Title: Between Profession and Prevention: Perspectives on the School as a Crime Prevention Arena for Teen Dating Violence

This qualitative study explored how school staff interpreted and navigated their professional responsibilities in relation to the prevention of violence in young people’s romantic relationships. Based on interviews with staff from various schools and professions, the thematic analysis identified tendencies in how preventive work is understood, implemented, and constrained in everyday school life. Findings suggested that preventive efforts were often conducted without being recognized as such, and that violence among young people is not always identified as violence. Unclear guidelines, limited collaboration with external actors, and lack of a shared professional language appeared to influence how violence is addressed. The study did not aim to generalize, but instead highlight interpretative patterns that may inform future research, policy development, and school-based support structures.

Abstract [sv]

Denna kvalitativa studie syftade till att undersöka hur skolpersonal tolkade och förhöll sig till skolans brottsförebyggande arbete med våld i ungas parrelationer. Genom intervjuer med yrkesverksamma inom olika skolprofessioner identifierades mönster i hur det förebyggande arbetet förståddes och praktiserades i vardagen. Många insatser genomfördes utan att benämnas som brottsförebyggande, och våld i ungas relationer igenkändes inte alltid som våld. Brist på riktlinjer, samverkan och gemensamt språk framkom som hinder, samtidigt som fungerande samarbete lyftes som stödjande. Studien syftade inte till generalisering utan belyste tendenser som kunde påverka skolans roll. Resultaten indikerade ett behov av att förtydliga uppdraget, synliggöra existerande insatser och utveckla stödstrukturer för tvärprofessionell samverkan.
