The digital colleague : Social workers perspectives on AI and the future of documentation (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine social workers’ perceptions of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on documentation. Four social workers from two different social services were interviewed in a qualitative semi-structured interview study. The results were thematically analyzed using street-level bureaucracy as theoretical framework. The results showed that social workers see several opportunities with AI in documentation, particularly in streamlining administrative tasks, reducing stress, and freeing up time for client-centered work that is often deprioritized due to heavy workloads. At the same time, the findings highlighted challenges related to ethics, confidentiality, professional judgment, and the risk of blind trust in AI, emphasizing the need for human quality control. This study highlights AI ́s potential impact on social workers documentation, with findings largely in line with previous research. Additionally, future research should focus on extensive empirical studies of AI use in social work.
