A Rainbow-Colored Workplace : HR's Experiences of Converting Core Values into Reality for LGBTQ People (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the bachelor’s thesis was to explore how focused work environment efforts were conducted towards LGBTQ people in a Swedish context. A qualitative study with inductive thematic analysis was carried out with a reflexive approach. The method aimed to answer the research questions through 11 interviews with professional human resource personnel or similar positions, who were responsible for subjects such as diversity, equity and/or LGBTQ. The results showed that LGBTQ issues were rarely handled separately and instead integrated in the context of a broad diversity and discrimination work. Educational efforts, treatment and perceptiveness were the most concrete working methods. Value-based work, policies and support from managers and management were central organizational efforts to facilitate the work environment for LGBTQ people. Few practical and concrete cases emerged, descriptions of strategic and theoretical work were the most frequently recurring. Quantitative measurement tools such as employee surveys and equivalents were seen as insufficient and blunt instruments to accurately render the interests and needs of LGBTQ people in the workplace.
