Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Stroke is one of the most common diseases in Sweden and often causes longterm physical, cognitive, and psychosocial problems that affect daily life and quality of life. Understanding how people experience everyday life after stroke gives a deeper insight into their challenges and needs during recovery. Aim: The aim was to describe how people experience everyday life after having a stroke. Method: A descriptive literature review based on 13 qualitative scientific articles found through searches in the PubMed database via the University of Gävle library. Main results: The literature review showed three main themes: experiences of changes in daily life, strategies for adaptation and rehabilitation, and psychological and social consequences of stroke. The results showed that people who have had a stroke experienced major changes in their daily lives, such as physical limitations, cognitive difficulties, and loss of independence. Many described feelings of worry, sadness, and social isolation, but also ways to adapt to their new life. Support, information, and continuity in healthcare were important for recovery and better quality of life. Conclusion: Life after stroke brings major changes that affect the body, mind, and social life. The nurse has an important role in giving person-centred support and guidance that strengthen participation, independence, and well-being.
