Men bakom den oskyldiga fasaden existerar komplexa frågor om rasism, makt och kultur som kan kopplas till kolonialismen. Den här studiens syfte är att analysera hur artiklar i både de internationella webbaserade dagstidningar och nyhetsflöden skildrar rasism inom Hollywood i slutet på 2010-talet. En kritisk diskursanalys kommer att genomföras på sex olika artiklar som publicerats inom den angivna tidsperioden. Analysen kommer att fokusera på att identifiera och granska hur de strukturella maktförhållanden och de antirasistiska diskurserna är kopplade till Hollywood. Detta kommer att göras utifrån ett postkolonialt perspektiv för att samtidigt identifiera de koloniala maktstrukturer, metoder och vithetsnormer som reproduceras inom Hollywood. Resultatet visar att rasistiska och koloniala maktutövningar fortfarande reproduceras i Hollywood. De icke-vita personers kultur framställs ofta endast inom ramen för vad den dominerande vithetsnormen godkänner. De artiklarna som analyserats har en homogen ståndpunkt i den antirasistiska diskursen, men de framsteg Hollywood har gjort för att öka på mångfalden och minska på rasism är inte tillräckligt för vad artiklarna kräver.
