Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to examine whether there were differences in the reporting of the same news depending on the format on Aftonbladets website. Three articles that reported on different events both in video and text were analyzed to give answers to the following questions: how does the subject matter differ between the formats of writing versus video? Is there any difference in how the writer chooses to represent a news item based on the contents? Is information lost if the recipient only chooses to interact with one of the formats? The study applied the methods of multi-modal analysis and qualitative content analysis and is based on semiotic theory and hybrid media systems. In the chosen empirical material, the analysis was able to highlight that there was a difference in factual content depending on the format in which the news item was reported. This in turn could suggest that the recipient misses out on information if they choose to interact with only one of the formats. The chosen empirical material also showed that there were differences in how news is reported depending on its content.
