Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to investigate child welfare workers’ experiences of supporting and protecting children who have witnessed domestic violence. Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with child welfare workers in two municipalities. The collected empirical data was analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. The theoretical starting points were organizational theory and childhood sociology, as well as the concepts of power and trust. The results showed that reports of concerns about domestic violence in families with children have a high priority and that both the social services’ preventive work and collaboration with other actors have made progress. Children’s participation is another area that has received more focus in practical social work. However, many concern investigations are closed when the child, out of loyalty to their parents, does not talk about the home situation. It also emerged that the parents rarely acknowledge the occurrence of violence but still agree to the social services’ efforts. In working with the children and their parents, the child welfare worker’s communicative ability and ability to build trusting relationships were described as crucial.
